High School Slovenska Bistrica implements education programs: merchant, secondary vocational education program - economic and metallurgical technician, and general Secondary school education program. Due to the development of the metal industry in the city, the demand for personnel in the field of mechanical engineering and metal processing has been increasing in the last five years. At the same time, the place is very attractive for the development of tourism, as it lies at the foothills of the green Pohorje, which is enriched by many excursion points, tourist farms, ski resorts and rich cultural heritage. In designing the project, we followed the needs of the economy in our environment, especially in the field of metallurgy and tourism. We selected partners APLICAPROPOSTA LDA from Braga in Portugal and EUROMIND PROJECTS SL from Malaga in Spain. The planned mobility dates were September 2018 (in the 2018/19 school year) and March 2020 (in the 2019/20 school year), and we planned the mobility of 40 students in the 3rd year of professional programs. In September 2018, we carried out 21 mobilities (11 students in the metallurgical and 10 students in the economic technician program, in Braga, and in March 2020 we planned mobility for an additional 23 students (15 mobility of metallurgical in Portugal and 8 for economic technicians in Spain). Unfortunately, the declaration of an epidemic in 2020 prevented us from carrying out mobility in Spain, and 15 students had to return early from Portugal to their homeland.Despite all the difficulties, we successfully realized all the set goals of the project, as the active participants demonstrated the progress of knowledge, skills and abilities that are essential for their further professional and personal development. Before the students left, we carried out quality preparations at the school (psychological, orientation, pedagogical, cultural), all procedures for the implementation of the project were carried out in cooperation with partner organizations (learning agreements and other necessary documents, agreements on jobs, accommodation, food, transport, etc.). Practical training for students of the economic technician program included learning about organization and work planning, the field of office operations, business correspondence, finance and accounting, marketing, etc. For this purpose, the participants also used various computer software tools. The results of their work were evaluated in professional modules (from the composition and use of documents, collection and evaluation of business ideas to the preparation of their own business plans, which could be implemented in the local environment). Students of the program of metallurgical technicians learned about technologies and processes of non-ferrous metal processing, work organization and thus acquired the competencies necessary for successful solving of problems in the field of metal processing. They compared companies abroad and at home, transferred new knowledge to domestic companies, where they performed mandatory internships and provided guidelines for improvement. They also produced a technical dictionary with professional terms in the field of mechanical engineering and metallurgy in English and Slovenian. During daily communication and in the workplace, all participants significantly upgraded their knowledge of English, especially the language of the profession, and learned the basics of Portuguese. Visits to tourist attractions and recognizing the specifics of places, with emphasis on economic evaluation of natural and social attractions, enriched their understanding of multiculturalism and respect for the culture of coexistence, as well as the ability to identify new business opportunities, increase self-employment and thus reduce unemployment. Accompanying teachers have usefully included new insights and examples of good practice, as well as comprehensive knowledge of students outside the school environment, in updates of education, curricula and further practical training of students. In these two years, we noticed a greater relevance of professional programs, as with the help of the promotion of the Erasmus + mobility project, we recorded an increased enrollment of students, especially in the economic technician program (by 26%). After the evaluation of the project, we find that at various levels the exchange of professional competencies in the economic and metallurgical professions has been established, which brings positive effects both at the level of education and later in various economic activities. The long-term impact of the project for all participants is increased awareness of the importance of lifelong learning as a basis for continuous and effective professional and personal development and greater motivation to build a successful career path. The internship was officially recognized to all participants, and they also received Europass Mobility and employers' certificates.

