The generation of thermoelectric coal to power has aroused different opinions and significances. The objective of this paper is to investigate the social representations that groups and social actors in rural areas share about the matter of exploitation of coal in the municipality of Candiota (RS), Southern Brazil. Some representations that compose the relationship between rural and coal in the county were identified. From a theoretical and methodological point of view, were based on the Theory of Social Representations of Serge Moscovici, and the structural approach of social representations of Jean-Claude Abric. We interviewed 46 people between January and March 2012. The central representation of the coal activity in the case study is located around the idea of “economic growth”, depicting a discourse of the reified universe of some socio-economic sectors and the pressure to make inferences about groups. Most of the interviewed people are favorable to the activity (53%), while 28% are opposed and 19% do not consider themselves neither favorable or contrary, varying their arguments according to social position. In the case studied, the level of dependence on coal exploration is unstable and dynamic.

Partnerships in global health stand in an important position when discussing global health. During the 5th National Congress of Tropical Medicine, some central themes in this area were discussed: research, implementation and funding. This paper aims to reflect upon each theme, highlighting the most relevant aspects for the future and present of global health partnerships. It is based on the various presentations and the ensuing discussion, also relying on a literature review on the referred three central themes. Global health partnerships aim to reverse and overcome the North/South asymmetries at different levels: training, access, knowledge, funding, research, education and science development; contributing towards the construction of a knowledge-based society, aiming at sustainable development and universal health coverage. These partnerships are increasingly understood as critical to attaining all SDGs, but there is also the need to ensure that they do not harm any of the stakeholders. They must be balanced and symmetrical, reflecting the interests of all parties involved, fostering the inclusion of all partners in every stage. Therefore, partnerships in global health may be truly effective, leading to innovative ways of articulation, implementation and funding. publishersversion published

This study analyzes the contribution of Pronaf (National Program for Strengthening of Family Farming) for the sustainable development of family farming in the Ceará state. For this purpose, primary data was obtained through the application of 15 questionnaires to beneficiaries and the equal number to non-beneficiaries in Baturite, Iguatu and Quixada counties, totaling 90 questionnaires. The sustainability index, employment and farm income per cultivated hectare were calculated to measure the impact of the program on the sustainable development, generation of income and employment on family farms of beneficiaries. Based on the descriptive analysis and the application of the t Student test, Chi-Square test and Mann-Whitney U test, comparisons between the selected groups of family farming were promoted. Results showed that the beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries have a low sustainability level. Pronaf had a positive impact, but not significant on farm income generation, and positive effect on the creation of employment.

The environment (leisure place) is among the new activities in the rural area and to come as an alternative activity to solve the socio-economic problems. The factor that more it contributed to reduce total population went to the migration of great part of the rural population for other states and not for the urban area, as it happened with adjacent cities. First of all is questioned: How the new activities in the rural way? What does come to engaging importance in the area? How is this appear by the population? The methodology is been significance of bibliographical sources and empiric data. The elaboration of this study intends a project of division into lots of small farms for leisure place in Sertanópolis-Pr. Methodology used to investigate the social organization is been importance of the human ecology. With the human ecology it is studied different levels of social organization during the research. The research was consummate in Sertanópolis, in October of 2003, through the application of 312 questionnaires, applied to the residents and interviews with the Director of Finance of the Municipal City and the Manager of the Commercial Association. The total collection of the enterprise in rates, for estimate, it is of R$ 765.310,00. In the area, the Sertanópolis possesses only 0,55% of the collection in tax (ICMS), insufficient amount for any incentive in terms of public politics. The interviewees show that, 13,45% were unemployed, 40% receive 2 to 4 minimum wages, 45% live rented home or financed. With the implantation of area for leisure place is possible to creation more 700 workstations, that would occupy additional rural labour.

As part of the Master’s degree in Management at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, this document was prepared to reflect the curricular internship of 4 months held at EDP-Production Management. The theme of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), chosen as the focus of this report, emerged as a central concern to several of the issues addressed during the internship and because it is considered a central theme for the EDP company, since it is part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. The aim of the work is the development of the main themes of CSR, presenting the conceptual evolution, the main theoretical models and the systematization of theories, as well as the European and National approach to CSR, the distinction of the concepts of CSR, Sustainability and Sustainable Development, the advantages of the implementation of CSR and the tools that are used by companies – international standards, sustainability reports, GRI Standards and CSR indexes. Finally, the impact of CSR on local communities is analyzed, using the study of EDP’s Sustainability Report. It can be inferred that CSR practices have a very positive impact on local communities, both in terms of their well-being and in terms of economic development and that the development and investment in Social Responsibility practices also have a positive return on the company. EDP has a high commitment to local communities by developing a set of social investment programs, assuming sustainability in its DNA and contributing actively and voluntarily to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Hospital structures within a historical analysis have always reflected the society where they were inserted, not only in aspects of scientific development with the use of medical knowledge for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, where we can say that it would be the larger objective of this establishment, but Also in issues as debated and studied today, as the availability and use of the territory where they are inserted, thus relating as the value that is given to natural resources, both in the design of spaces as well as in their use and maintenance, attitudes that are linked To a sustainable posture. The objective of this article is to discuss, in a local aspect, the relation of the use of the territory in a microscale vision of the process of growth of an EAS (Health Care Establishment), having as object of study a hospital that was built in the 1950 in a municipality in the metropolitan region of Curitiba that for almost 70 years its growth has not undergone planning, consequently a widespread obsolescence of its built spaces, as well as the availability for its future physical organization. Keywords: Hospital Architecture, Territoriality, Sustainability. XII SIMPÓSIO DE ENGENHARIA BIOMÉDICA - IX SIMPÓSIO DE INSTRUMENTAÇÃO E IMAGENS MÉDICAS

This paper aims to analyze whether Brazilian smallholder farmers who adopt irrigation methods would be more resilient to climate change when compared to smallholders producing rainfed crops. We developed a treatment effects model, based in the Propensity Score Matching technique, which can explain irrigation adoption and net revenues simultaneously. Temperature and precipitation projections for 2010-2099 were used considering different climate scenarios according to the 4th Assessment Report of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Results confirmed the efficiency of irrigation as an adaptive strategy. For all simulation scenarios, land values of irrigators are, on average, approximately twice the value of rainfed smallholders. It can be concluded that there is need of public policies focused on developing strategies to cope with global warming effects in the agricultural sector. Moreover, given the importance of irrigation adoption as an adaptive measure, it is needed to encourage the expansion of credit lines for irrigation investments, especially for less capitalized farmers.

This internship report aims to present an analysis and reflection of teaching and extralegal activities throughout the Supervised Pedagogical Internship, developed in Escola Secundária Dr. ª Maria Cândida, in Mira, during the school year 2020/2021. In addition, I intend to reflect on the application of didactic-pedagogical strategy, in this specific case the Application of Media in Geographic and Environmental Education, the specific case of the newspaper applied to the theme of Climate Change. The report is divided in three parts. The first part, where the general description of the school is made, accompanied by the geographic framing, class, internship nucleus and the activities carried out throughout the internship. The second part is directed towards the theoretical and scientific reflection associated with the theme of didactic application. The theme of the scientific component is Climate Change and its impacts on human health, as well as the emergence or resurgence of parasitic diseases in Europe. In the third part, the didactic strategy is presented, the newspaper made by the students, accompanied by the results obtained from the survey carried out to the teachers of the grouping and to the students about it. In this chapter there is also a reflection on distance learning and the impacts on learning for both teachers and students. The objectives proposed for this strategy were positive, since I obtained the desired feedback from the students, as well as all the dedication in the construction of the newspaper.
