    Tämän työn tarkoituksena on tarkastella tulevaisuuden kehitysnäkymien vaikutusta Vaasan kaukolämpötoimintaan. Komartekin Flowra 32 verkostolaskentaohjelman avulla tutkitaan kaukolämpöverkon siirtokykyä nykyisissä ja tulevaisuuden kuormitustilanteissa. Työn yhteydessä laaditaan kaukolämmityksen kasvuennuste seuraavalle kymmenelle vuodelle ja selvitetään mitoituslämpötilaa -29°C vastaava teho tilastollisen analyysin avulla. Lisäksi tutkitaan mahdollisia ratkaisuja huippu- ja varatehon tuottamiseksi. Tarkastelun kohteena on myös lämmön lyhytaikaisvarastoinnin kannattavuus energianhankintajärjestelmässä. Kaukolämpöverkon siirtokyky on tarkastelun perusteella kohtalaisen hyvä, mutta liittymistehojen kasvaessa paine-erot verkon häntäpäässä jäävät liian alhaisiksi. Paras ratkaisu paine-ero ongelmaan on rakentaa välipumppaamo Hovioikeudenpuistoon. Tarkastelun perusteella kaukolämmön varatehon lisätarve on kymmenen vuoden kuluttua noin 40 MW ja varatehoksi on kannattavinta rakentaa raskasta polttoöljyä käyttävä lämpökeskus. Lämmön lyhytaikaisvarastointi on nykyisillä energianhinnoilla kohtalaisen kannattavaa varsinkin, jos Kauppa- ja teollisuusministeriö myöntää hankkeelle täyden 30%:n investointiavustuksen. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the effects of future prospects on district heating in the town of Vaasa. Using Komartek`s Flowra 32 network computation software application, the transfer capacity of the district heating network is studied in current and future load situations. A growth forecast for the next ten years is prepared in connection with this thesis and the power that corresponds to a dimensioning temperature of -29°C obtained using statistical analysis. In addition, possible solutions for generating peak and back-up power are examined. The economic viability of the short-term heat storage in the energy purchasing system is also focus of the study. On the basis of the analysis, the transfer capacity of the district heat network is rather good, although as the connection power increases, pressure differences at the end of the network remain too low. The best solution for the pressure difference problem is to construct a booster pumping station in Hovioikeudenpuisto. The analysis showed that after ten years, the need for back-up district heating energy will be 40 MW and the most economically viable way of providing back-up energy will be to build a heating centre that runs on heavy fuel oil. At current energy prices, the short-term heat storage is economically viable, especially if the Ministry of Trade and Industry grants the project 30% of its value in the form of investment support.

    Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin väestön suhtautumista energiapoliittisiin kysymyksiin. Aineisto on osa laajaa 1983 aloitettua tutkimussarjaa. Vastaajien erilaisia energia-asioita koskevia käsityksiä, kannanottoja, mielipiteitä, uskomuksia, arvostuksia, asenteita ja tietoja kartoitettiin esittämällä useita energian tuotantoon liittyviä väitteitä. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin myös mihin suuntaan Suomen sähköntuotantoa tulisi kehittää. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa selvitettiin henkilökohtaisen energiansäästön motiiveita ja esteitä sekä tarkasteltiin eri tiedonlähteiden luotetavuutta energiansäästöasioissa. Lopuksi kysyttiin, mitä mieltä vastaajat ovat eduskunnan kielteisestä viidennen ydinvoimalan rakentamispäätöksestä. Taustamuuttujina ovat mm. sukupuoli, ikä, asuinpaikkakunnan koko, lääni, ammatti, koulutus ja poliittinen suuntautuneisuus. The survey charted Finnish attitudes towards energy policy issues. The data are part of an extensive survey series launched in 1983. The respondents' conceptions, opinions, beliefs, assessments, attitudes, and knowledge about various energy issues were studied by presenting several statements about energy production and energy conservation. The respondents were also asked in what direction electric power production should be developed in Finland. Some questions charted what motivates or hinders citizens' individual energy saving, and probed the respondents' views on how reliable they thought certain bodies (e.g. electric power companies, nature conservation organizations) were as an information source of household energy saving issues. The respondents were also asked what they thought about the parliament's decision not to approve the construction of a fifth nuclear power plant. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, size of the municipality of residence, region, occupation, education, and which political party R would vote for if the parliamentary elections were held at that time.     Tässä diplomityössä tutkittiin ilmastonmuutoksen vaikutusta sähköverkkoliiketoimintaan. Ilmastonmuutosennusteet laadittiin RCAOilmastomallin antamien laskelmien perusteella. Ilmastomuuttujien ennusteet tehtiin ajanjaksolle 2016 - 2045 ja ennusteiden vertailujaksona käytettiin ajanjaksoa 1960 - 1990. Ennusteet laadittiin sadannalle, lämpötilalle, kuuraantumiselle, huurteelle, ukkoselle, routaantumiselle ja tuulisuudelle. Ilmastomuuttujien vaikutukset arvioitiin sekä tekniseltä että taloudelliselta kannalta. Ilmastonmuutoksen myötä on odotettavissa, että ilmastomuuttujien aiheuttamat rasitukset verkkoliiketoimintaa kohtaan tulevat olemaan niistä saatuja hyötyjä suuremmat. Vikamäärien kasvu on merkittävin ja haastavin ilmastonmuutoksen aiheuttama haitta. Ukkonen, lumikuormat ja tuuli tulevat aiheuttamaan nykyistä enemmän vikoja erityisesti keskijänniteverkoissa avojohdoille ellei verkkoja kehitetä vikavarmemmiksi. Lämpötilan nousun seurauksena lämmitystarve laskee ja jäähdytystarve nousee. Tämä näkyy merkittävimmin voimakkaasti lämpötilariippuvaisten käyttäjäryhmien sähkönkulutuksessa ja huippukuormissa. In this paper the effect of climate change on electricity network business is presented. The results are based on RCAO climate model scenarios. The climate predictions were composed to the period 2016 - 2045. The period 1960 - 1990 was used as a control period. The climate predictions were composed for precipitation, temperature, hoarfrost, thunder, ground frost and wind. The effects of the change of the climate variables on electricity network business were estimated from technical and economical points of view. The estimationwas based on the change predictions of the climate variables. It is expected that the climate change will cause more damages than benefits on electrical network business. The increase of the number of network fault will be the most important and demanding disadvantage caused by the climate change. If networks are not developed more resistant for faults, thunder, heavy snow and wind will cause more damages especially to overhead lines in medium voltage network. As a consequence of increasing temperature the demand of heating energy will decrease and the demand of cooling energy will increase. This is significant for the electricity consumption and the peak load of temperaturedependent electricity users.

