    This project seeks to make an important contribution to the waste management education in Sri Lanka. This is an area that requires urgent attention and where new courses at bachelor and master level are needed. By developing new interdisciplinary programmes and redesigning existing programmes, the Sri Lankan HEIs will offer up-to-date, student-centred programmes with increased focus on employability. In total,2 new programmes will be developed a the master’s level. In addition 3 programmes will be redesigned, at bachelor's level.In order to achieve the biggest impact possible action will be taken on several fronts: by establishing and revamping courses, training workshops for teachers, digital learning, close attention to increased recruitment of female students, cooperation with industry, inclusion of local municipalities as associated partners and intensive dissemination and exploitation activities. These combined activities will build the capacity at the HEIs in waste management, providing advisory services to municipalities and companies, raise the international profile of the institutions and develop the capacity of staff involved in the project for conducting high-quality teaching and research.Future graduates will be equipped to tackle the waste management challenges Sri Lanka faces and to improve living conditions for the average citizen and create new jobs.This is in line with institutional and national needs, European priorities and UN Development Goals.The project team has been assembled based on their expertise and interest for these topics. Experts from the field of Business Management and Engineering have been brought together in order to achieve a more comprehensive approach to the issue of waste management.

    The Water Harmony Erasmus+ project developed improved learning and teaching tools, methodologies and pedagogical approaches focusing on 6 water-related subjects: Water resources management, Water treatment, Wastewater treatment, Industrial wastewater treatment, Innovation and entrepreneurship, Academic writing.In course of the project, HEIs from Partner and Program Countries developed new study programs, online quality surveys, improved eLearning resources, established credits recognition practices, learned to pay attention to gender balance issues and transparency in awarding scholarships. The project introduced innovative approach to curricula development based on co-creation, detailed needs and stakeholders analysis, best practices.The project developed 6 new water-related courses, supported with generic curricula, teaching materials, laboratory practicum, teaching methodologies based on blended learning and competence-based approach. The project upgraded laboratories with lab courses and teaching tools. It also developed soft-skills agenda for HEIs from Partner Countries, focused on academic writing, entrepreneurship and collaboration with enterprises, supported with teaching materials and guidelines.Project members from HEIs of Partner Countries learned to think multi-purposely, utilizing resources and the ways to enable financial sustainability in challenging economies, creating opportunities for joint research with industrial partners by demonstrating their capabilities. Participants experiences facilitation techniques for identification of innovations, involving potential investors, guiding to commercialization.The project served as a core for development of national networks of water professionals. It also provided inputs to national standards development and national/international certification/accreditation practices. The project improved positioning of universities, particularly related with international outlook, and helped to strengthen the role of higher education institutions in society at large.

    Every year, moreEvery year, more than one hundred million people suffering from accidents or life-threatening diseases save their life thanks to blood components transfusions obtained from generous donations and the continued evolution of a yet “old” scientific discipline: Transfusion Medicine. Transfusion Medicine (TM) is a globally spread medical science seeking for the universal access of patients to enough and safe blood and blood components. This goal is practically achieved on many countries, with a high degree of quality harmonisation in Europe and North America. Contrarily, it does not happen yet in other parts of the world such as Central and South America and AsiaTo achieve the WHO objectives competency among staff in transfusion medicine needs to be improved to achieve the goal “universal access to safe blood and blood products for transfusion”. Staff should develop their competency in many aspects. Most health professionals in Asia are only trained initially before recruiting to the blood transfusion services and occasionally trained through workshops and in-service training. The consortium wishes to undertake this this capacity building in order to achieve two major goals: i) To Improve competences on professionals working in the field of transfusion medicine in order to make a blood transfusion safer and to save precious human lives and, ii) to improve the harmonization of transfusion medicine practice within Asian countries.The project will integrate knowledge from Asia and Europe in the development of education programs in TM and will provide Asian partners with sophisticated equipment that will facilitate education tasks ant the long-term implementation of the model.The joint common knowledge and the building of flexible and updated facilities make the described objectives achievable and realistic. The consortium does believe that the current situation in Sri Lanka and Asia Pacific concerning the management of haematological health diseases.

    The total primary energy supply in Sri Lanka has increased substantially and the electricity demand growth is also recorded as 6% per annum. These growths during the last decade has created a considerable local impact in terms of energy supply security, air pollution, environmental pollution, water scarcity, damage to national heritage and having a direct impact on human life in particular. As a result of three decade-long internal conflict, the lack of development in infrastructure facilities within the Northern Province and the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka have created enormous gap compare to the Southern part of the country. This has directly affected to skill labour availability in the conflict affected areas and created a living standard deference. Aligning Sri Lanka with Goal 7 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, it is expected to reduce country’s dependence on fossil fuels to below 50% of the primary energy supply by 2030. The skill shortage is act as a barrier for archiving expected sustainable goals. As Sri Lanka have enormous potential to generate the required energy supply form renewable energy resources, it is highly critical to identify and address the existing skill level gaps with regards to renewable energy generation. As the outcome of this project five training centres will be developed across the country ( Northern, Eastern, Southern, Western and Central Provinces of Sri Lanka) and eLearning materials are expected to developed for provide training to three main categorise groups, which has listed in its Report on “Skill and Occupational Needs of Renewable Energy 2011” various kinds of skill requirements for different renewable energy sector. It is expected that THREE -LANKA project will contribute for developing skills levels in all the categorise groups in Sri Lanka starting from students, graduate engineers to project managers in the field of Renewable technologies.
