The main focus of this project is to teach a group of students from two different countries the skills involving formal debating. The point of this is to equip young people to become skilled and valuable decision-makers in local, regional, national and international decision-making in their respective democratic settings. Furthermore the objective of this project is to disseminate the idea that debates in a democracy must be qualified and structured. It is important to learn to listen to other points of view and incoorporate these as part of a final decision. Understanding another culture and improving communicative skills are other objectives. Also the project will involve students outside our own group of high school students to spread the knowledge of formal debating to younger students. The number of participants will be 36 in total: 32 students (16 from each country) and 4 teachers (2 from each country). The students will all be part of an upper-secondary level educational programme. The teachers from Denmark will educate the Italian teachers as well as their students in regard to the rules of formal debating. The actual project will take place in different stages:Late September 2016 all 1st year students at Christianshavns Gymnasium will participate in half a day of learning the basic rules of formal debating, the Italian students will learn about the basic rules of debating as well at their school. Material will be provided by the Danish teachers. In October 2016 study groups will be offered to students after school hours in which the different elements of formal debate will be elaborated and refined. This is also to prepare the students for the following visit from the Italian school.October 2nd -7th 2016 the group from Vincenza will visit Christianshavns Gymnasium and will be involved in a week of workshops, learning and trying out the basic formal debate with our group of Danish students. Topics of general interest to members of the European Union will be discussed and it will make the students realize the benefits of formal debating and how this induces a desire to become democratically involved. Furthermore the students from Vincenza will participate in classes at our school and visit important cultural sites.March 12th - 17th 2017 a revisit will take place in Vincenza. All the students will again participate in formal debate sessions - this time a more advanced type - and the Danish students will also visit classes and important cultural sites in the area.Upon their return the students from each school will visit younger students and teach the elements of formal debate. The students particpating in this project will have acquired skills which can be used to further their own academic careers, but also skills which will encourage participation in debates which is essential in a democracy; to get involved and to become committed citizens.

"Project context: Training needs at “Maria Zambrano"""" school come from the implementation of bilingual English-language section. But learning a language and getting the level B2 of the Common European framework is not enough. The updating needs about methodological and educational issues are equally important and should be on balance with the language competence level. Therefore, teachers of non-language subjects at """"Maria Zambrano"""" have coordinated the development of this training project hoping to achieve the following objectives:1 -. Improving English language competence related to the specificity lexical of any subject. 2 - Learning how to program our subjects from the new perspective created by the bilingual project, specifying the level of importance of content and language skills on it. 3 - Getting specific methodological strategies to teach a non-language subject such as CLIL applications. 4 - Acquiring as skill to teach in English as in Spanish language. 5- Incorporating new and much more motivating contents from partner institutions and specific training centers. The contestants to the training teachers project come from different teaching departments: chemistry 1 Physical Education 2, Spanish language 1, Drawing 1, classical Culture 1, and Physics 1. Altogether are 6 teachers, all them are taking part or plan to participate in the future in the bilingual section. All they have a degree level in different subjects and have got a English language level B1en and B2 according to the Common European Framework for LanguageThere are two types of activities to perform: - Training courses in different countries: Finland, where attend both of the physical education teachers to participate in the international conference """"PESEMINAR"""". UK where travel, three teachers (Spanish language, art and Chemistry) for specific applications and training in CLIL methodology. Greece where the teacher of Classical Culture travel. - Job shadowing in Italy, where take part a teacher of physical education, observing and teaching, at """"Raetia"""" high school from Ortisei, its physical fitness class lessons methodology. The methodology approaches during the training period will aim to integrate learning in both contexts: contents of subjects and language skills (CLIL methodology CLIL). After 12 months of training in CLIL methodology, by different teachers and after sharing of mutual experiences, we believe to have got a important impact on the improvement of bilingual teaching action. We hope to close this Impact with: - Learning specific vocabulary in English for each subject. - Learning how to present contents in a different language. - Solving tricky grammar problems that complicate the explanation of non-language contents.- Making a guide of advises to change our monolingual materials to bilingual materials without losing the essence of the subject contents. The main beneficiaries of this training are the students who have chosen the way of the bilingual learning. As bilingual learning tends to be generalized, long-term beneficiaries will be all students at secondary and high school. We will also broadcast the results of this training in order to help other teachers from the town and across the region."
