Flightpath 2050 very ambitiously targets 75% CO2 and 90% NOx emissions reductions, relative to year 2000. It is highly unlikely that these targets will be met with carbon containing fuels, despite large research efforts on advanced, and in many cases disruptive, airframe and propulsion technologies, even when coupled with improved asset and life cycle management procedures. Liquid hydrogen (LH2) has long been seen as a technically feasible fuel for a fully sustainable aviation future yet its use is still subject to widespread scepticism. ENABLEH2 will mature critical technologies for LH2 based propulsion to achieve zero mission-level CO2 and ultra-low NOx emissions, with long term safety and sustainability. ENABLEH2 will tackle key challenges i.e. safety, infrastructure development, economic sustainability, community acceptance, and explore key opportunities through improved combustor design and fuel system heat management, to further minimize NOx emissions, improve energy efficiency and reduce the required volumes of LH2. The project will include experimental and analytical work for two key enabling technologies: H2 micromix combustion and fuel system heat management. These technologies will be evaluated and analysed for competing aircraft scenarios; an advanced tube and wing, and a blended wing body / hybrid wing body aircraft, both featuring distributed turbo-electric propulsion systems and boundary layer ingestion. The study will include mission energy efficiency and life cycle CO2 and economic studies of the technologies under various fuel price and emissions taxation scenarios. ENABLEH2 will deliver a comprehensive safety audit characterising and mitigating hazards in order to support integration and acceptance of LH2. Solutions will be proposed for any socioeconomic hurdles to further development of the technologies. A roadmap to develop the key enabling technologies and the integrated aircraft and propulsion systems to TRL 6 by 2030-2035 will be provided.

The future of aviation will have to be focused more and more around an environmentally sustainable improvement of aviation. This proposal constitutes the SESAR2020 Consortium Members’ combined response to the SESAR-W3-2020 Solutions found under the Industrial Research and Validation activities (IR) Topic 5–“Collaborative Management of TMA & Airport throughput” and under the Innovative Action (IA) SESAR-W3 Topic 6 “Integrated Runway Throughput and Terminal Efficiency (VLD-like)” as part of Very Large Scale Demonstrations (VLD). The call of these Topics 5 and 6 has been answered with a single, integrated proposal response. The proposal includes three Solutions: i. Solution track PJ37-W3-01 named "Integrated Runway Throughput and Terminal Efficiency" of Topic 06 ii. Solution track PJ37-W3-02 (Complement of PJ.07-W2-39 Collaborative framework managing delay constraints on arrivals) of Topic 5, and iii Solution track PJ37-W3-03 (Complement of PJ.01-W2-08 Dynamic E-TMA for Advanced Continuous Climb and Descent Operations and improved Arrival and Departure Operations) of Topic 5. Solution track PJ37-W3-01 will conduct a number of Real-Time Simulations (RTSs) and a Live Trial on two different operational environments one for departures and another one for arrivals, to demonstrate the benefits of the integrated TMA and runway throughput solutions; Solution track PJ37-W3-02 is a complementary activity and will perform a Validation Exercise involving Local DCB (FMP), Air space Users and an Airport Operator at CDG Aerodrome, directly contributing to the Solution data pack of Solution PJ.07-W2-39. The Solution track PJ37-W3-03 will support the PJ.01-W2-08 Solution data pack via a Real-Time Simulation of AMAN Arrival Streaming for Systemised, ideally using live trajectories, and a Shadow Mode Trial, RTSs on 3D-Departures and Optimized Descents and a study to reduce additional airborne times. The aim is to deliver a fast track towards deployment, maximize network performance by combining solutions to facilitate greener of aviation.

The Network Collaborative Management (NCM) project is based on a collaborative approach involving the whole spectrum of ATM actors: Airspace Users (AUs), Airports, Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) and Network Manager (NM). In Air Traffic Flow and Capacity Management (ATFCM), the performance targets and expectations at the network and local level could to be better achieved only through a collaborative synchronised effort of all the involved actors. An important part of improving the performance of network operations is the effective and efficient planning of network resources, by linking local optimization processes (including airport processes) with network optimization processes, taking into account stakeholders’ preferences where possible. This facilitates also the innovative usage and application of fine-tuned tailored measures (including target times) to further enhance of performance. NCM is divided into four main focus areas: • Network perspective (with local input and support): Scenario Management (including Hotspot Awareness) • Local perspective (facilitated by network support): Tactical Capacity Management • Airspace User Preferences: feeding both local and network perspectives • Local-network integration: Airport Network Integration. NM can act as a reliable, dynamic and flexible binder between the building elements (ANSPs, Airports and AUs) of the new improved and highly interactive ATM system, where each element brings its own unique sine qua non contribution to the robustness of the entire structure. NCM is a trust building exercise designed to demonstrate the maturity of the integrated network and local concept elements including the interactions between all ATM actors. It will pave the way for the SESAR Deployment activities and the implementation of the future performance driven ATM environment in Europe, while fulfilling in the same time stakeholders’ different operational needs and requirements.

Aircraft noise continues to cause adverse effects on quality of life and public health in airports’ neighbourhood. To address this challenge and ensure airports will have the capability to respond to the growing traffic demand, ANIMA aims to develop new methodologies and tools to manage and mitigate the impact of aviation noise, improving the quality of life near airports while facilitating airports growth and competitiveness of the EU aviation sector within the environmental limits, also considering 24/7 operations. Hence, ANIMA carries out critical review and assessment of noise impacts and existing management practices to establish best practices’ guidelines for an effective management of annoyance beyond ICAO Balanced Approach (WP2); develops a better understanding to address community annoyance, sleep disturbance and improve quality of life through pilot studies and surveys, assessing new methodologies reducing annoyance, testing novel and cost-effective solutions for land-use planning, using also mo