    Kuparin ja kupariseosten hitsaus eroaa merkittävästi esimerkiksi terästen hitsauksesta. Suuri lämmönjohtavuus, lämpölaajeneminen, pehmeneminen ja kuparin taipumus liuottaa kaasuja sulaan asettavat hitsaukselle haasteita. Kuparia on perinteisesti hitsattu kaasuhitsaamalla ja kaasukaarihitsausprosesseilla, mutta uudemmat menetelmät kuten laserhitsaus, elektronisuihkuhitsaus ja FSW-hitsaus tarjoavat uudenlaisia käyttökohteita korkealla laadulla. ISO 3834-2 asettaa noudatettavat vaatimukset hitsaustoiminnalle laatuvaatimusten ollessa kattavia. Ydinvoimalaitoksella hitsauksessa tulee lisäksi noudattaa Säteilyturvakeskuksen YVL-ohjeita, joissa on määritetty lisävaatimuksia liitosten materiaalivalinnoille, pätevöittämiselle ja tarkastamiselle. Tässä työssä tutkittiin kuparimetallien hitsauksen mahdollisuutta Loviisan ydinvoimalaitoksella juottamisen sijasta siten, että kattavat laatuvaatimukset täyttyisivät. Hitsauskokeissa ja laboratoriotutkimuksissa testattiin hitsausta erilaisilla hitsausaineilla ja hitsausprosesseilla. Koetulosten pohjalta toteutettiin hitsausmenetelmä deoksidoidun kupariputken ja tinapronssilaipan TIG-hitsaukselle. Welding of copper and copper alloys is significantly different from, for example, welding of steel. High thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, softening and copper's tendency to dissolve gases in the molten weld set challenges for welding. Copper has traditionally been welded using gas welding and gas shielded arc welding processes but newer methods, such as laser welding, electron beam welding and FSW welding, offer a new range of applications with high quality. ISO 3834-2 sets requirements to be complied during welding operations when quality requirements are comprehensive. In nuclear power plants, welding must also comply with the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority's YVL guides which set additional requirements for material choices, qualification and testing. In this thesis, the possibility of welding of copper and copper alloys with comprehensive quality requirements instead of brazing in Loviisa Nuclear Power Plant is examined. In welding experiments and laboratory studies, welding with different welding materials and welding processes were tested. On the basis of the test results, a welding procedure was carried out for TIG welding of deoxidized copper pipe and tin bronze flange.

    Tässä diplomityössä on tarkasteltu Oulun Energian kaukolämpötoiminnan kehitystä lähitulevaisuudessa. Työn yhteydessä selvitettiin nykyisessä tilanteessa mitoituslämpötilaa -32 oC vastaava tehotilastollisen analyysin avulla ja laadittiin kasvuennuste kaukolämmityksen tehontarpeesta seuraavalle viidelletoista vuodelle. Kasvuennusteen perusteella on tehty tarkastelu kaukolämmön varatehon riittävyydestä. Verkoston tehonsiirtokykyä nykyisissä ja tulevaisuuden kuormitustilanteissa on tarkasteltu Process VisioninGrades Heating -verkostolaskentaohjelmiston avulla. Tarkastelun perusteella kaukolämpöverkoston siirtokyky on kohtalaisen hyvä. Verkoston ongelmakohtia ovat länsi-itäsuunnassa olevat siirtolinjat. Varatehon määrä tulee laskemaan lähivuosina alle suositeltavan määrän, mikäli uutta lämmöntuotantokapasiteettia ei rakenneta. Alkuvaiheessa paras ratkaisu tilanteen korjaamiseksi olisi uusien lämpökeskusten rakentaminen sekä kaupungin etelä- että itä-osiin. 2010-luvulla tarve uuden voimalaitoksen rakentamiselle kaukolämpötehon tarpeen kattamiseksi tulee kasvamaan. This thesis studies the development of Oulun Energia's district heating network and the production of district heating in the near future. The demand of the district heating power in dimensioning temperature of -32 oC was obtained using statistical analysis. Furthermore, a growth forecast of the district heating power demand for the next fifteen years was prepared. Part of the thesis was to examine the adequacy ofthe reserve heating power capacity in the near future. This was done on the basis of the growth forecast of the district heating power. The transfer capacity of the district heating network was studied in current and future load situationsusing Process Vision's Grades Heating network computation software application. Based on the analysis, the transfer capacity of the districtheating network is rather good. The problematic transfer pipelines are the onesthat run from west to east. The amount of reserve district heating power will drop under the common recommendation, if new capacity is not going to be built. At the beginning the best solution is to build new heating centres to the south and the east regions of the city. On the next decade the demand for a new power plant to satisfy the need of district heating power will grow.

