SafeHabitus will make farming a safer occupation. Farming is amongst the most dangerous jobs in Europe. European statistics show that the fatality rate in farming is 233% higher than other industries and the accident rate is 18% higher. These figures underestimate the scale of the problem as a significant proportion of farm workplace fatalities, injuries and ill health go unreported, un-investigated, and prevention approaches are not learned. Improving farmers’ and farm workers’ health and safety requires action by a range of stakeholders to empower and support them to change unsafe practices and adopt new, safer and healthier ways of working. SafeHabitus is a multi-actor project that has come together to strengthen Farm Health and Safety Knowledge Innovation Systems (FHS KIS) and support the EU transition to social sustainability in farming. Our premise is that driving health and safety on farms is not about dissemination but changing habitual practices. To achieve this, SafeHabitus applies a range of novel methods; digital story telling methods with people who experienced accidents; application of the multi-actor approach to co-design farm work risk management tools; foresight analysis; analyses of consumer willingness to pay for food production that protects health and safety; bench-marking policies and elite interviews with policy makers. Our consortia include end-users, stakeholders and researchers in case study Member States. These work together in ten national COPs covering a representative variety of countries and sectors. SafeHabitus also engages with European bodies and stakeholders who provide critical bridges between EU and national / regional actors and who can influence EU policy such as the Geopa (Copa-Cogeca), CEJA, EFFAT, Oxfam, SVLFG, and AEIDL. This multi-level and transnational approach will allow SafeHabitus advance safer practices on farms across the EU.

Comillas Pontifical University is known throughout the world for the excellence and relevance of its programs, having opted for the internationalization of its studies, as well as for its close relations with the Business world. The University has been a pioneer in the implementation of international programs, participating since 1985 in the process of international university cooperation. It was one of the founding universities of the European Association for International Education (EAIE) and has been actively participating in Erasmus Programs since the beginning of these program in 1987. Currently, it has approximately 600 signed and active international Agreements, including bilateral agreements and Erasmus+ Collaborations. The University has participated in the KA107 Project since the 2017 Call for Applications. Whereas the ICAI School of Engineering participated in the first round of the project, other Schools and Faculties have joined the School in participating in recent years. The objective of the project is to attract students from Brazil and to facilitate the partipation of our students in the different Exchange programs in each direction, for both Universities, on the Undergraduate as well as the Postgraduate level, and for students to acquire an intercultural learning experience. It is also intended to promote international internships, so that students are enriched both in professional life and culturally. Another objective is to have professors carry out periods of stay in international mobility in order to teach as instructors coming from and going to Brazil. Also, Administration and Services Personnel, through short periods of stay, are able to acquire new ideas and knowledge at the host university, which they could later put into practice at their home university. For this Call for Applications (2018), Brazil was chosen as a partner country and the university signed an Inter-Institutional Agreement with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro). This University is a federal institution with some 60,000 students. UFRJ is the fourth university in the ranking of the best universities in Latin America, according to the Webometric Classification of the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research. Comillas has been collaborating with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro on student exchange matters since 2003.Within the Erasmus+ KA107 Project, the following period of mobility was carried out during the 2019-2020 academic year: Incoming: 1 Master's Degree student; duration: 5 months. The rest of the 5 periods of mobility had to be cancelled due to the current situation with the pandemic in Brazil. The incoming student attended classes in Engineering Programs offered in English. More specifically, she took subjects from the Official Master's Degree in the Electric Power Industry, successfully completing the courses and obtaining the required number of credits to obtain her degree. In addition to completing her thesis, the student had the opportunity to learn Spanish through the Spanish Language Course for International Students, as well as to attend various cultural programs offered by the university. In addition to the greater visibility that Erasmus+ offers to its beneficiaries, it is important to mention the promotion of Madrid, and Spain, as a desirable destination for exchange programs.

OpenMod4Africa aims to develop an open Toolbox populated with state-of-the-art models for analysing long-term pathways to sustainable, secure and competitive energy systems in Africa. The Toolbox will build on EU projects like Open ENTRANCE, Plan4RES and FocusAfrica, and will adapt and further develop open models in accordance with the African context and needs. The models are scalable, and can be applied to cities, industries and countries. Furthermore, a main objective for OpenMod4Africa is capacity building among energy models in academia. Five African universities will be actively involved in adapting models and conducting three regional case studies. The additional capacity and the open Toolbox will enable the universities to train new generations of energy modelling experts for the energy industries in Africa. Three decision-makers will also be engaged, together with a network of energy industries and universities in 25 African countries. These players will be invited to use the Toolbox, and to be involved in training activities. They will also be invited to a permanent network of expertise, which will be developed for further capacity building and collaboration beyond the project. Three case studies will develop energy pathways for rural areas, cities, countries and large regions of countries in Western and Eastern Africa and in Tunisia. The replication strategies will pave the way for further analyses beyond the project. Finally, OpenMod4Africa aims to collaborate with other ongoing initiatives to maximize the impacts of the project and create synergies. The consortium consists of 16 partners and 2 associated partners. Nine partners are African. Important long-term impacts from the three-year project include enabling academia and decision-makers in Africa to conduct their own analyses for the optimal development of their energy system, supplying energy to a much larger share of the population, and establishing a system based upon the abundant share of renewables on the continent.

The present context shows the potential of electricity grids to lead the energy system transition as long as new solutions deal with the challenges related to flexibility solutions, grid observability and controllability, market mechanisms and interoperability in a holistic way. The new solutions need to cover the technological aspects by linking smart and integrated services and tools for distribution grid with market mechanisms. This architecture will guarantee a significant impact on the environment and society. The project consortium accepted this challenge and will develop “EUniversal Project” which will enable the transformation of the electricity grid by resolving existing limitations in the energy system through the introduction of a Universal Market Enabling Interface (UMEI). Through this concept, grids will become capable of accommodating all future scenarios through the active use of grid services, acting as an extensive toolbox of flexibility solutions and innovate market mechanisms. The primary goal of EUniversal is to enable the transformation of the energy system into a new multi-energy and multi-consumer concept guaranteeing a sustainable, secure and stable manner of electricity supply by bringing forward an universal, adaptable and modular approach through a Universal Market Enabling Interface (UMEI) to interlink active system management with electricity markets and the provision of flexibility services, taking also into consideration the activation needs and the coordination requirements with both commercial parties and TSOs. To do so, EUniversal will define, develop and validate a set of market-oriented flexibility management services from DER in a real environment, under a large RES integration and high electrification scenario. In order to demonstrate the services generated in the development phase of the project, 3 different DEMO sites (located in Portugal (PT), Germany (DE) and Poland (PL)) will be run to validate the project solutions
