    In this paper MHD rotating double diffusive and chemically reactive fluid flow past a vertical porous plate with thermal radiation and heat absorption/generation is studied. The non-dimensional governing equations involved in the present analysis are solved by using finite difference technique. The effects of various physical parameters on velocity, temperature and concentration along with skin friction, the rate of heat transfer in the form of Nusselt number and the rate of mass transfer in the form of Sherwood number are studied through the graphs and tables.

    Nowadays, a huge amount of ambiguous e-learning materials are available in World Wide Web irrespective of various objectives. These digital educational resources can be reused and shared from centralized online repository and it will avoid the redundant learning material. The main goal is to design consistent adaptable e-learning course material for web-based education system with emphasis on the quality of learning. This can be done by organizing learning object in a prescribed manner and it can be reused in feature. Such reusable learning objects are enhanced further to become adaptive reusable learning objects that are virtually cognitive and responsive towards the specific needs of the user/customer. This paper proposes the cognitive architecture to offer an adaptive reusable objects (RLO) based on individual profile of e-learner besides their cognitive behaviour while learning.

    Increasing population growth requires more sustainable development of energy. This non-contaminated energy has an inexhaustible energy source. One of the vital parameters in such structures is the choice of foundation type. Suction caissons are now used extensively worldwide for offshore wind turbine. Considering the presence of a number of offshore wind farms in earthquake areas, the study of the seismic behavior of suction caisson is necessary for better design. In this paper, the results obtained from three suction caisson models with different diameter (D) and skirt length (L) in saturated sand were compared with centrifuge test results. All models are analyzed using 3D finite element (FE) method taking account of elasto-plastic Mohr–Coulomb constitutive model for soil which is available in the ABAQUS library. The earthquake load applied to the base of models with a maximum acceleration of 0.65g. The results showed that numerical method is in relative good agreement with centrifuge results. The settlement and rotation of foundation decrease by increasing the skirt length and foundation diameter. The sand soil outside the caisson is prone to liquefaction due to its low confinement.

    A systematic study focused on the aqueous-phase reforming of glycerol has been carried out in order to analyze the influence of several operating variables (system pressure, reaction temperature, glycerol content in feed, liquid feeding rate and catalyst weight/glycerol flow rate ratio) on the gas and liquid products. A continuous flow bench scale installation and a Ni/Al coprecipitated catalyst were employed. The system pressure was varied from 28 to 40 absolute bar, the reaction temperature was analyzed from 495 to 510 K, the glycerol content in the feed was studied from 2 to 10 wt%, the liquid feeding rate was changed from 0.5 to 3.0 mL/min and the catalyst weight/glycerol flow rate ratio varied from 10 to 40 g catalyst min/g glycerol. The main gas products obtained were H2, CO2 and CH4, while the main liquid products were 1, 2-propanediol, ethylene glycol, acetol and ethanol. A W/mglycerol ratio of 40 g catalyst min/g glycerol, 34 bar, 500 K, 5 wt% glycerol and 1 mL/min, resulted in a high yield to H2 (6.8%), the highest yield to alkanes (10.7%), the highest 1, 2-propanediol yield (0.20 g/g glycerol) and the highest ethylene glycol yield (0.11 g/g glycerol). The highest acetol yield (0.06 g/g glycerol) was obtained at 34 bar, 500 K, 5 wt% glycerol, 20 g catalyst min/g glycerol and 3 mL/min.

    Performing accurate numerical simulations of molten salt reactors is challenging, especially in case of fast-spectrum designs, due to the unique physics phenomena characterizing these systems. The limitations of codes traditionally used in the nuclear community often require the development of novel high-fidelity multi-physics tools to advance the design of these innovative reactors. In this work, we present the most recent code developed at Delft University of Technology for multi-physics simulations of liquid-fueled fast reactors. The coupling is realized between an incompressible RANS model and an SN neutron transport solver. The models are implemented in two in-house codes, based on the discontinuous Galerkin Finite Element discretization, which guarantees high-quality of the solution. We report and discuss the results of preliminary simulations of the Molten Salt Fast Reactor at steady-state and during a Total Loss of Power transient. Results prove our code has capabilities for steady-state and transient analysis of non-moderated liquid-fueled reactors.