    Diplomityö on tehty UPM-Kymmene Oyj, Kaukaan tehtailla Lappeenrannassa. Integroidussa metsäteollisuudessa energiantuotanto koostuu yleensä sähkön- ja lämmöntuotannosta. Kaukaan tehtailla prosessien lämmöntarve saadaan katettua kokonaisuudessaan omalla tuotannolla, kun taas kulutetusta sähköstä ainoastaan puolet on tuotettu itse. Loput sähköntarpeesta joudutaan ostamaan ulkopuolelta. Tutkimuksen pääpaino on ollut selvittää, miten kustannukset ovat riippuvaisia energiantuotannosta erilaisissa käyttöolosuhteissa. Työn tuloksena on luotu tietokonepohjainen laskentamalli, jonka avulla Kaukaan tehtaiden energiantuotantoa voidaan ohjata taloudellisesti optimaalisimmalla tavalla kulloinkin vallitsevassa käyttötilanteessa. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa on analysoitu tehdasintegraatin lämmönkulutuksen seurannan mahdollisuuksia lämmönsiirtoverkon nykyisten mittausten perusteella. Työssä on kerrottu yleisesti metsäteollisuuden energiankulutuksesta Suomessa. Lisäksi on esitetty arvioita energiankulutuksen kehityksestä tulevaisuudessa sekä keinoja energiatehokkuuden parantamiseksi. Kaukaan tehtailla lämmönkulutuksen seurantaan käytettävät mittausmenetelmät ja -laitteet on esitelty virtausmittausten osalta sekä arvioitu nykyisten mittausten luotettavuutta ja riittävyyttä kokonaisvaltaisen lämpötaseen hallintaan. Kaukaan tehtaiden energiantuotantojärjestelmästä on luotu termodynaaminen malli, johon energiantuotannosta aiheutuneiden kustannusten laskenta perustuu. Energiantuotannon optimoinnilla pyritään määrittelemään tietyn tarkasteluhetken käyttötilanteessa taloudellisesti optimaalisin kattiloiden ajojärjestys. Tarkastelu on rajattu lämmöntuotannon lisäämisen osalta maakaasun käytön lisäämiseen ja höyryturbiinien ohitukseen. Sähkön ja maakaasun hinnan sekä ympäristön lämpötilan vaihtelujen vaikutusta optimaaliseen ajojärjestykseen on havainnollistettu esimerkkien avulla. This thesis has been made for UPM-Kymmene Plc, Kaukas in Lappeenranta. Energy production in integrated forest industry usually consists of heat and power. In Kaukas, the demand for heat is fully covered by their own production, whereas only half of the power consumed is self-generated. The other half is purchased from outside. The emphasis in the study has been on establishing the dependency between the energy production and costs in different operating conditions. As a result, a computer-based calculation model has been developed. The calculation model guides the planning of the energy production in Kaukas in the most cost-effective way. Also the possibility of monitoring the total heat consumption by using the existing instrumentation has been evaluated in the study. In the thesis, the present energy consumption of the Finnish forest industry has been intro-duced. Estimations for the future of the energy consumption and some possibilities of energy conservation have been presented as well. The methods and equipment of flow meas-urements, which are used for measuring the heat consumption in Kaukas, have been introduced. The reliability and adequacy of the existing instrumentation for indicating and controlling the total heat balance have been analyzed. A thermodynamic model of the Kaukas energy production system has been created. The cost calculations and optimization of the energy production are based on the thermodynamic model of the system. The objective of optimization is to determine the most cost-effective way of running the boilers in the operating conditions of a given moment. In optimization, increasing the use of natural gas and reducing the power generation have been outlined as the methods for increasing the heat production. At the end, the effects of varying the price of natural gas and electric power as well as the ambient temperature have been demonstrated.

    Kansalaispulssi selvittää suomalaisten korona-ajan mielipiteitä viranomaisten toiminnasta sekä vastaajan mielialasta ja huolenaiheista. Aineisto sisältää kysymyksiä myös Venäjän hyökkäyksestä Ukrainaan ja energian säästämisestä. Tämän kierroksen kyselyssä kartoitettiin vastaajien luottamusta eri instituutioihin ja toisiin ihmisiin. Vastaajan elämäntilanteesta, elämän merkityksellisyydestä ja yhteenkuuluvuudesta esitettiin väittämiä. Edelleen kysyttiin vastaajan mielialasta, luottamuksesta tulevaisuuteen sekä koetusta stressistä ja turvallisuudesta. Vastaajia pyydettiin myös arvioimaan suomalaisten kriisimielialaa tällä hetkellä. Venäjän hyökkäykseen Ukrainaan liittyen kysyttiin, huolestuttavatko kriisin vaikutukset Suomen talouteen sekä Suomen ja Euroopan turvallisuuteen tai sodan mahdollinen laajeneminen. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin näkemyksiä talouspakotteiden hyväksyttävyydestä sekä kulutustottumusten muutoksista. Energiansäästösta tiedusteltiin, onko vastaaja tehnyt energiansäästötoimia, kuten lyhentänyt suihkuaikaa, alentanut lämpötiloja tai vähentänyt sähkölaitteiden käyttöä, viimeksi kuluneen kuukauden aikana. Lopuksi kysyttiin koronaepidemiasta. Kartoitettiin, kuinka paljon sen vaikutukset aiheuttavat huolta nyt. Kysyttiin myös suojautumisen tarpeellisuudesta ja kuinka hyvin vastaaja on noudattanut koronaviruksen leviämistä ehkäiseviä suosituksia. The Citizens' Pulse surveys examine Finnish attitudes and opinions in the context of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Main themes in the surveys include the activity and communication of authorities, compliance with regulations, future expectations, trust, and the respondents' own state of mind. This collection round also included questions on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and energy conservation. The ninth collection round of 2022 surveyed the respondents' trust in other people and various institutions (e.g. the Finnish Government, the health care system, the media, and the Finnish Defence Forces). The respondents' state of mind was examined with questions on various matters relating to health, well-being, and their situation in life. The questions covered, for example, the respondents' own mental well-being, whether they were worried about the adequacy of their income, their confidence in their future, experiences of stress and togetherness, and whether they felt their lives were meaningful and safe. Additionally, the respondents were asked to evaluate whether an atmosphere of crisis prevailed amongst Finns. The next set of questions focused on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The respondents were asked how concerned they were about the crisis in Ukraine and its effects, whether they were concerned about the possible impact of the war on the Finnish economy and the safety of Finland and Europe, and whether they were concerned that the war might expand beyond Ukraine. Opinions on the economic sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU, whether Finland should be ready to receive significant numbers of refugees from Ukraine if necessary, and whether the uncertainty caused by the Ukraine crisis had impacted the respondents' consumer behaviour were charted. On the topic of energy conservation, the respondents were asked how concerned they were about the changes in energy prices, whether they felt they had enough information about ways to conserve energy in their everyday lives, whether they believed that by taking energy-saving measures they could make a difference in the availability of energy during the