It addresses a very ambitious goal of enabling AI members of human-AI teams to anticipate when and what kind of assistance their human teammates need and to respond on that. DIALOG will develop an AI-based digital assistant called Teamwork Assistant that uses speech recognition and understanding of pilot-controller exchanges to infer ATCOs' intent and goals. It also utilizes machine learning-based methods to assess ATCOs' workload and attention in real-time based on voice, physiology, and behavioral data. The actions of the digital assistant are determined based on the ATCOs' current state, attention allocation, traffic situation, and general context. The project will develop prototypes and conduct validation exercises in close collaboration with end-users to assess the performance and usability of the proposed solutions.

A virtual center is a single ATSU or a grouping of joint Air Traffic Service Units (ATSU) using data services provided by an ATM Data Service Provider (ADSP). This concept encompasses geographical decoupling between ADSP(s) and some ATSU(s) through standardised service interfaces defined in Service Level Agreements. The project will progress in the virtual center concept by developing the “triangle architecture”, a powerful type of architecture based on disaggregating services currently offered by a main ADSP into new specific functionality-oriented ADSPs. The project will focus on developing the following new ADSPs: AMAN (Arrival Management), TBS (Time Based Separation) and CD&R (Conflict Detection and Resolution). • Develop cyber-resilience tools focused in virtual center environment to monitor attacks and display alerts if detected. As the World is becoming more digitalized, cyber-attacks against all countries and all types of organizations are constantly increasing. It is becoming more and more important to have cyber-resilience tools to minimize and stop the impact of this kind of attacks in the ATM environment, as it is a safety-critical service. The project will focus on the following topics: applying digital trust in virtual center communications, developing mediation modules to protect ADSP and starting the development of a cybersecurity supervision console.

It aims at sharing CNS data between ANSP and providing to other stakeholders (Civil & Military Airspace Users, Industry, Airport Authorities, Regulators & ATM Organizations, Aircraft Manufacturers). The project aims at implementing a demonstrator based on several ANSPs data and for the usage of third parties application/service developers (supporting ADSP concept). The CNS Data Service Provision project (hereinafter referred as “CNS DSP”) aims to support the transition to the new service delivery model for ATM data through the development of a new SESAR solution, the “Shared CNS Data Services Platform”. This solution will deliver the CNS Data Services required by ATC & Airspace users, in full consistency with the ADSP concept. It will also offer a bunch of added value services for various Aviation and UTM stakeholders, enabling the valorisation of ANSPs CNS data for the entire Aviation community.

To this aim, SOLO encompasses one single Operational solution that will produce a TRL 4 ATM Concept of Single Pilot Operations. This will initiated based on previous works initiated by Airbus and ATR with the support of French partners (DSNA, EUROCONTROL, ENAC) and, as well, be based on the technological bricks developed during those previous R&T activities. In support to Airbus and ATR, the maturation and validation of this concept will be done with the formal cooperation of DFS, ENAIRE/CRIDA, EUROCONTROL, DSNA, NATS and INDRA. Indeed, one major constraint for the TRL 4 concept will be to reduce to the minimum necessary the impacts on ATC tools and procedures. Airline functions and tools will need to be enhanced to prepare and execute Single Pilot Operations, in addition to the major evolutions needed at the cockpit side (not the purpose of SOLO). Several airlines had -on an anonymous way- supported Airbus and ATR for several years. It is planned that a similar way of working will be done during the execution of the project. In the end, the TRL 4 Concept of Operations (instantiated by a comprehensive SPR/INTEROP/OSED) will feed further, more specific R&T activities and as well provide solid basis to various standardization and regulatory bodies such as ICAO, EASA, FAA, CAAC.
