77 students of Zespół Szkół Chemicznych (Group of Technical Schools) of Ignacy Łukasiewicz in Bydgoszcz, who after their graduation will obtain or have already obtained the title of a qualified tourist technician, an environmental science and protection technician, a chemist analyst, a photo technician and digital graphics process technician. The participants implemented two-week internships in educational centers and companies in a diverse area (including their fields of study at school) in Spain, Italy and Germany. The trainees were second, third and fourth grade students (18 qualified tourist technicians, 1 environmental science and protection technician, 18 photo technicians, 18 digital graphic process technicians , 22 chemist analysts). The candidates declared their interest in acquiring and developing new professional competences as well as being open to transnational cooperation. This approach was demonstrated during the project implementation. At the stage of preparing the project application, the project objectives and the fields of education that will be represented by the students participating in the project were agreed with the transnational partners, taking into account the possible areas of Partners’ activity.During the development of the internship program for individual fields of study, the programs developed in consultation with the employers from the local labour market were taken into account (considering also the core curriculum of education). The participants were prepared for the internship in terms of relevant pedagogical issues, culture and language, as well as health and safety rules. The internship implementation in highly specialized training units and companies, based on a well-thought-out program agreed with partners, was an opportunity for young people to verify their already acquired knowledge and professional skills, and to acquire and improve key skills necessary to enter and function on the Polish and European labour market. The experience gained during the foreign internships was a chance to verify the way of thinking and to adopt the right, entrepreneurial attitude at the beginning of the students’ professional career. The main project objective was to support the transnational mobility of students studying in a technical school, to support their professional development and to use their knowledge and skills in practice, in a new professional environment, and to improve the quality of vocational education.During the project implementation, the elements of the European Credit System for Vocational Education were used by standardizing the documentation of individual achievements of students, both resulting from mobility placements and those carried out in the country. Thanks to the foreign internships, the participants learned about the procedures and standards applicable on the European labour market, improved their language skills, especially for vocational purposes, and increased their motivation to learn foreign languages. It has facilitated preparing them for getting a job, has strengthened the European dimension in vocational education and has encouraged students to acquire additional qualifications. The internships made the students sensitive to intercultural differences and aroused cognitive curiosity. The participants improved their adaptation skills in a new linguistically and culturally environment, developed the ability to work in a group, and improved the skills of creating their own professional development path. The sustainable project results are language skills, especially concerning vocational vocabulary, which, combined with mobility, will facilitate job search after leaving school in the local, national, but also European labour market. The school transnational cooperation enabled to try out innovative practices, supported students in gaining new skills and experience, contributed to the growth of professional competences and improvement of the quality of vocational education. The expansion of intercultural competences, improved language competences, and personal development contributed to the comprehensive preparation of young employees open to new challenges for the local labour market. The mobility implementation contributed not only to expanding the knowledge and skills of a specific group of young people, but also to the modernization of European education, training and youth systems. These activities are included in the Development Strategy for the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, the Development Strategy for Bydgoszcz, the Education Development Strategy for the City of Bydgoszcz for 2013-2020 and the School Development Concept for 2017-2020. The promotional activities and disseminating the results contributed to raising the prestige of the school in the local educational environment and on the local labour market. They also served as a mean to promote vocational education as a valuable and attractive development path for young people.