coming months, and whether they had taken certain measures to lower their energy consumption during the past month (e.g. lowered the room temperature at home, driven less, reduced the use of electronic appliances at home, taken shorter showers). Views on the proposed government support measures (e.g. reducing VAT on electricity from 24% to 10%, financial support for low-income households) to support households to cope with high electricity bills were also investigated. Concern over the coronavirus pandemic and its effects were surveyed. Compliance with coronavirus restrictions was examined by asking the respondents whether in the past week they had followed the restrictions and recommendations set by authorities for preventing transmission of the virus, including maintaining safe distances, wearing a face mask, and minimising contact with other people. The respondents were also asked how necessary they felt it was to follow measures such as wearing a mask and maintaining safe distances after receiving two or three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age group, NUTS3 region of residence, highest level of education, household composition, perceived financial situation of household, type of accommodation, and type of domestic heating system.     Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin väestön suhtautumista energiapoliittisiin kysymyksiin. Aineisto on osa laajaa 1983 aloitettua tutkimussarjaa. Vastaajien erilaisia energia-asioita koskevia käsityksiä, kannanottoja, mielipiteitä, uskomuksia, arvostuksia, asenteita ja tietoja kartoitettiin esittämällä useita energian tuotantoon liittyviä väitteitä. Vastaajilta kysyttiin myös mihin suuntaan Suomen sähköntuotantoa tulisi kehittää ja miten tärkeinä hän pitää erilaisia energian tuotantoon liittyviä tekijöitä kuten hintaa, saasteettomuutta, saatavuutta, kotimaisuutta, turvallisuutta ja tuotantovarmuutta. Taustamuuttujina ovat mm. sukupuoli, ikä, asuinpaikkakunnan koko, lääni, ammatti, koulutus ja poliittinen suuntautuneisuus. The survey studied Finnish public opinion on energy policy issues. The data are part of an extensive survey series launched in 1983. The respondents' conceptions of various energy issues, their evaluations, opinions, beliefs, assessments, attitudes and knowledge about them were studied by presenting several statements about energy production. The respondents were also asked in what direction should energy production be developed in Finland and how important they thought the various factors connected with energy production to be (e.g. price, low pollution, availability, degree of domestic added value, safety and secureness of production). The respondents were also asked the extent to which they were worried about various things (e.g. spread of AIDS, threat of war, nuclear disasters, having a traffic accident). Finally, the respondents were asked to select advantages and disadvantages of different sources of energy. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, size of municipality of residence, province of residence, occupation, education, and political orientation.     Pyrolyysiöljy on biomassasta nopealla hapettomalla lämpökäsittelyprosessilla saatavaa nestemäistä polttoainetta. Kasvavien uusiutuvan energian käyttötavoitteiden myötä pyrolyysiöljystä on tullut kiinnostava vaihtoehto fossiilisille polttoöljyille. Suurimmat käytön haasteet ovat alhainen lämpöarvo, korkeat kiintoainepitoisuudet ja happamuus fossiilisiin polttoöljyihin verrattuna sekä eri raaka-aineista syntyvät ominaisuuksiltaan erilaiset pyrolyysiöljyt. Pyrolyysiöljyn kaupallinen tuotanto on vasta käynnistymässä eikä sen laadulle ole olemassa standardeja, joten eri valmistajien tuotteet voivat poiketa toisistaan huomattavastikin. Suomessa on Valtion teknillisen tutkimuskeskuksen (VTT) toimesta kehitetty Integrated Thermal Process (ITP)-konsepti, jossa pyrolyysiöljyn tuotantoprosessi on liitetty kiertoleijukattilaprosessiin. Prosessien yhdistämisellä voidaan parantaa kokonaishyötysuhdetta sekä hyödyntää laitosten yhteistä käyttöä ja polttoaineen hankintaa. Pyrolyysiprosessin tarvitsema lämpöenergia otetaan petihiekan välityksellä kattilasta, jossa poltetaan myös prosessissa syntyvät oheistuotteet. Tässä diplomityössä tutkittiin pyrolyysiprosessin vaikutusta voimalaitoksen toimintaan ja luotiin malli voimalaitoksen energiataseessa tapahtuvien muutosten arviointiin. Malli laskee sekä pyrolysaattorin että raaka-aineen käsittelyn vaikutukset voimalaitoksen sähkön- ja lämmöntuotantoon. Lisäksi mallin avulla voidaan arvioida pyrolysaattorin aiheuttama raaka-aineen tarve sekä voimalaitoksen lisäpolttoaineen tarve. Työssä tarkasteltiin myös pyrolyysiöljyn ominaisuuksia ja käyttökohteita, sekä tarvittavia muutoksia olemassa olevaan voimalaitokseen. Lisäksi arvioitiin tuotannon kannattavuutta. Mallia sovellettiin esimerkkivoimalaitokseen, jossa on harkittu pyrolyysiöljyn tuotannon aloittamista. Laskelmien perusteella pyrolyysiöljyn tuotannolla on sähkön- ja lämmöntuotantoa alentava sekä polttoaineen tarvetta korottava vaikutus. Pyrolyysiprosessin lisääminen nostaa voimalaitoksen kokonaishyötysuhdetta. Suotuisissa olosuhteissa öljytuotanto ITP-konseptilla näyttäisi olevan taloudellisesti kannattavaa. Pyrolysis oil is a liquid fuel oil produced by rapid thermal processing of biomass in the absence of oxygen. As the usage targets for renewable energy are increasing, pyrolysis oil has become an interesting option for fossil fuel oils. The greatest challenges in the use of pyrolysis oil are a lower heating value, higher solid content and greater acidity compared to fossil fuel oils. Also the variety of pyrolysis oil properties, which are dependent on feed-stock, is a significant challenge. The commercial production of pyrolysis oil is only start-ing. As a result, there are no standards for its quality, leading to considerable variation in pyrolysis oils of different producers. In Finland, the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) has developed an Integrated Thermal Process (ITP), in which the pyrolysis oil pro-duction process is integrated with a circulating fluidised bed boiler. As a result of the inte-gration, higher overall efficiency can be achieved. Also the fuel supply and operation of the processes can be combined. The heat for the pyrolysis process is transferred from the boiler via fluidised bed sand. By-products of the pyrolysis process can be used in the boiler for heat production. In this thesis, the effect of the pyrolysis process on power and heat production was examined, and a model was prepared for the estimation of changes in the energy balance. The model calculates the effects of both pyrolyzer and feedstock treatment on the production of electricity and heat. The model allows estimating the feedstock de-mand of the pyrolyzer and the demand for additional fuel for the boiler. The properties of pyrolysis oil and applications for using it were also researched, as well as the profitability of the production of pyrolysis oil. The model was applied to an example power plant in which the production of pyrolysis oil was studied. The results of the calculations indicate that pyrolysis oil production has a decreasing effect on the production of electricity and heat. In contrast, the fuel demand and the overall efficiency increase. In favourable condi-tions, pyrolysis oil production with the ITP concept seems to be financially viable.

