The title of our project, “Towards European horizons, departing from our cultural heritage”, sums up what we want very well. Our school (CRA Escoles del Xúquer) was born in 2006 as a union between two former independent schools: CEIP Gavarda and CEIP Penyarroja. Nowadays there are five groups in Preschool Education (three in Gavarda and two in Sumacàrcer) and ten groups in Primary Education (six in Gavarda and four in Sumacàrcer). Our school is a plurilingual centre where three languages are used: the two official languages in the Valencian Community (Spanish and Valencian) and English, used as a subject and in Arts and Crafts as a vehicular language. Less than a 20% of the staff is qualified to teach non-linguistic areas in English. We want to increase this percentage to make progress in our plurilingual project. The teaching staff are strongly committed to improving the digital competence of the students. We value the importance that a good instruction in this field has. We want to remark that we live in a rural environment and pupils show a very strong link with their surroundings. In our school we do different activities to strengthen this link: hiking, the participation in the water day, etc. Besides, soon we will start building an ecological garden in the school yard to raise awareness in sustainability. In addition, the teacher staff are very concerned about learning new methodologies that can give a response to the diversity we find in our classrooms. Due to all of these facts we have established as main objectives of this project the following ones: • To promote a proactive citizenship. • To preserve the cultural heritage in Sumacàrcer and Gavarda. • To improve the staff’s communicative competence in English. • To promote exchange relationship with other schools. • To improve the teaching-learning process. • To learn about active methodologies to implement them in our school. All the staff members will participate actively in this plan because we need to apply all the knowledge that we acquire with this K1 project in every stage (preschool and primary school) and every specialty (English, Arts and Crafts, Physical Education, etc). The activities that we are going to carry out are the following: 1.- Job Shadowing with Osnovna škola Gračani, Zagreb, Croatia With this activity we want to acquire knowledge to implement in our school positive conducts towards the environment. 2.- Job Shadowing with Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących nr 2 w Białej Podlaskiej in Poland. Direct observation of how they implement new technologies in their school to apply in our centre all the knowledge that we acquire there. 3.- Job Shadowing with Miejski Zespol Szkol in Poland. Implementation of a plan to protect students when using Internet. 4.-Education and counseling for students with Autism and Asperger syndrome. To widen our knowledge to improve the social inclusion of pupils with special educational needs. 5.-Approaching PBL practically To spread the project-based-learning methodology in Primary Education. 6.-The Montessori Method of Teaching Applied -AMFI To renew our methodology to develop collaborative work, critical attitudes and creativity in our pupils and teachers. 7.-ACTIVATE your ENGLISH for TEACHING (B1+, B2) in IRELAND-10 training days To improve our communicative competence in English to consolidate and widen our plurilingual project. Regarding the methodology that we used to do this project, we have worked through periodical meetings and creating a commission with staff members of different educational stages and with different profiles. For this reason our basis is teamwork, as this is a project that is going to make an impact in all the school staff. Concerning the results expected and the long-term benefits, we could remark the immediate increase in the communicative competence in English of both teachers and students, a renewal in our methodologies, the improvement of knowledge about pupils with special educational needs, the progress in ICT competences, the development of proactive conducts and the progress in knowledge to develop a European dimension in our school, which it could lead in participating in other K1 or K2 projects, eTwinning…
