This project has allowed the both Petroc and our partner, Monlau Centre d'Estudis SA, to build on the success of previous Erasmus+ co-operation between our Automotive departments.Petroc’s catchment area in Northern Devon is primarily rural and many of our students face difficulties in accessing appropriate work experience, which in turn can become a barrier to their eventual employment. The primary objective of this project was to give meaningful high quality work experience to a group of students in an urban city environment which requires different skills and abilities to working in the small family-run businesses which are prevalent throughout Northern Devon.Project content included:-Preparation activities including language and cultural lessons-2-week programme in Spain consisting of work placements, a city tour from Spanish students, team building with Spanish students, and cultural visits to attractions such as La Sagrada Familia-A presentation summarising the mobility and the participant’s experience given at a Celebration Evening-Recognition of participation with Europass-Completion of the Participant ReportThe group travelled to Barcelona in April 2016 where Monlau arranged for them to be placed in a range of businesses so that students could experience first-hand working in functions such as marketing, hotel reception and administration. Over the course of the 2 week mobility, many of the learners reported that they felt they had made a tangible contribution to the business where they were placed, and had enjoyed the chance to get to know a busy cosmopolitan city, very different from the Devon countryside in which they live. The outcomes for the individual students include increased employability skills, knowledge of Spanish business practices, a greater sense of independence and confidence in their own abilities, and raised aspirations. As the first co-operation between Petroc and Monlau in this specific curriculum area the mobility has allowed both organisations to strengthen their existing relationship, given them the confidence to apply for and secure Erasmus+ funding in the 2016 call, and will act as a catalyst to expand such activity in the future.

In the case of Tourism Accommodation Management beneficiaries, the selected participants have completed daily tasks scheduled before the mobility by our teachers and the tutors of the host hotels. Activities were related to reception and reservations, protocol and public relations and specific terminology in English. Through this international experience, Tourism students have achieved, among other skills, being professionals with a good command of English (reflected in the level tests carried out before and after the mobility in the OLS platform), improve their skills in organizing tourist accommodation and applying pre-established business policies to achieve the objectives of the different departments involved in the client management and reservations process. With regard to technical profiles, as automotive and IT management, in order to achieve the programmed objectives, the activities were related to vehicle reception, maintenance and repair operations and, respectively, configuration, administration and maintenance of informatic systems. After the conclusion of the project the results of the internship program have been positive both quantitatively and qualitatively, reflected in the online surveys - with a high percentage of satisfactory responses from the participants and also in the materialization of job offers for the participants in the mobility, in the host countries. These results, which go beyond interinstitutional cooperation and skills acquisition during the period of Erasmus + mobility, provide long term quality training, based on the exchange of innovative methods and good practices, thus responding to the European and national market expectations."