    Tämän työn tarkoituksena on tarkastella tulevaisuuden kehitysnäkymien vaikutusta Vaasan kaukolämpötoimintaan. Komartekin Flowra 32 verkostolaskentaohjelman avulla tutkitaan kaukolämpöverkon siirtokykyä nykyisissä ja tulevaisuuden kuormitustilanteissa. Työn yhteydessä laaditaan kaukolämmityksen kasvuennuste seuraavalle kymmenelle vuodelle ja selvitetään mitoituslämpötilaa -29°C vastaava teho tilastollisen analyysin avulla. Lisäksi tutkitaan mahdollisia ratkaisuja huippu- ja varatehon tuottamiseksi. Tarkastelun kohteena on myös lämmön lyhytaikaisvarastoinnin kannattavuus energianhankintajärjestelmässä. Kaukolämpöverkon siirtokyky on tarkastelun perusteella kohtalaisen hyvä, mutta liittymistehojen kasvaessa paine-erot verkon häntäpäässä jäävät liian alhaisiksi. Paras ratkaisu paine-ero ongelmaan on rakentaa välipumppaamo Hovioikeudenpuistoon. Tarkastelun perusteella kaukolämmön varatehon lisätarve on kymmenen vuoden kuluttua noin 40 MW ja varatehoksi on kannattavinta rakentaa raskasta polttoöljyä käyttävä lämpökeskus. Lämmön lyhytaikaisvarastointi on nykyisillä energianhinnoilla kohtalaisen kannattavaa varsinkin, jos Kauppa- ja teollisuusministeriö myöntää hankkeelle täyden 30%:n investointiavustuksen. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the effects of future prospects on district heating in the town of Vaasa. Using Komartek`s Flowra 32 network computation software application, the transfer capacity of the district heating network is studied in current and future load situations. A growth forecast for the next ten years is prepared in connection with this thesis and the power that corresponds to a dimensioning temperature of -29°C obtained using statistical analysis. In addition, possible solutions for generating peak and back-up power are examined. The economic viability of the short-term heat storage in the energy purchasing system is also focus of the study. On the basis of the analysis, the transfer capacity of the district heat network is rather good, although as the connection power increases, pressure differences at the end of the network remain too low. The best solution for the pressure difference problem is to construct a booster pumping station in Hovioikeudenpuisto. The analysis showed that after ten years, the need for back-up district heating energy will be 40 MW and the most economically viable way of providing back-up energy will be to build a heating centre that runs on heavy fuel oil. At current energy prices, the short-term heat storage is economically viable, especially if the Ministry of Trade and Industry grants the project 30% of its value in the form of investment support.

    Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin väestön suhtautumista energiapoliittisiin kysymyksiin. Aineisto on osa laajaa 1983 aloitettua tutkimussarjaa. Vastaajien erilaisia energia-asioita koskevia käsityksiä, kannanottoja, mielipiteitä, uskomuksia, arvostuksia, asenteita ja tietoja kartoitettiin esittämällä useita energian tuotantoon liittyviä väitteitä. Vastaajilta tiedusteltiin myös mihin suuntaan Suomen sähköntuotantoa tulisi kehittää. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa selvitettiin henkilökohtaisen energiansäästön motiiveita ja esteitä sekä tarkasteltiin eri tiedonlähteiden luotetavuutta energiansäästöasioissa. Lopuksi kysyttiin, mitä mieltä vastaajat ovat eduskunnan kielteisestä viidennen ydinvoimalan rakentamispäätöksestä. Taustamuuttujina ovat mm. sukupuoli, ikä, asuinpaikkakunnan koko, lääni, ammatti, koulutus ja poliittinen suuntautuneisuus. The survey charted Finnish attitudes towards energy policy issues. The data are part of an extensive survey series launched in 1983. The respondents' conceptions, opinions, beliefs, assessments, attitudes, and knowledge about various energy issues were studied by presenting several statements about energy production and energy conservation. The respondents were also asked in what direction electric power production should be developed in Finland. Some questions charted what motivates or hinders citizens' individual energy saving, and probed the respondents' views on how reliable they thought certain bodies (e.g. electric power companies, nature conservation organizations) were as an information source of household energy saving issues. The respondents were also asked what they thought about the parliament's decision not to approve the construction of a fifth nuclear power plant. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, size of the municipality of residence, region, occupation, education, and which political party R would vote for if the parliamentary elections were held at that time.     Tässä diplomityössä tutkittiin ilmastonmuutoksen vaikutusta sähköverkkoliiketoimintaan. Ilmastonmuutosennusteet laadittiin RCAOilmastomallin antamien laskelmien perusteella. Ilmastomuuttujien ennusteet tehtiin ajanjaksolle 2016 - 2045 ja ennusteiden vertailujaksona käytettiin ajanjaksoa 1960 - 1990. Ennusteet laadittiin sadannalle, lämpötilalle, kuuraantumiselle, huurteelle, ukkoselle, routaantumiselle ja tuulisuudelle. Ilmastomuuttujien vaikutukset arvioitiin sekä tekniseltä että taloudelliselta kannalta. Ilmastonmuutoksen myötä on odotettavissa, että ilmastomuuttujien aiheuttamat rasitukset verkkoliiketoimintaa kohtaan tulevat olemaan niistä saatuja hyötyjä suuremmat. Vikamäärien kasvu on merkittävin ja haastavin ilmastonmuutoksen aiheuttama haitta. Ukkonen, lumikuormat ja tuuli tulevat aiheuttamaan nykyistä enemmän vikoja erityisesti keskijänniteverkoissa avojohdoille ellei verkkoja kehitetä vikavarmemmiksi. Lämpötilan nousun seurauksena lämmitystarve laskee ja jäähdytystarve nousee. Tämä näkyy merkittävimmin voimakkaasti lämpötilariippuvaisten käyttäjäryhmien sähkönkulutuksessa ja huippukuormissa. In this paper the effect of climate change on electricity network business is presented. The results are based on RCAO climate model scenarios. The climate predictions were composed to the period 2016 - 2045. The period 1960 - 1990 was used as a control period. The climate predictions were composed for precipitation, temperature, hoarfrost, thunder, ground frost and wind. The effects of the change of the climate variables on electricity network business were estimated from technical and economical points of view. The estimationwas based on the change predictions of the climate variables. It is expected that the climate change will cause more damages than benefits on electrical network business. The increase of the number of network fault will be the most important and demanding disadvantage caused by the climate change. If networks are not developed more resistant for faults, thunder, heavy snow and wind will cause more damages especially to overhead lines in medium voltage network. As a consequence of increasing temperature the demand of heating energy will decrease and the demand of cooling energy will increase. This is significant for the electricity consumption and the peak load of temperaturedependent electricity users.

