"The project ""Green practices in urban neighbourhoods"" was a partnership between Kulturlabor Trial&Error (Germany), ECOS (Portugal), Etudes ET Chantiers Bretagne Pays de La Loire (France), Etudes ET Midi Pyrenees (France) and Polska Fundacja (Poland). The projecdt length was 24 months and included preparation, planning, implementation and evaluation of 4 EVS mobilities in Berlin, Germany with Trial&Error. With the focus on topics as sustainability, youth employment, permaculture and diy, the project tackled the challenges of practising, teaching and sharing knowledge about green living in contemporary urban communities plus practical hands-on practice. The project was born in cooperation and common brainstorm with some of the project participants, the necessity was the inclusion of groups with fewer opportunities, opening access to knowledge to underpriviledged, promotion of green practices in urban neighbourhoods as well as exchange between individuals and organisations in European level. The first mobility with Joana from Portugal lastet 12 months of EVS. The second mobility with Maureen lasted for 7 months. Agnieszka and Ewen came for 8 month and had to stop due to the official end of the project. All Projects had a preparation phase, we paid extra attention to get to know each other and plan the mobility together with the volunteers as well as spent 2 months of evaluation, reflection and spreading the results of the project. With 3 our of 4 participants EVS the volunteers focused on working together with members of Trial&Error - built an urban gardening spot, engaged the neighbourhood, facilitated platform for discussions, exchange of knowledge and skills related to sustainability, environment and upcycling. As well, the volunteers were engaged in the regular activities of the Trial&Error, such as Foodsharing events, Community Garden, Swap Shop, Recycled Creativity Festival, DIY workshops in the project space and events of Trial&Error cooperation partners. The project started with 1 mobility, overlapped with the 2nd one, so Joana and Maureen worked together for some time. The last 2 mobilities happend simultanously and lasted for 8months, so the volunteers could work together in a team. We could ensure the continuity of the project activities."

The context was given by the work of EUROACCION in the social inclusion of disadvantaged people (immigrants, young people with legal action, ethnic minorities...) and the collaboration with other organizations EUROACCION works with, e.g. PROJECT ABRAHAM, where the young people have seen the importance of the awareness of the situation of other people (including young people like themselves) who do not have the same opportunities than the rest. The idea of this project arisen also from our intense activity in training courses, workshops and other training activities. We considered this project as a great opportunity for Young people, because in this proposal more people and entities had the ability to take an apprenticeship that is useful for developing future personal and professional projects. It was a long-term (9 months) EVS Project where EUROACCION acted as a Coordinating Organisation and Receiving Organization hosting 2 volunteers and another volunteer was hosted by PROJECT ABRAHAM.The objectives of the project were:- Provide European volunteer a space for learning about themselves/the social inclusion work, so that they could deepen Non-formal Education methodologies designed for this social purpose.- Improve the supply of existing activities in Murcia for disadvantaged youth through collaboration and the support provided by European volunteers, as well as other entities in the organization of such activities.- Provide European volunteers experience as an intercultural approach to reality and the Spanish culture in the region of Murcia and in general being supported while learning Spanish- Promote awareness of the Erasmus + Programme: YOUTH IN ACTION in high schools, universities and other groups and youth associations through the experiences of the European volunteers and others who spoke from their own experience as users and direct beneficiaries of this Programme. The activities of this project included:- Socio-labor care- Workshops: for leisure with children and young people at risk of social exclusion; education in social and environmental values in Schools, Associations and Universities; intergenerational dialogue; to promote social inclusion of young people with legal actions; teaching English to immigrant children and youth and/or youth with fewer opportunities; Intercultural activities with children and youth; Social Street Theatre; occupational training workshops; and workshops and presentations of the ERASMUS program + YOUTH in the high schools and the University in Murcia city.- Extracurricular activities with children (tutoring, drawing and painting, games). - Social awareness activities- Training risk-groups and/or social exclusion groups to improve the process of socio-labour integration.- Discuss awareness.- Support the collection of municipal solid waste and all kinds of material that could be reused, recycled and/or fixed and help in the function of the shopping streets and shopping markets.- Logistical support training courses on personal growth, human rights education, Intercultural learning-to-learn, coaching, personal and professional supervision and social inclusion.- Collaboration and logistical support youth projects and social inclusion.- Support office tasks (web maintenance, internal administrative management tasks...).- Receive Spanish classes - Language exchange in English and Spanish.- Support in workshops and activities with other associations and organizations who collaborate with EUROACCION e.g. ASTRADE, CUCURUMILLO and Innuendo. The work methodology was based on the characteristic of non-formal education, workshops, discussions, exercises, and group dynamics, role playing, energizers, social theatre activities, lectures and multimedia presentations, individual exercises of reflection on own activities for learning and self-assessment skills (and better preparation of the YOUTHPASS later), interviews with the tutor and weekly with the project coordinators, etc.We believe that this project generated an improvement in the quality of work that these volunteers develop in their local communities and organizations after the volunteers finished their EVS project. The work that they did have a multiplier effect. Other groups of disadvantaged young people of the community from which they come benefit from their volunteer work. This is also beneficial for European volunteers and people who work each day directly or indirectly with them.

