Tampere University has about 200 partner universities in almost 30 countries around Europe. During the programme period Tampere University sent out altogether 283 students and staff members abroad within the Erasmus+ programme. Of these mobilities, 200 were student mobility periods for studies, 28 student mobility periods for traineeships, 22 staff mobility periods for teaching and 33 staff mobility periods for training. The qualitative objective of the project was to implement the values of the Erasmus Charter to all mobilities. The results of the EU survey show that these objectives were achieved. 97,76% of students and 100% of staff were satisfied with their mobility experience in general.University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology merged in the middle of the project period on January 1st 2019. A merger of this magnitude affected also some administrative processes and might be one reason behind the slightly lower turnout of mobilities. The administration of study affairs changed in the beginning of 2019 but services and contact persons for both outgoing and incoming exchange students stayed mainly the same. International Mobility Services at Tampere University are in charge of the administration of mobilities. Within the services there is a mobility coordinator in charge of inter-institutional agreements and student mobility for each faculty or degree programme since the faculties possess the best academic knowledge in their specific fields. The university offers a welcome week for all incoming exchange students each semester. A tutoring programme allocates a peer student tutor to each incoming exchange student. To facilitate the integration of incoming students, we offer Finnish language courses in beginners’ level free of charge. For outgoing students International Mobility Services organize a pre-departure orientation day focusing on risk prevention, safety issues, intercultural communication and language studies, as well as planning studies abroad. Students have also the possibility to take part in country specific groups where more detailed questions could be answered. OLS language test licenses are allocated to all outgoing students whose studying or working language is one of the languages available. At Tampere University this applies to almost all Erasmus students. Also, the Language Centre at Tampere University offers language courses in different languages for all students and in the Self-Access Centre there is self-study material for 28 languages. Many of our students study abroad in other language than English. The goal is that all credits completed during the exchange period are included in student's degree. This goal is reached but full recognition is challenging: credits gained during the exchange might end up as additional credits instead of obligatory part of the degree. However the goal is to make credits gained during exchange period an integral part of the degree.Tampere University’s objective is to increase the international mobility of teachers as well as the mobility of students in all cycles and all types, including exchange studies and traineeship. As for all staff mobility, it aims at deepening international knowhow, resulting in exchangeable course content planning, implementation and projects as well as improved pedagogical and intercultural skills. The Erasmus+ programme plays a significant part in achieving the above-mentioned goals.