    Kuparin ja kupariseosten hitsaus eroaa merkittävästi esimerkiksi terästen hitsauksesta. Suuri lämmönjohtavuus, lämpölaajeneminen, pehmeneminen ja kuparin taipumus liuottaa kaasuja sulaan asettavat hitsaukselle haasteita. Kuparia on perinteisesti hitsattu kaasuhitsaamalla ja kaasukaarihitsausprosesseilla, mutta uudemmat menetelmät kuten laserhitsaus, elektronisuihkuhitsaus ja FSW-hitsaus tarjoavat uudenlaisia käyttökohteita korkealla laadulla. ISO 3834-2 asettaa noudatettavat vaatimukset hitsaustoiminnalle laatuvaatimusten ollessa kattavia. Ydinvoimalaitoksella hitsauksessa tulee lisäksi noudattaa Säteilyturvakeskuksen YVL-ohjeita, joissa on määritetty lisävaatimuksia liitosten materiaalivalinnoille, pätevöittämiselle ja tarkastamiselle. Tässä työssä tutkittiin kuparimetallien hitsauksen mahdollisuutta Loviisan ydinvoimalaitoksella juottamisen sijasta siten, että kattavat laatuvaatimukset täyttyisivät. Hitsauskokeissa ja laboratoriotutkimuksissa testattiin hitsausta erilaisilla hitsausaineilla ja hitsausprosesseilla. Koetulosten pohjalta toteutettiin hitsausmenetelmä deoksidoidun kupariputken ja tinapronssilaipan TIG-hitsaukselle. Welding of copper and copper alloys is significantly different from, for example, welding of steel. High thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, softening and copper's tendency to dissolve gases in the molten weld set challenges for welding. Copper has traditionally been welded using gas welding and gas shielded arc welding processes but newer methods, such as laser welding, electron beam welding and FSW welding, offer a new range of applications with high quality. ISO 3834-2 sets requirements to be complied during welding operations when quality requirements are comprehensive. In nuclear power plants, welding must also comply with the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority's YVL guides which set additional requirements for material choices, qualification and testing. In this thesis, the possibility of welding of copper and copper alloys with comprehensive quality requirements instead of brazing in Loviisa Nuclear Power Plant is examined. In welding experiments and laboratory studies, welding with different welding materials and welding processes were tested. On the basis of the test results, a welding procedure was carried out for TIG welding of deoxidized copper pipe and tin bronze flange.

    Tässä diplomityössä on tarkasteltu Oulun Energian kaukolämpötoiminnan kehitystä lähitulevaisuudessa. Työn yhteydessä selvitettiin nykyisessä tilanteessa mitoituslämpötilaa -32 oC vastaava tehotilastollisen analyysin avulla ja laadittiin kasvuennuste kaukolämmityksen tehontarpeesta seuraavalle viidelletoista vuodelle. Kasvuennusteen perusteella on tehty tarkastelu kaukolämmön varatehon riittävyydestä. Verkoston tehonsiirtokykyä nykyisissä ja tulevaisuuden kuormitustilanteissa on tarkasteltu Process VisioninGrades Heating -verkostolaskentaohjelmiston avulla. Tarkastelun perusteella kaukolämpöverkoston siirtokyky on kohtalaisen hyvä. Verkoston ongelmakohtia ovat länsi-itäsuunnassa olevat siirtolinjat. Varatehon määrä tulee laskemaan lähivuosina alle suositeltavan määrän, mikäli uutta lämmöntuotantokapasiteettia ei rakenneta. Alkuvaiheessa paras ratkaisu tilanteen korjaamiseksi olisi uusien lämpökeskusten rakentaminen sekä kaupungin etelä- että itä-osiin. 2010-luvulla tarve uuden voimalaitoksen rakentamiselle kaukolämpötehon tarpeen kattamiseksi tulee kasvamaan. This thesis studies the development of Oulun Energia's district heating network and the production of district heating in the near future. The demand of the district heating power in dimensioning temperature of -32 oC was obtained using statistical analysis. Furthermore, a growth forecast of the district heating power demand for the next fifteen years was prepared. Part of the thesis was to examine the adequacy ofthe reserve heating power capacity in the near future. This was done on the basis of the growth forecast of the district heating power. The transfer capacity of the district heating network was studied in current and future load situationsusing Process Vision's Grades Heating network computation software application. Based on the analysis, the transfer capacity of the districtheating network is rather good. The problematic transfer pipelines are the onesthat run from west to east. The amount of reserve district heating power will drop under the common recommendation, if new capacity is not going to be built. At the beginning the best solution is to build new heating centres to the south and the east regions of the city. On the next decade the demand for a new power plant to satisfy the need of district heating power will grow.