COCAT is the Coordinator of international work-camp organizers in Catalonia. The main activity of COCAT consisted in coordinating and managing voluntary services in the area of international workcamps such as: giving trainings, fostering long-term voluntary service and representing at international level our country within international and European networks. International voluntary workcamps are conceived as a tool of personal and community growth for both youngsters and for the hosting communities, working on key concepts such as non-formal education and solidarity. The number of volunteers hosted through this project was two. The activities carried out throughout the EVS dealed with strengthening, valuing and developing international volunteer service as an engine for social transformation and understanding between cultures. The volunteers mainly acted in Catalonia, mostly in Barcelona. During the winter and spring months the volunteers helped COCAT’s technical staff in preparing informative material and carrying out debates and meetings with youngsters, spreading the word on the opportunities of international volunteer service. During the spring and beginning of summer they helped with the Catalan volunteers’ placement and they will participate at the trainings designed for volunteers who joined international work-camps and EVS projects. The candidates participated and went together with COCAT’s technical staff to visit international work-camps running in Catalonia; they carried out training activities with the work-camps’ participants and they also had the chance to join an international work-camp in Catalonia and a youth exchange. Our project is based on the principles and values of non-formal education. The methodology therefore fostered active commitment from the volunteers in all the activities of our association, through a frame of a structured but flexible work. At different given moments COCAT was in charge of training the candidates so that they could be able to carry out their tasks autonomously and proposing activities in tune with their needs and preferences. The project had a double general aim: firstly, fostering COCAT’s networking at international and local level, and secondly, spreading the international voluntary service and mobility opportunities among young Catalans. The results we expected , according the specific objectives we planned to achieve by this project, were: 1. Improving our EVS candidates’ personal growth and their employability on the European labor market, through their participation in COCAT’s projects.2. Promoting understanding of other cultures different from the young participants’ ones. 3. Fostering mobility and long-term voluntary service opportunities, helping its diffusion at local and international levels. 4. Promoting and encouraging the inclusion of international projects of youngsters with less opportunities and promoting and raising awareness on sustainable development and environmental issues. We focused the impact of our project both on EVS volunteers and on Catalan volunteers to whom COCAT addresses its activities on intercultural learning and we expect to foster interest on relevant issues such as active citizenship, networking, international solidarity and cooperation. The presence of EVS volunteers in our organization had a multipliying effect in raising awareness and interest among young Catalans so that they felt motivated to start a long term European youth mobility project and we wish that our local partners felted encouraged to write and propose new projects in the new Erasmus Plus’ framework. On a long-term basis the activities we plan for this project will help to foster understanding between different cultures by gathering young people from different countries and have them living and sharing experiences with each other. We believe that the project will strengthen the positive example of youngsters having an active role in building a more fair and conscious society through international projects for local development and it will ultimately encourage a deeper understanding of the fundamental role each one of us plays in developing solidarity projects for the common good, organized by and addressed to civil society.