    Some aquatic ecosystems in rivers depend on the river water, so it needs to be maintained by measuring and analyzing the river water quality. STORET is one of the methods used to measure the river water quality, but it takes a quite high of time and costs. Fuzzy Tsukamoto is an alternative method that works by grouping the river water data, but it is difficult to determine the membership function value. The solution offered in this study is the use of genetic algorithm to determine the membership function value of each criterion. Based on the test results, the optimization of fuzzy membership function using genetic algorithm provides higher accuracy value that is 95%, while the accuracy value without optimization process is 90%. The parameters used in genetic algorithm are as follows: population size is 80, generation number is 175, crossover rate (<em>cr</em>) is 0.6, and mutation rate (<em>mr</em>) is 0.4.

    Electric Vehicles have several potential advantages over traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. They promise zero emission and efficiency. State of charge of a battery is considered as one of the important parameters of Lead acid battery. Study has been done and identified that temperature is a main factor that affects the state of charge of the battery and some measures are to be taken to improve its performance. Unscented kalman filter plays a vital role in estimating the real state of charge of a lead acid battery. Testing of lead acid battery has been done in real-time. Unscented kalman filter code is implemented in MATLAB environment and the state of charge has been estimated for the degrading battery.

    Cloud infrastructure Resources hosted in Data Centers, support the effective execution of Cloud computing applications. Given the increased adoption of the Cloud Computing Applications and the Businesses getting to be Data-driven, there is a huge increase in the number of Data Centers and the Size and amount of resources hosted in these Data Centers. These Data Center resources consume a significant amount of energy and this continuous scaling of the resources is leading to increased power consumption and a large carbon footprint. Given our fragile eco-system, optimization of the Data Center resources for energy conservation and thus the carbon footprint is the primary area of our focus. Businesses also need to satisfy QoS guarantees on Availability to their customers. Optimization towards Energy efficiencies may compromise on the Availability and thus may warrant a trade-off, and a need for them to be considered together. Although there have been numerous studies towards Energy efficiencies, most of them have been focused on only energy. In this paper, we initially segregate Optimization activities towards the Data Center resources like Compute, Network, and Storage. We then study the different control parameters or approaches which will lead to meeting the objectives of Energy Efficiencies, Availability and Energy Efficiency constrained with Availability. Thus, this will support the selection of approaches for the optimization of energy while meeting the QoS Availability requirement.

    Human activities and city routines follow patterns. Transfer learning can help achieve scalable solutions towards the realisation of smart cities accounting for similarities between regions, domains, and activities. In this study, we propose a Transfer Learning-based framework for smart buildings to test this hypothesis in energy-related problems. Our framework has two major components: the network creation and the transferable predictive model. In order to create the network that groups buildings sharing characteristics, we evaluated two strategies: a novel clustering algorithm for mixed data, k-prod, and clustering the image-based representation of time series. Then, a combination of Long Short Term Memory and Convolutional Neural Network was trained on the centroids of the clusters for energy consumption prediction. The Coefficient of Variation of the Root Mean Squared Error (CVRMSE) of the predictions in such clusters varies between 3.85 and 58.85 %. The obtained parameters were transferred to the rest of the buildings for predictive purposes, finding accurate results in buildings with little data. Our framework deals with insufficient training data since parameters from scenarios with more sensors can be received. It also carries out state-of-the-art performance on 3 datasets from different sources having in total 533 rooms/buildings and two energy efficiency domains: consumption prediction reducing the CVRMSE by 21.6 %, and air conditioning usage prediction moving from 4.18 % to 0.28% CVRMSE. Our framework extracts more knowledge from available IoT deployments, so that smartness could be spread between environments at a fewer cost given that less individual effort will be needed.