    Diplomityö on tehty UPM-Kymmene Oyj, Kaukaan tehtailla Lappeenrannassa. Integroidussa metsäteollisuudessa energiantuotanto koostuu yleensä sähkön- ja lämmöntuotannosta. Kaukaan tehtailla prosessien lämmöntarve saadaan katettua kokonaisuudessaan omalla tuotannolla, kun taas kulutetusta sähköstä ainoastaan puolet on tuotettu itse. Loput sähköntarpeesta joudutaan ostamaan ulkopuolelta. Tutkimuksen pääpaino on ollut selvittää, miten kustannukset ovat riippuvaisia energiantuotannosta erilaisissa käyttöolosuhteissa. Työn tuloksena on luotu tietokonepohjainen laskentamalli, jonka avulla Kaukaan tehtaiden energiantuotantoa voidaan ohjata taloudellisesti optimaalisimmalla tavalla kulloinkin vallitsevassa käyttötilanteessa. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa on analysoitu tehdasintegraatin lämmönkulutuksen seurannan mahdollisuuksia lämmönsiirtoverkon nykyisten mittausten perusteella. Työssä on kerrottu yleisesti metsäteollisuuden energiankulutuksesta Suomessa. Lisäksi on esitetty arvioita energiankulutuksen kehityksestä tulevaisuudessa sekä keinoja energiatehokkuuden parantamiseksi. Kaukaan tehtailla lämmönkulutuksen seurantaan käytettävät mittausmenetelmät ja -laitteet on esitelty virtausmittausten osalta sekä arvioitu nykyisten mittausten luotettavuutta ja riittävyyttä kokonaisvaltaisen lämpötaseen hallintaan. Kaukaan tehtaiden energiantuotantojärjestelmästä on luotu termodynaaminen malli, johon energiantuotannosta aiheutuneiden kustannusten laskenta perustuu. Energiantuotannon optimoinnilla pyritään määrittelemään tietyn tarkasteluhetken käyttötilanteessa taloudellisesti optimaalisin kattiloiden ajojärjestys. Tarkastelu on rajattu lämmöntuotannon lisäämisen osalta maakaasun käytön lisäämiseen ja höyryturbiinien ohitukseen. Sähkön ja maakaasun hinnan sekä ympäristön lämpötilan vaihtelujen vaikutusta optimaaliseen ajojärjestykseen on havainnollistettu esimerkkien avulla. This thesis has been made for UPM-Kymmene Plc, Kaukas in Lappeenranta. Energy production in integrated forest industry usually consists of heat and power. In Kaukas, the demand for heat is fully covered by their own production, whereas only half of the power consumed is self-generated. The other half is purchased from outside. The emphasis in the study has been on establishing the dependency between the energy production and costs in different operating conditions. As a result, a computer-based calculation model has been developed. The calculation model guides the planning of the energy production in Kaukas in the most cost-effective way. Also the possibility of monitoring the total heat consumption by using the existing instrumentation has been evaluated in the study. In the thesis, the present energy consumption of the Finnish forest industry has been intro-duced. Estimations for the future of the energy consumption and some possibilities of energy conservation have been presented as well. The methods and equipment of flow meas-urements, which are used for measuring the heat consumption in Kaukas, have been introduced. The reliability and adequacy of the existing instrumentation for indicating and controlling the total heat balance have been analyzed. A thermodynamic model of the Kaukas energy production system has been created. The cost calculations and optimization of the energy production are based on the thermodynamic model of the system. The objective of optimization is to determine the most cost-effective way of running the boilers in the operating conditions of a given moment. In optimization, increasing the use of natural gas and reducing the power generation have been outlined as the methods for increasing the heat production. At the end, the effects of varying the price of natural gas and electric power as well as the ambient temperature have been demonstrated.

    Kansalaispulssi selvittää suomalaisten korona-ajan mielipiteitä viranomaisten toiminnasta sekä vastaajan mielialasta ja huolenaiheista. Aineisto sisältää kysymyksiä myös Venäjän hyökkäyksestä Ukrainaan ja energian säästämisestä. Tämän kierroksen kyselyssä kartoitettiin vastaajien luottamusta eri instituutioihin ja toisiin ihmisiin. Vastaajan elämäntilanteesta, elämän merkityksellisyydestä ja yhteenkuuluvuudesta esitettiin väittämiä. Edelleen kysyttiin vastaajan mielialasta, luottamuksesta tulevaisuuteen sekä koetusta stressistä ja turvallisuudesta. Vastaajia pyydettiin myös arvioimaan suomalaisten kriisimielialaa tällä hetkellä. Venäjän hyökkäykseen Ukrainaan liittyen kysyttiin, huolestuttavatko kriisin vaikutukset Suomen talouteen sekä Suomen ja Euroopan turvallisuuteen tai sodan mahdollinen laajeneminen. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin näkemyksiä talouspakotteiden hyväksyttävyydestä sekä kulutustottumusten muutoksista. Energiansäästösta tiedusteltiin, onko vastaaja tehnyt energiansäästötoimia, kuten lyhentänyt suihkuaikaa, alentanut lämpötiloja tai vähentänyt sähkölaitteiden käyttöä, viimeksi kuluneen kuukauden aikana. Lopuksi kysyttiin koronaepidemiasta. Kartoitettiin, kuinka paljon sen vaikutukset aiheuttavat huolta nyt. Kysyttiin myös suojautumisen tarpeellisuudesta ja kuinka hyvin vastaaja on noudattanut koronaviruksen leviämistä ehkäiseviä suosituksia. Taustamuuttujina olivat vastauskieli, vastaajan sukupuoli, ikäryhmä, maakunta, koulutus sekä tietoja kotitalouden rakenteesta, taloudellisesta tilanteesta, asumismuodosta ja asunnon lämmitysmuodosta. The Citizens' Pulse surveys examine Finnish attitudes and opinions in the context of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Main themes in the surveys include the activity and communication of authorities, compliance with regulations, future expectations, trust, and the respondents' own state of mind. This collection round also included questions on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and energy conservation. The ninth collection round of 2022 surveyed the respondents' trust in other people and various institutions (e.g. the Finnish Government, the health care system, the media, and the Finnish Defence Forces). The respondents' state of mind was examined with questions on various matters relating to health, well-being, and their situation in life. The questions covered, for example, the respondents' own mental well-being, whether they were worried about the adequacy of their income, their confidence in their future, experiences of stress and togetherness, and whether they felt their lives were meaningful and safe. Additionally, the respondents were asked to evaluate whether an atmosphere of crisis prevailed amongst Finns. The next set of questions focused on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The respondents were asked how concerned they were about the crisis in Ukraine and its effects, whether they were concerned about the possible impact of the war on the Finnish economy and the safety of Finland and Europe, and whether they were concerned that the war might expand beyond Ukraine. Opinions on the economic sanctions imposed on Russia by the EU, whether Finland should be ready to receive significant numbers of refugees from Ukraine if necessary, and whether the uncertainty caused by the Ukraine crisis had impacted the respondents' consumer behaviour were charted. On the topic of energy conservation, the respondents were asked how concerned they were about the changes in energy prices, whether they felt they had enough information about ways to conserve energy in their everyday lives, whether they believed that by taking