Based on the positive feedback from Erasmus programs at school, we would like to offer another opportunity for our students to spend their internship abroad. We consider the foreign professional practice announced for secondary vocational school students a gap-filling activity. Besides acquiring professional knowledge, it is an excellent opportunity for students to improve their foreign language and communication skills. Participation in the project is also possible for those students who cannot afford themselves to go abroad with their own funding. With this project we are planning to travel to a new country, we want to build new partnerships and get to know Portuguese culture and work morale. That is why we are planning the internship of 12 students studying English in Portugal, Braga, in the commercial, economics and business sectors. The date of the mobility (22 October – 18 November, 2018) coincides with the autumn break, so students need to make up for less school work and their accompanying teachers need to be substituted by their colleagues less. Another aspect of choosing the date is that during this period, our teachers and students are least burdened, there is still time to prepare for closing the school year and to pass the necessary exams successfully. The project is planned to start with the selection of the students. Participants are going to be selected for mobility by professional subject teachers, language teachers and form teachers with applying a predetermined scoring system. Then, they are contemplated to be provided with language, culture, country knowledge and psychological preparation prior to their departure. In the course of the mobility, two accompanying teachers and a mentor of the host institution are intended to follow the practice, which is going to be reported by the students' regular work diary. After consulting the Portuguese host organization, it became clear that their practical training can greatly contribute to the development of the students’ communicative, professional and social competencies. Our students are intended to be placed in pairs in commercial units and office environments. After travelling back home, the reports on the project, and the dissemination through several channels, both in-school and out-of-school media, are planned from the part of both students and accompanying teachers. The project reports in schooling parental meetings, open days, as well as in the event of the Night of Professions are of great importance. The students are planned to receive a EUROPASS certificate of the completed practical training, which can be helpful during searching a job later. Therefore, the aim of the project is that the motivating role of the foreign environment may be important in these trades if students are thinking of working abroad later. An important aspect is the practice of trade-specific foreign languages, which may later be a basic condition for filling a job. As a holder of a perpetual Eco-school title, our task is to educate students on behaviours for sustainable development, which we are also planning to implement in the present project. During the foreign practice students can get acquainted with the country-specific environmentally conscious approaches, Eco-technologies, which, after their arrival back home, they are going to disseminate among their teachers, fellow students, and they can include in their future lifestyle and their work as well.

The achieved goals and results of this project represent the further milestones realized within the action plan of the 5-year internationalisation strategy of the school and significant contribution to the achievement of the main strategic goals. We expanded the network of our receiving partners (4 new partners, 3 new host countries) We created two important results which are sustainable and transferrable: -a new module “Hotel services” as a transfer of example of good practice and response to the needs of the employers at home and abroad (providing tourism students with basic competences in gastronomy and housekeeping - not included in the educational programme)-a new 5-day programme for staff mobility “Taste and experience Slovenia” (5 locations in Slovenia, 7 companies involved)The project activities and their impact contributed to active cooperation with the economic sector:- by including employees from companies in the staff mobility (focus on acquiring or improving communication skills in foreign languages-DE, EN and contribution of professional knowledge/experience to the contents of the new module. - by involving experts from the company as host lecturers for the new module (result) of the project- by including the companies into the implementation of the new programme for incoming staff mobility - by involving the employers as host companies in the incoming mobility Involving companies and/or their experts into the implementation of the modules within the open curriculum and of incoming mobility programmes represents an innovative approach in education and training and a new form of cooperation with the economic sector at the same time.We improved the conditions and services of the school as receiving organisation for incoming mobility. The improvements are based on the examples of good practice and evaluation of the student and staff mobility as well as on the feedback of two incoming groups from Lithuania (long-term mobility) and Finland (short-term mobility at the institution). The joint presentations of participants from the school and companies to our partners and host companies and interviews of students at partners schools with participants from companies during the staff mobility raised the transparency of the school as receiving organisation , too.For the first time we invited a foreign expert as a host lecturer within the a Michelin star chef from Italy. His highly interesting workshop was implemented twice (for the students and for the invited professionals from the companies) and attracted attention of the media and broad public, too.We improved the recognition of the learning outcomes acquired during the student mobility: beside the full recognition of the compulsory in-company training the participants received grades at different subjects (profession-related subjects, foreign languages etc.) from the curriculum. The grades were given on the basis of their presentations or demonstrations of the competences acquired and the grades on the evaluation sheets filled in by their host mentors. The implemented mobility activities had great impact not only on the participants and organisations involved but also on the system: updated educational contents matching the actual needs of the employers on one side (the new modul) and raised motivation and interest of the employers for further cooperation with the school. The structure of participants covered a wide range of profiles: -students from all 3 educational programmes ( covering gastronomy, hotel services and tourism area) and young graduates (long-term mobility)-school staff including teachers and trainers, participants from administration and management staff, members of the International office SŠGT Celje;-staff from the companies: professionals from gastronomy and tourism area, mentors of internships and management staff. The total number of mobility participants exceeded the number 100 for the first time. Regarding the usability and sustainability of the main results, the feedback of the participants and the positive impact on all actors involved in this project we consider it successful and an important step forward towards achieving the 5-year strategic goals.
