It will provide targeted benefits for final end users by enabling data protection by design and by default. In particular, the project will deliver an easily accessible and simple privacy enhancing dashboard useful for monitoring, keeping track record, and controlling all aspects related to data subjects personal data, privacy settings, eventually deciding to authorize/un-authorize personal data transfers. Thus, the primary aim of PoSeID-on is empowering data subjects in having a concise, transparent, intelligible and ease access, as well as tracking, control and management of their personal data processed by public and private organizations, acting as data controllers and/or data provider

SOSFood will therefore use data-exploitation and AI-based technologies to provide a holistic and comprehensive image of the EU food system and develop tailored predictive tools to support well-informed decisions of all stakeholders of the food chain, with a multi-factorial, multi-actor and multi-scale approach, thanks to its multidisciplinary consortium of experts, from private and public sectors, academia research and food system representative (consumers, producers and industries). Although several initiatives have been taken in the same line, none has fully succeeded at considering the global picture of the system or delivering a reliable and accessible message to the target audience. Hence, SOSFood will result in a consolidated food data space focused on sustainability and health and decision-making tools adapted to each level of the chain (a predictive dashboard displaying data and predictions for industries, and a mobile app for consumers comprising an eco-healthy fingerprint visualization plot, a greening indicator of industries, reformulated European recipes promoting healthy, local and seasonal ingredients and general recommendations), following these steps: (1) creating a multi-actor network gathering social, political, legal, economic, technological, food, health, environmental and climatic data, promoting transparency and data-sharing, (2) mapping the food system scenario with a multidimensional strategy, exploiting the interoperability of data with advanced impact analysis and innovative AI-technologies, (3) co-designing solutions i.e., decision-making tools fitting the context and priorities of each user, validated through field case studies to ensure viability and representativeness.

Data collected in digital solutions in the food and nutrition domain could be used by food producers, distributors, retailers to innovate towards more environmentally-friendly activities. However, the currently used platforms are closed, and do not allow citizens to exercise their rights to personal data sovereignty. Moreover the closed aspect of these platforms hinders the possibility to use these data for common good even if users gave their consent to share their anonymised personal data. It is time for Europe to ensure a healthy ecosystem of Digital Solutions for food and nutrition that respect citizens' right to personal data sovereignty. FOODITY will run a 2M€ pilot development program funding 12 Industry and research collaborations to develop pilots demonstrating the potential of data-driven innovations in health and nutrition, engaging citizens in their development. The pilots will demonstrate the potential of user’s personal data in health and nutrition solutions to contribute to more just and environmentally-friendly food systems, reaching over 200,000 citizens in our communication actions. The FOODITY Pilot development program we provide it's beneficiaries with a set of value adding services including one-to-one mentoring, training on technical business and legal topics relevant, as well as technical support into assets to which beneficiaries can use as building blocks the development of the pilots. FOODITY builds on the PROTEIN H2020 project will provide state-of-the-art tools and software components as building blocks for the development of personalised nutrition solutions, and the PoSeID-on H2020 project Provides a deployment-ready solution for trustworthy secure large-scale data sharing transactions, full GDPR compliance and relying on the centralised technologies and digital identity, thus guaranteeing the personal data sovereignty of the end users.

Additionally, climate change and biodiversity loss exacerbate the vulnerability of European food systems, as seen in recent climate-related disasters like wildfires and droughts, compounded by disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite food abundance in Europe, food insecurity threatens millions of European citizens, necessitating a comprehensive approach encompassing knowledge, technologies, behaviours, and policies that promote healthier and more sustainable food systems. Given citizen science (CS) as a potent tool for achieving these goals, SPOON takes the innovative approach to food insecurity by employing CS to empower citizens in creating a more inclusive and sustainable food environment. SPOON’s four main aims are to: deepen scientific knowledge about food environments; increase capacity of policymakers in data-driven decision-making; foster cross-sector collaboration; increase agency of citizens to change their food consumption behaviour and local food environments; and foster more confidence in citizens in sharing personal food data. SPOON bridges the intention-action gap towards healthier and more sustainable diets by placing citizens at the forefront of transforming the food system through CS integration. SPOON's conceptual framework centres around six CS Labs in Europe, coordinated by local partners and utilising a multi-actor approach. Citizens engage as both researchers and subjects, testing and validating innovative digital tools to collect, analyse and interpret data on their food consumption behaviors and local food environments to then co-design and run small-scale behaviour change interventions together with other stakeholders. SPOON prioritises GDPR compliance and FAIR principles in its data management.
