The project is primarily aimed at student teachers in order to significantly strengthen both fields in a lasting way at school and to teach students vital future skills. The key strategy is integrating European topics into a beginner computer science course by centring computer science content, exercises and tasks around European topics and examples. The programming language used is Snap!, a block-based programming environment that is ideally suited for beginners also in elementary school as well as for complex tasks for students and thus broadly applicable in all disciplines. The Snap! introductory course is delivered online and in-person and is integrated into teacher training at Heidelberg University of Education and is offered at various locations of the European partners. In addition to teaching computer science content combined with knowledge about Europe, the courses are also designed to encourage living the European idea and building European cooperation. All courses and materials will be made freely accessible via a web platform. At least 20 courses with a minimum of 300 participants are planned across Europe. Another focus is building a network of different actors who support the combination of European topics and informatic content. In addition to networking via social media channels, two conferences will be organized in Heidelberg for in-depth discourse. The network partners will provide feedback and ideas for optimizing the course materials and enable sustainable implementation in teacher training and in schools. To ensure the quality of content regarding the computer science and European topics, the project is accompanied by Snap! inventor Jens Mönig (SAP) and Honorary Consul Prof. h.c. Dr. Karl A. Lamers.
