"Bauhaus-Universität Weimar supported through this project the cooperation with universities outside the EU. At thecore of each country applied for is a strategically important partnership. In Ethiopia the cooperatipn with the EiABC(Ethiopian Institute for Architecture, Building Construction and City Development) enjoys the status of a strategicpartnership since the founding of the joint research institute ""Emerging City Lab - Addis Ababa). This partnership wasfunded through the previous project already and continued to be developed through the current one. Newly added werepartner institutions in Russia (MGSU) and the USA (UCSD), both of which have been supported and developed throughthe DAAD project Strategic Partnerships between 2013 and 2016.The USA has been a country-specific focus for Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since a long time with student exchangebeing especially lively. Besides the UCSD, there are important partnerships in the field of art and design: The School ofthe Art Institute, Chicago, Pratt Institute New York and Emmanuel College in Boston. The goal of the project was to stabilize and further develop each of the included partnerships. To this end, numerousSMS, STA and STT mobilities were executed in accordance with the application and grant. In the foreground of theactivities were ST mobilities, because they have a particular potential for and impact on strengthening the partnershipand to open up new areas of collaboration. For student exchange, the focus was on incoming mobilities, becauseBauhaus-Universität Weimar's students are generally eager to go abroad (this is due to years of systematicinternationalisation, e.g. through obligatory semesters abroad) and our efforts are more directed toward maintaining thebalance between outgoing and incoming student numbers and to financially enable students from low-income countriesto spent a semester in Weimar.Ehtiopia:The partnership with the EiABC experiences a serious blow during the time reported on here. Prof. Dr.-Ing. DirkDonath, Professor at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and resident at EiABC as a chairholder with support by the DAADwent missing during a private trip. In this situation, the Erasmus+ funds of this project proved especially valuable toensure the mobilities could take place necessary to keep the partnership on track, substitute for Prof. Donath in certainrespects an in general rearrange the cooperation to be carried on through a new arrangement of responsibilities.USA:The partnership with UCSD is in the process of being developed on many fronts in order to realise its full potential. Here most of the mobilities took palce. This trend continues in following projects which speaks to the success of theendeavors. The partnerships with the SAIC and the PI both face the challenges of a generational change with respect to thesupervising professors in charge. There is regular student exchange, which is a solid basis to build on. Hence for bothof theses institutions ST mobilities were applied for and executed. The activities were further supported by a delegationvisit (not funded through Erasmus+) to both institutions which included the president of Bauhaus-Universität WeimarProf. Speitkamp. Minister Tiefensee (TMWWDG) and the Turingian Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow. In the case of Emmanuell College there is keen interest on the part of the partner, the challenge here is to reestablishan insitutional link to Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, which had somewhat gone lost due to the main person of contactleaving our university. This was largely successful and was continued in following projects. The cooperation will noexperience another push in the area of student exchange through a (already granted) ISAP-Application (DAAD).Canada:The partnership with Concordia University and Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is a long-standing one and is now going tobe expanded strategically. To provide a solid basis for this undertaking, both ST mobilities were used to sound out thepotentials at both institutions and to renew contacts, and SMS mobilities to emphasis this aspect of the collaborationwhich is important for both partners.Russia:The momentum generated by the 50 anniversary of our cooperation with MGSU energised the colaborative activities in 2018, which were diverse and intense."
