Studies published in recent months show the digital divide experienced in schools by both families and teachers. However, other previous studies had already recognised the competence and value of innovative and inclusive practices developed by teachers in schools of special difficulty. The aim of the project PIECIT is to promote social inclusion through a double priority: (1) inclusive educational practices with digital means and (2) training and capacity building of teachers from the basis of their experiences. The project will identify, analyse and valorise previous inclusive practices carried out with digital media by different European schools. These practices will be the grounds for developing tools and competences to promote the implementation of creative and innovative solutions to the challenges produced by the pandemic situation. In this way, other teachers will be able to reinforce and develop strategies to respond to the needs of their schools.PIECIT is a balanced consortium of 7 partners from 4 EU countries committed to establishing a sustainable partnership over time. It is composed of 3 pairs of University-school partners from Spain, Italy and Portugal, and a technological partner which is the University of Cyprus. All the activities leading to the implementation of each of the results of the project, as well as the organization of the multiplier events and the transnational meetings, will be coordinated and led by different partners, establishing co-responsibility and cooperation as a fundamental pillar among the partners.Methodologically, the project will combine 4 processes: (1) identification of inclusive schools; (2) analysis of the impact of the COVID-19; (3) design of tools; (4) implementation, generating the respective results detailed below:(1) The creation of 'a network of inclusive schools' in connection with successful practices to improve student inclusion. A digital platform open to participation and exchange will make it possible to generate and develop tools, materials and skills that help to discover innovative and inclusive solutions with digital means within reach, to disseminate them in schools and universities, and to generate new projects that reinforce the R&D&I system and the realities being researched.(2) The analysis of needs and potentialities in the schools involved in the network regarding innovative and inclusive practices with digital media facing the COVID-19. Life stories/testimonies, a questionnaire, teachers' voices on policy issues and the production of a book with examples of ‘successes and failures' show realities of innovative educational practices with digital means that facilitate the empowerment of the teaching profession.(3) A 'methodology towards an inclusive school', based on a guide to good inclusive practices with digital means and a self-diagnosis digital tool, contributes to teachers' reflection on their practice and to change based on the needs and possibilities in their school.(4) A guide for implementation in schools that structures, synthesizes the process and guides the actions of management teams, teachers and families. Its open nature and editable format will allow it to be adapted for use in different schools. The purpose of the project is to promote the inclusion of students while showing the value and potential of schools that, despite the digital, social and territorial divides, respond to their social and technological needs and become examples of inclusion. The project contributes to the empowerment of schools, but its impact and benefits are also projected on Higher Education institutions and on society in general at local, national and European level.
