The objective is the transfer and adaptation of methodologies and practical approaches developed in SafeCREW to a less developed eastern European country. This objective will be accomplished by leveraging NUWEE's expertise in water research and access to drinking water distribution network infrastructure to adapt and implement the SafeCREW methodologies for the benefit of western Ukraine via 1) monitoring water quality in riverbank filtration (RBF) used for drinking water production; 2) using monitoring results for risk-based planning of future interventions; 3) implementing risk-based management through the creation of Water Safety Plans; 5) adapting hydraulic models and establishing soft sensors for conditions with limited data availability; 6) identifying regulatory and real-life gaps in Ukrainian and European drinking water quality guideline values; and 7) providing a roadmap for the establishment of a Centre for Excellence in Water Management at NUWEE. The activities proposed will be primarily carried out by NUWEE, in collaboration with other SafeCREW partners. This partnership with NUWEE serves as a valuable replication test case for transfer of EU water sector knowledge to less developed states, and is particularly timely for improving the safety and sustainability of drinking water for Ukraine, a candidate for EU accession. NUWEE’s inclusion will not only extend the reach of the EU DWD into Ukraine but also introduce the EU's science-based policy-making approaches to the Ukrainian water sector. By doing so, it will showcase NUWEE as a formidable research partner in eastern Europe and provide NUWEE with the tools to participate in further European research and innovation projects.

The project consisted in the reception by the Lublin City Hall of 2 groups of young Ukrainians for short-term group volunteering, who were involved in support of implementation of large annual municipal events. Each group consisted in total of 24 persons from eastern and western Ukraine. Most of them were students and people employed in local government institutions of Ukrainian cities cooperating with Lublin. In recruitment, preference was given to people who had never been to Poland or the EU before, and those from smaller towns. The basic criterion for the selection of participants was the motivation and willingness of candidates to go abroad and acquire knowledge and competences, as well as their expectations and the possibility of their fulfilment by hosting organisation. The objectives of the project were as follows:1. To get support for organisation of big city events taking place each year in Lublin 2. To provide young people from Ukraine with know-how and basic experience of organisation of large scale events, project management and to activate them 3. To deepen the understanding and improve the relations between people from neighbouring countries: Poland and Ukraine and to make citizens of both states more open towards people from other countries, cultures and a general diversity. The first group was volunteering from July 19 to August 21, 2018. Their work consisted of supporting the organisation and service of Carnaval Sztukmistrzów and the Jagiellonian Fair. The second group worked in Lublin September 13-29, 2018 by the organisation and service of the Congress of Culture of Lubelskie Voivodeship and the Eastern Europe Initiatives Congress. Each group held also a two-day practical and theoretical training in project management conducted by practitioners having many years of experience in preparation, implementation and reporting of international projects.Voluntary activities of both groups were divided into 3 categories:- activities being introduction to work - getting acquainted with work of Lublin City Hall and other local government units such as municipal cultural institutions and other organisations, whose activities were related to the nature of the project- cultural element - familiarization with cultural heritage of the city, searching for and identifying elements linking Poland and Ukraine, discussion of mutual stereotypes and potential ways of dealing with them, Polish language course- voluntary work - implementation of specific tasks related to preparation and service of urban events: preparation of information and promotional materials of events in Ukrainian, Russian and English, promotion of events in social media, auditing the city's space and institutions through the prism of tourists friendliness, creating reports for sponsors on their visibility at municipal events, logistical support in form of small physical works, picking up foreign guests from railway stations and airports, providing information in information points, reception of guests or preparing materials and identifiers for participants. Results and impact of the project:- participants gained knowledge and experience in organising large-scale events, which will allow to organise such events in their local communities and increase their chances on the labour market, they gained knowledge about project management, which will allow them to use funds available to Ukraine more effectively, they mastered basics of Polish language, deepened their personal development through living and working abroad, staying in an intercultural environment, using foreign languages and getting to know another country and people from different cultures- partner organisations have strengthened their partnership and gained first experiences in international volunteering under Erasmus+. The host institution received support in organisation of major urban events and their dissemination in Ukraine, which may cause a greater inflow of tourists to Lublin for subsequent editions of festivals. The result for the sending organisation was the increase of knowledge and activity of University students and gaining among them potential collaborators, employees or volunteers with skills and knowledge in the field of large-scale events organisation and project management- intercultural exchange between Ukrainian volunteers and Polish host society resulting in the overthrow of stereotypes and the increase of mutual understanding and interest, as well as in reinforcement of international relations. The project had such a positive impact on both organisations that they decided to apply again for co-financing its continuation. INTERCULTURE was therefore not a one-off event.

Because of the personal fears of young people and families, economic problems, and lack of information and pollution, initiatives on this issue are below the world standards. Our young people participating in many national activities are required to carry them to international dimensions. In this context, the project was associated with the nature camp organized by the Provincial Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, which is intensively involved in national participation, at the Aladağ Camping Training Center. Throughout the camp; sports, cultural, social and touristic activities. In the summer camps, 500 new camps come to our city every week. Camps Sports activities (orienteering, cycling, paintball, mountaineering, canoeing and other sporting activities planned instant), cultural activities (organizing and promoting activities of local and national culture), social activities (Personal training seminars, History and Literature ... etc seminars) ) and tourist activities (nature trips, city center, historical and touristic area visits). Through the project, 5 volunteers came to our province and were assigned to camps with their fellow citizens. They were encouraged to take part in activities that would increase their personal capacities and to show young people what an international experience was like and to eliminate the problems that occurred in their minds for participation abroad through training, activities or projects. In addition, the promotion of the European Voluntary Service (EVS) projects will be carried out both in camps and in universities, city centers, schools ... As Provincial Directorate, efforts were made to increase participation in European Voluntary Service activities. In this way, the interest of the newly accepted projects is increased. Throughout the project, the volunteers participated in the sportive, cultural, social and touristic activities themselves, and the participation of the youth camps with the direct beneficiaries of the camps, increasing the participation of the campers and increasing the participation of the camps. methods. In the short term, the camps will get rid of the mediocrity, improve the interest of the participants, increase the interest of the volunteers especially in the nature sports, increase the participation in the international projects in our city in the long term, bring an international dimension to the youth camps and benefit from the intercultural interactions of the young campers from our city and other cities better. and volunteer knowledge and skills gained in the camps in the choice of profession or at least as a lifestyle.
