The paper presents a method of analysis and design of urban landscapes called PlaceMaker. The method is intended as a key resource for assessing the identity of places and measures for its enhancement, reconstruction and design. By using different tools for analysis and interpretation of places and questionnaires administered to their users, PlaceMaker finds the identity material that the city has available and how to de-compose and re-compose it for its sustainable project transformation. Pedestrian-intensive areas, in particular urban, cultural and historical poles of attraction, increasingly bear the imprint of globalization, conveying messages which have developed in an uncontrolled manner and are aimed at conveying their users' patterns of thought and action. The presence of a dense mixture of contrasting elements and perceptions can detract from the image of a city. As regards, the paper is completed with a synopsis of the experiment carried out in an historic axe in London - Oxford Street - where globalization is in danger of levelling out the beauty of the area in favour of widespread genericity

Artículos en revistas Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMI) represent one of the first steps in the Smart Grid process, where Power Line Communication (PLC) is emerging as the most costeffective solution since it allows reusing electric infrastructures as communication channel. However, the performance of this technology is highly affected by the characteristics of the existing distribution network. This article presents a thorough sensitivity analysis to assess the operating limits of smart metering applications for multiple representative configurations of low voltage (LV) networks based on a PLC simulation framework that integrates DLMS/COSEM and PRIME standards. The number of registered nodes and the time to read all meters have been defined as Key Performance Indicators to assess the communication performance. The conclusions drawn from this study provide useful information for the integration of smart meter applications that take advantage of AMI under different local conditions. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

To this end, quarterly frequency data from 1990Q1 to 2017Q4. Structural break point unit root test like Zivot and Andrews is employed and complemented with traditional non-stationarity tests such as Augmented Dickey Fuller and Phillips and Perron unit tests to investigate the interest variables stationarity characteristics. Recently developed Bayer and Hanck (2013) combined cointegration test is used alongside the Pesaran et al. (2001) bounds testing cointegration to test for long-run relationship among the variables. Finally, we test for causal relationships through Modified Wald test of Tada-Yamamoto (1995) Granger causality tests is employed. Empirical findings show cointegration relationship between the variables while accounting for structural break. Further piece of empirical results suggest that natural gas consumption exerts a significant positive impact on economic output in Iran, and also that there is a one-way causality from natural gas consumption to economic output. Thus, our study corroborates the natural gas-led growth hypothesis; being natural gas consumption a suitable alternative, as a complementary green energy source (IGU, 2015). One important conclusion reached in our study is that there is need for energy portfolio diversification in Iran in order to attain full gains from the energy sector, reducing other energies' emissions. Further insights are elucidated in the main text. Our findings provide policymakers useful insight into the state of the energy sector in Iran.

In this experimental study, the combustion chamber of the stove is augmented by two devices. An electric fan can increase the air-to-fuel ratio in order to increase the system’s efficiency and decrease air pollution by providing complete combustion of wood. In addition, thermoelectric generators (TEGs) produce power that can be used to satisfy all basic needs. In this study, a water-based cooling system is designed to increase the efficiency of the TEGs and also produce hot water for residential use. Through a range of tests, an average of 7.9 W was achieved by a commercial TEG with substrate area of 56 mm × 56 mm, which can produce 14.7 W output power at the maximum matched load. The total power generated by the stove is 166 W. Also, in this study a reasonable ratio of fuel to time is described for residential use. The presented prototype is designed to fulfill the basic needs of domestic electricity, hot water, and essential heat for warming the room and cooking.

L.;The main performance characteristics of the turbine, descriptions of the electrohydraulic control and protection system (EHCPS), the heat flow diagram, arrangement decisions, and motivation for selecting them, are given. The steam turbine presented by the Ural Turbine Works (UTW) is intended for replacing the VPT-25 turbine the service life of which has already expired at the Novokuybyshevsk CHP plant. The mixed-pressure turbine will operate in combination of the double-circuit heat recovery boiler (HRB) in a parallel scheme. High-pressure (HP) steam will be supplied from the main steam header to which high-pressure steam from the power boilers and the HRB will be fed, while low-pressure (LP) steam will be supplied directly from the HRB. For the turbine, nozzle steam distribution and the two-row control stage are adopted. The turbine has a process steam extraction line with its stop and control valve and heating steam extraction line leading to the main steam collector.

Aristov; Belal Dawoud; O.S. Popel; D. M. Chalaev;Thermochemical systems for energy conversion are just at the interface between chemical and thermal engineering because the final aim is a transformation of energy, while the specific tool is a thermally driven chemical reaction. Designing the efficient systems calls for appropriate choice of chemical process, comprehensive analysis of its thermodynamics and kinetics, intensification of heat and mass transfer, intelligent integration of components into overall heat device, etc. This paper reviews the joint activity of the six institutes from the four countries on applying chemical reactions in modern devices for production of cold, which are driven by solar heat.
