Understandings and practices of social and solidarity economy emerged as a product of this new approach. Social Economy Action Plan published by the European Commission in December 2021, describes social and solidarity economy actors as; “a variety of businesses, organizations, and legal entities which put people and the environment at the center of their mission and reinvest most of their profit back into the organization or a specific social cause”. In doing so, these organizations adopt intersectional and inclusive principles of voluntary cooperation, democratic and participatory governance, independent economic activity, and ways of preventing or restricting the distribution of profits. These agents can be cooperatives, associations, communities, foundations, and social enterprises. Today, when we look at the EU, 2.8 million companies in the social and solidarity economy employ 13.6 million people and manufacture %8 of the EU's GDP (Social Economy Europe, 2023). Hence, one of the most important actors of the social and solidarity economy that is expanding day by day is social enterprises (SEs). This mobility consortium aims to enable students of HEIs in the consortium to experience social entrepreneurship practices in the program countries via traineeships and transfer this know-how to Türkiye’s social entrepreneurship ecosystem. As a side benefit, the collaboration of the consortium HEIs in Türkiye, an organic network will be established between these HEIs actively working on social entrepreneurship at the national scale, further contributing to Türkiye’s social entrepreneurship ecosystem, which is still developing and has a substantial potential.Traineeships in social enterprises are important opportunities for the next generation of young professionals interested in social entrepreneurship as they acquire the necessary skills through hands-on experience. Traineeships could offer participants the opportunity to work on member-led projects, attend workshops and events, and gain practical knowledge in the field of social entrepreneurship. Trainees can benefit from one or more of the following opportunities:1- Placement with a host organization: Trainees will be encouraged to be placed with a host organization that is a SE, working in the field of social entrepreneurship, such as NGOs, social incubation centers, governmental agencies, etc. 2- Hands-on projects: Trainees will have the opportunity to work on real projects related to various subjects as SEs are active in almost every sector such as sustainable urban solutions, digital technologies, health care services, gender mainstreaming, education, etc.3- Mentorship and guidance: Trainees will receive mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals in the field to help them develop the necessary skills and knowledge.4- Training and workshops: Trainees will have the opportunity to attend training sessions and workshops focused on social entrepreneurship, such as those related to design thinking, social impact measurement, and social good-oriented project management.5- Community engagement: Trainees will be encouraged to engage with the local community and stakeholders to gather feedback, build relationships, and ensure that their work is aligned with community needs and priorities.6- Reflection and evaluation: Trainees will have opportunities for reflection and evaluation to help them reflect on their experiences, identify areas for improvement, and assess their own personal and professional growth. The results and impact of the mobility consortium are envisaged to be substantial as it will provide a platform for collaboration and learning between HEIs in the consortium and European social entrepreneurship ecosystem, with a focus on developing the capacity of young professionals who intend to gain a vision to determine their career with an understanding of the balance between economic income and social good, inclusion and diversity. With the mobility project to be carried out by the consortium, trainees will also have the opportunity to experience different cultures, leading them to a greater intercultural understanding aligned with the values that SEs adopted such as inclusion, diversity, good governance, fair trade, etc. The consortium may facilitate partnerships and collaborations among member institutions and other stakeholders, leading to a more comprehensive and effective approach to social entrepreneurship in academia.
