Background:The ERASMUS+ programme is an essential component of Furtwangen University’s internationalisation strategy. Furtwangen University is a university of applied sciences situated in the rural „Hochschwarzwald“(central Black Forest) region. It offers study programmes in the areas of technology, business, media and health sciences. The university’s international focus manifests itself in numerous ways, for example its 15% share of international students from around 90 nations, a number of English-taught study programmes as well as study programmes including a mandatory semester abroad.Aims: Furtwangen University’s declared goal is to achieve a high outgoings‘ quota. ERASMUS+ programme exchanges have an important part to play here. Integrated mobility windows aim to make studying abroad easier. As part of the ERASMUS+ programme it is also planned to increase the number of incoming students. We strive to achieve a balance between incomings and outgoings. Personnel development under the ERASMUS+ personnel-mobility is also an important goal. Number and Profile of Participants:For the project 2017 we were able to achieve 83 ERASMUS+ SMS mobilities, one STA ERASMUS+ mobility and eight STT ERASMUS+ mobilities.Description of Activities:For SMS mobilities, most students spent a semester at a partner university abroad; some spent two semesters, some were completing a double-degree. For STA mobility, the professor concerned offered guest lectures at a partner university and expanded the cooperation which already existed. For STT mobilities, staff normally spent 4-5 days, often as part of a staff week, at the partner university or a language institute in order to improve their expert and / or language skills and to liaise with colleagues from the partner universities. Result and Effects:ERASMUS+ is an essential tool for achieving the university’s internationalisation goals. It promotes both student and staff exchange and contributes immensely to furthering and expanding existing, often longstanding cooperation with partner universities.Participants in the mobility activities benefitted both by gaining expert knowledge, a wider outlook and improved language skills as well as a deeper understanding of other European countries and their mentalities. All in all ERASMUS+ significantly contributes to strengthening the European idea at Furtwangen University.
