The project involves 3 successfully completed sub-projects. KYRGYZSTANAmerican University of Central Asia (AUCA)Based on previous cooperation between Centre for Peace Studies and AUCA from 2012 onwards, this project included staff exchanges facilitating competence building within peace and conflict studies and geo-politics as well as regional issues in Eurasia and Europe’s Arctic North. Teacher exchange included 3 staff from AUCA teaching in regular courses for MPCT-students (Master program in peace and conflict transformation) as well as in giving guest seminars open for all UiT staff and students, spring semester 2017 and 2018. The teachers further contributed to open seminars discussing small states and geo-politics in the post-Soviet era, and enhanced their knowledge about international as well as regional issues in the Arctic through library studies and seminar participation. The teachers also offered supervision to Kyrgyz students in Tromsoe, and to Norwegian students working with Eurasia/Asia issues.CANADAUniversity of Saskatchewan (USask)This project takes its point of departure in the cooperation between University of Saskatchewan (USask) and UiT linked to establishing the joint Master’s degree in Governance and Entrepreneurship in Northern and Indigenous Areas (GENI). The programme was launched in 2015 as the first joint degree between the two countries and provides an arena where students share in learning about governance, consultation, development and entrepreneurship in Northern and Indigenous communities. The objectives of the Erasmus+ project were twofold; creating mobility opportunities for students to visit the partner institution for a semester as part of their degree. Also, to strengthen staff mobility, administrative and academic, for joint work on the daily programme management and enhance insight into the partner institution. (strategies, focus areas, student and Research administration etc.)The staff mobility included 6 people, 4 academic for teaching and 2 administrative for training/job shadowing.2 students have been given the opportunity to study one or two semesters at the partner institution.ETHIOPIADilla university (DU):The cooperation between Dilla University (DU) and UiT goes back more than ten years and has its basis in the fact that graduates from the Master in Indigenous Studies (MIS) at UiT went back to Dilla and established the Institute of Indigenous Studies at their home university. The common aim has been to internationalize academics via collaboration and exchange with institutions engaged in indigenous issues. DU has as part of its strategic plan to become top in East Africa in teaching and research in indigenous studies through collaboration with UiT and other universities abroad. The mobility project included incoming and outgoing staff mobility and incoming student mobility. 2 teachers from DU visited UiT and were involved in teaching and supervision of MIS-students on issues regarding indigeneity in an African context. 2 teachers from UiT contributed with lectures and seminars at DU on theories and methodology in indigenous studies. 3 students from DU have as part of the project had an exchange semester at UIT.