energy-saving measures they could make a difference in the availability of energy during the coming months, and whether they had taken certain measures to lower their energy consumption during the past month (e.g. lowered the room temperature at home, driven less, reduced the use of electronic appliances at home, taken shorter showers). Views on the proposed government support measures (e.g. reducing VAT on electricity from 24% to 10%, financial support for low-income households) to support households to cope with high electricity bills were also investigated. Concern over the coronavirus pandemic and its effects were surveyed. Compliance with coronavirus restrictions was examined by asking the respondents whether in the past week they had followed the restrictions and recommendations set by authorities for preventing transmission of the virus, including maintaining safe distances, wearing a face mask, and minimising contact with other people. The respondents were also asked how necessary they felt it was to follow measures such as wearing a mask and maintaining safe distances after receiving two or three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age group, NUTS3 region of residence, highest level of education, household composition, perceived financial situation of household, type of accommodation, and type of domestic heating system.     Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin väestön suhtautumista energiapoliittisiin kysymyksiin. Aineisto on osa laajaa 1983 aloitettua tutkimussarjaa. Vastaajien erilaisia energia-asioita koskevia käsityksiä, kannanottoja, mielipiteitä, uskomuksia, arvostuksia, asenteita ja tietoja kartoitettiin esittämällä useita energian tuotantoon liittyviä väitteitä. Vastaajilta kysyttiin myös mihin suuntaan Suomen sähköntuotantoa tulisi kehittää ja miten tärkeinä hän pitää erilaisia energian tuotantoon liittyviä tekijöitä kuten hintaa, saasteettomuutta, saatavuutta, kotimaisuutta, turvallisuutta ja tuotantovarmuutta. Taustamuuttujina ovat mm. sukupuoli, ikä, asuinpaikkakunnan koko, lääni, ammatti, koulutus ja poliittinen suuntautuneisuus. The survey studied Finnish public opinion on energy policy issues. The data are part of an extensive survey series launched in 1983. The respondents' conceptions of various energy issues, their evaluations, opinions, beliefs, assessments, attitudes and knowledge about them were studied by presenting several statements about energy production. The respondents were also asked in what direction should energy production be developed in Finland and how important they thought the various factors connected with energy production to be (e.g. price, low pollution, availability, degree of domestic added value, safety and secureness of production). The respondents were also asked the extent to which they were worried about various things (e.g. spread of AIDS, threat of war, nuclear disasters, having a traffic accident). Finally, the respondents were asked to select advantages and disadvantages of different sources of energy. Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, size of municipality of residence, province of residence, occupation, education, and political orientation.     Pyrolyysiöljy on biomassasta nopealla hapettomalla lämpökäsittelyprosessilla saatavaa nestemäistä polttoainetta. Kasvavien uusiutuvan energian käyttötavoitteiden myötä pyrolyysiöljystä on tullut kiinnostava vaihtoehto fossiilisille polttoöljyille. Suurimmat käytön haasteet ovat alhainen lämpöarvo, korkeat kiintoainepitoisuudet ja happamuus fossiilisiin polttoöljyihin verrattuna sekä eri raaka-aineista syntyvät ominaisuuksiltaan erilaiset pyrolyysiöljyt. Pyrolyysiöljyn kaupallinen tuotanto on vasta käynnistymässä eikä sen laadulle ole olemassa standardeja, joten eri valmistajien tuotteet voivat poiketa toisistaan huomattavastikin. Suomessa on Valtion teknillisen tutkimuskeskuksen (VTT) toimesta kehitetty Integrated Thermal Process (ITP)-konsepti, jossa pyrolyysiöljyn tuotantoprosessi on liitetty kiertoleijukattilaprosessiin. Prosessien yhdistämisellä voidaan parantaa kokonaishyötysuhdetta sekä hyödyntää laitosten yhteistä käyttöä ja polttoaineen hankintaa. Pyrolyysiprosessin tarvitsema lämpöenergia otetaan petihiekan välityksellä kattilasta, jossa poltetaan myös prosessissa syntyvät oheistuotteet. Tässä diplomityössä tutkittiin pyrolyysiprosessin vaikutusta voimalaitoksen toimintaan ja luotiin malli voimalaitoksen energiataseessa tapahtuvien muutosten arviointiin. Malli laskee sekä pyrolysaattorin että raaka-aineen käsittelyn vaikutukset voimalaitoksen sähkön- ja lämmöntuotantoon. Lisäksi mallin avulla voidaan arvioida pyrolysaattorin aiheuttama raaka-aineen tarve sekä voimalaitoksen lisäpolttoaineen tarve. Työssä tarkasteltiin myös pyrolyysiöljyn ominaisuuksia ja käyttökohteita, sekä tarvittavia muutoksia olemassa olevaan voimalaitokseen. Lisäksi arvioitiin tuotannon kannattavuutta. Mallia sovellettiin esimerkkivoimalaitokseen, jossa on harkittu pyrolyysiöljyn tuotannon aloittamista. Laskelmien perusteella pyrolyysiöljyn tuotannolla on sähkön- ja lämmöntuotantoa alentava sekä polttoaineen tarvetta korottava vaikutus. Pyrolyysiprosessin lisääminen nostaa voimalaitoksen kokonaishyötysuhdetta. Suotuisissa olosuhteissa öljytuotanto ITP-konseptilla näyttäisi olevan taloudellisesti kannattavaa. Pyrolysis oil is a liquid fuel oil produced by rapid thermal processing of biomass in the absence of oxygen. As the usage targets for renewable energy are increasing, pyrolysis oil has become an interesting option for fossil fuel oils. The greatest challenges in the use of pyrolysis oil are a lower heating value, higher solid content and greater acidity compared to fossil fuel oils. Also the variety of pyrolysis oil properties, which are dependent on feed-stock, is a significant challenge. The commercial production of pyrolysis oil is only start-ing. As a result, there are no standards for its quality, leading to considerable variation in pyrolysis oils of different producers. In Finland, the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) has developed an Integrated Thermal Process (ITP), in which the pyrolysis oil pro-duction process is integrated with a circulating fluidised bed boiler. As a result of the inte-gration, higher overall efficiency can be achieved. Also the fuel supply and operation of the processes can be combined. The heat for the pyrolysis process is transferred from the boiler via fluidised bed sand. By-products of the pyrolysis process can be used in the boiler for heat production. In this thesis, the effect of the pyrolysis process on power and heat production was examined, and a model was prepared for the estimation of changes in the energy balance. The model calculates the effects of both pyrolyzer and feedstock treatment on the production of electricity and heat. The model allows estimating the feedstock de-mand of the pyrolyzer and the demand for additional fuel for the boiler. The properties of pyrolysis oil and applications for using it were also researched, as well as the profitability of the production of pyrolysis oil. The model was applied to an example power plant in which the production of pyrolysis oil was studied. The results of the calculations indicate that pyrolysis oil production has a decreasing effect on the production of electricity and heat. In contrast, the fuel demand and the overall efficiency increase. In favourable condi-tions, pyrolysis oil production with the ITP concept seems to be financially viable.
