The academic year 2016/17 was not an exception. UiA participated actively in Erasmus+ Key Action 1 Learning mobility of individuals also this study year. The main objective was as in previous years to continue supporting the individuals pursuing the mobilities between universities in Europe. The total number of mobilities was 132 - 94 students and 38 staff members. The activities included learning mobility for studies, learning mobility for traineeships, staff mobility for teaching and staff mobility for training. The results show that the project continues to play an important role for the internationalisation of our university, despite minor changes in distribution of mobilities between the activities especially when it comes to staff mobilities. The mobility of students and staff increases their awareness of global challenges and opportunities, boosts their cross-cultural and pan-european knowledge as well as inhances their adaptivity and employability. In a long term perspective, the participants who have fullfilled the stay abroad will be more prepared for global challenges and play an active role in the cross-border cooperation. Another focus during this study year has been on the participation of staff members in language courses. A total number of 11 staff members have participated in language courses abroad - 10 in English language course and 1 in French language course. This is an increase of 120% compared to study year 2015-2016.The results show that our students become more internationally oriented and independent persons. One of the most important trends to notice is that the majority of students report on increased understanding of value of different cultures as well as an increased level of adaptivity to new situations. Our teachers and administrative staff members report on good results in experimenting and developing new learning practices or teaching methods, gain of sector-specific or practical skills relevant for current job and professional development as well as learning from good practices abroad and development of network as well as reinforcement of cooperation with the partner institutions.

While preserving our national values as foundation for our core organizational culture, we engage in various activities globally and aim at developing a fully international campus at home. Our strategy focuses on carefully chosen areas of the world where we aim to deliver our best academic performance in close cooperation both with long-lasting as well as newly established partners. The mobility project with Thailand reflects a mutual interest in traditional music and music business. The project has been is of high relevance due the mutual exchange of new knowledge in music, which has provided students with a better understanding of the different aspects of the music industry and popular music genres. Additionally, the cultural diversity and possibilities inherent in the exchange has contributed to valuable insights into the variety and perception of music. As for the mobility project with Taiwan it has initiated a long-term research and education cooperation between UiA and NCTU, starting from the area of ICT. All mobilities have been acheived and the master students have been involved in research at the faculty. In Uganda students have collaborated with local NGOes during their field work and their thesis and the results have been distributed to relevant organisations, the department and fellow students. The master’s thesis have been published in the UiA library website. In Nepal the Eramus+ project has created a pathway towards building capacity of KUSoA. Consequently, it has strengthened the partnership for research and education between UiA and KUSoA. Students from UiA participated in field work and data collection together with fellow students from Nepal which resulted in a master’s thesis. In Indonesia the particular project is anchored within the Department of Anthropology (DoA) at UGM. DoA is one of the most preferred places to study anthropology in Indonesia. Student mobility between UiA and UGM has enabled the expansion of the students’ mental horizon beyond the border of their own ideology, learning to face variation of cultures, norms and values and to start building global network from an early stage of their education. Students have collaborated with local NGOes during their field work and their thesis and the results have been distributed to relevant organisations, the department and fellow students. The project with Kazakhstan has allowed all master students to take part in the broad common research agenda of UIA and KIMEP on comparative regionalism as well as EU-Central Asia relations, and have strengthened the UIA – KIMEP relation. Alltogether these 2017-2019 projects has resulted in19 incoming students to UiA and 5 staff mobilities, and 11 outgoing students and 5 staff mobilities. Most of the mobilities we applied for have been accomplished, but we have also learned more about some of the challenges regarding last minute changes of planned mobilities of different reasons, and how to better prepare for this in future projects. Longer-term benefits: Both students and staff from participating institutions gain from receiving additional knowledge on the respective countries. The participants learn from each other's cultures, learning process and approaches towards the specific fields specified in each project. We also believe that on the student level, all partners will have increased chances both on a national andinternational labour market after the graduation, which will give them relevant opportunities to expand their horizons and to develop themselves further in their particular field. Such mobility projects provide an unique opportunity to take part in an international network of students, access academic literature and be linked to global research networks. The international credit mobility projects in Erasmus+ has been wider known at all faculties, and UiA has had an increase in applications every year. We see these projects as valuable both for the individuals involved but also to further strengthening the quality in cooperation and agreements with our partner institutions worldwide."
