"As a result of implementing Jean Monnet module at MIPT, on September 27, 2018, the MIPT Scientific Council made a decision to integrate the developed course 'The European Union integration: history, culture, political economy and key institutions' into the university curriculum. The course is now offered in English to students, MIPT faculty and other leading Russian Universities as an official professional development program. The syllabus has received excellent independent assessment by Dr. Erik Jones, Director of European Studies of SAIS, Bologna Centre of the Johns Hopkins University and Dr. Elena Viktorova, Director of International Information Analytic Center of St. Petersburg State Economics University.Over the course of the module implementation, 360 academic hours have been taught to MIPT students divided between 180 hours of lectures and seminars and 180 hours of independent self-study and preparation. The participating students have gained solid knowledge and understanding of the European integration process, history, culture, modern European identity, key institutions and political economy. The students have also improved their critical thinking, debating and presentation skills. The course provided a thorough analysis of the European integration history, evolution of key economic and political institutions, initial integration ideas and plans as envisioned and developed by its founding fathers- Jean Monnet and Robert Schuman. The students were given a broad overview of factors behind the integration efforts, challenges and opportunities, ‘spill-over’ effects and process in key policy areas, starting from the European Coal and Steel Community and expanding to the European Economic Community, monetary union, common foreign, security and humanitarian policy. The module has been developed into two main parts: a historical part and contemporary Europe part with challenges ranging from Brexit, immigration issues, pressures on euro and budget deficits, democratic deficit, rise of populist and far-right political movements, crisis of the European identity and Euroscepticism.Particularly interesting and engaging for students were case studies and role-plays dedicated to EU current issues: Brexit, Energy Security and European Council. On 28 May 2018 a lecture by Aleksey Gromyko, Director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IE RAS). RAS Corresponding Member. RIAC member, ""Modern Europe: competitive advantages and strategic miscalculations"" was organized at MIPT, attended by course participants and staff of MIPT. The lecture touched upon topical and highly interesting issues in US-Russia-EU-China relations. In June 2018, module coordinator Vitally Kartamyshev participated and made a presentation at St. Petersburg State Economics University conference 'Modern European Identity Formation in the framework of the EU Integration: Social and Cultural Dimensions'. After the conference, an article ""Modern European Identity formulation as a result of European Union integration"" has been published by the International Analytic Centre of Saint-Petersburg State University of Economics. On October 25, 2018 a conference 'Russia at a crossroad: strategic partnerships and prospects for cooperation with Europe and Asia. The issues of academic mobility, joint common security, identity and culture' was organized jointly by MIPT and Moscow International University. The conference featured a presentation by Mr. Roman Chukov, Russian Youth 20 Sherpa and Mr. Jerke Verschoor, Director of Nuffic/Nesso Russia. The participants engaged in a lively and intellectually stimulating dialogue on the issues of strategic partnerships, economic and policy competition, security, youth policy and engagement, crypto-currency, security and identity. In the second half of the conference, students and staff listened to a lecture by Mr. Jerke Verschoor about opportunities and advantages of studying in the Netherlands."

QuanTEEM proposes an Erasmus Mundus master’s joint programme in the booming field of quantum technology, with the ambition of educating a new generation of industrial experts, engineers, and researchers, as quantum innovators. The consortium of QuanTEEM is composed of four highly experienced partners in the field of quantum technology both in research and educational aspects: UBFC, TUK, AU and MIPT. It has been designed to integrate their complementary strengths supplemented by numerous industrial associated partners. QuanTEEM will develop strategies based on internationalisation (including interculturality), interdisciplinarity, intersectorality and innovation, for a unique joint programme in Europe. The programme is based on the established quantum pillars: quantum communication, quantum simulations, quantum sensing, quantum computers and computation, and quantum information sciences, towards innovation. It addresses aspects and applications ranging from basic research in physics and beyond to major grand challenges as energy, materials, health, security and environment, to which quantum technologies has started to apply. QuanTEEM will fill the skill shortage gap via the combination of strong research, excellent teaching, novel didactics concepts, and intersectorality via a strong industrial involvement. We will train high-level students with multifaceted qualification, who will have the ability (i) to be recruited in private companies active in the field of quantum technologies, (ii) to embark on a top-class PhD programme in laboratories or private companies, or (iii) to create a start-up. The consortium agreed on joint organisational and educational elements, such as core and elective courses, complemented by two seasonal schools, and master thesis internships. QuanTEEM offers numerous possibilities of mobility combined with specializations: photonics, quantum materials, many-body quantum physics, integrated quantum optics and platforms for quantum technologies.
