Sevilla-Macarena Official School of Languages is a state language school for adults. The school is run by the regional education authority, Junta de Andalucía. English, French, German and Italian are taught and certified following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: from A1 to C1 levels. Over the last years there has been an increase in absenteeism and our enrolment numbers have not grown at our school. The teaching staff, via our Department for Counselling, Professional Development, Assessment and Educational Innovation have started to research the situation and become aware of the school’s need for training and innovation in certain areas. Thus setting as an objective teacher training activities for three participants; two teachers of English and teacher of French who is also the deputy head-teacher.The three teachers selected meet the selection criteria established by the Pedagogical Coordination Team to take part in this project (see project summary section in application form). The activities that have taken place are:• A job-shadowing activity in a language teaching centre for adults in France, focusing on strategies and tools to fight absenteeism and boost language learning. • Two teacher-training courses in the UK which contributed to updating language teaching methodology and hence to increasing student motivation. The Pedagogical Coordination Team and European institutions supervised the development of this project via e-mail before and during the mobilities. Also, the participants and partners reported on the learning that took place. After the mobilities, the dissemination stage took place through meetings between the participants and the Pedagogical Coordination Team. In these meetings the following decisions were taken: 1) to design a school policy to prevent absenteeism and dropouts. This policy should aim to support students as well as newly qualified teachers. 2) to boost teacher training and extracurricular activities in the school. 3) to implement a campaign to increase enrolment numbers and to improve information regarding the enrolment procedure. 4) to improve contacts with teachers from other countries. The whole process and its results have been disseminated inside the school digitally (school website, Erasmus + blog, Facebook and e-mail) as well as outside the school through activities organised with the Teacher Training Centre in Seville (CEP) in their III Jornadas de Exposición y Difusión de Proyectos Erasmus+ (5th June 2019). Regarding outcomes, an effort has been made to decrease dropout numbers (through teacher training and personalisation), to increase enrolment numbers thanks to new school approaches to promoting the school. • Locally and regionally we have tried to improve quality of teaching. • At a national and European level, the contact among teachers and institutions from different countries has been immensely beneficial, given that we are a language school. It is essential to understand teaching and learning as a life-long learning experience and by updating teaching skills and methodology we intend to improve the quality of teaching in our country so as to facilitate the integration of our students in Europe, break linguistic barriers and enable them to compete in the European job market.
