The project adopts a unique and interdisciplinary approach, integrating state-of-the-art data-driven technology with regional context (with a special focus on the most vulnerable areas in south and Mediterranean Europe including Spain, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and North Macedonia) through living labs to offer effective multi-target solutions and guideline to all stakeholders in LULUCF topics.

In recognition of the need for a truly multi-actor approach the team represents experts in atmospheric inverse modelling and data assimilation, remote sensing, environmental monitoring and observation, terrestrial ecosystem modelling, policy and stakeholder interaction together with national inventory compilers. AVENGERS builds upon the heritage of previous EU projects, in particular CHE, CoCO2 and VERIFY and will advance the top-down approach for quantifying GHG and aerosol emissions, as well as reconcile and integrate approaches into a joint bottom-up and top-down framework. Based on the reconciliation AVENGERS will prepare good-practice guidelines for use of atmospheric inverse models as well as develop a Flexible Inversion Tool for Inventory Compilers (FIT-IC). Knowledge and outcomes are provided of use for policy and societal stakeholders and replicable outside of our chosen target area (Europe with a focus on Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, and The Netherlands). The uniqueness of the consortium lies in the combination of the required scientific expertise with full partner presence of official reporting agencies from exemplary EU countries (Germany, Italy, Sweden, and The Netherlands) facilitating the transfer of knowledge to key international organizations (such as UNFCCC, WMO) in the field.

ARIADNEplus will build on the ARIADNE results, extending and supporting the research community that the previous project created and further developing the relationships with key stakeholders such as the most important European archaeological associations, researchers, heritage professionals, national heritage agencies and so on. The new enlarged partnership of ARIADNEplus covers all of Europe. It now includes leaders in different archaeological domains like palaeoanthropology, bioarchaeology and environmental archaeology as well as other sectors of archaeological sciences, including all periods of human presence from the appearance of hominids to present times. Transnational Activities together with the planned training will further reinforce the presence of ARIADNEplus as a key actor. The technology underlying the project is state-of-art. The ARIADNEplus data infrastructure will be embedded in a cloud that will offer the availability of Virtual Research Environments where data-based archaeological research may be carried out. The project will furthermore develop a Linked Data approach to data discovery. Innovative services will be made available to users, such as visualization, annotation, text mining and geo-temporal data management. Innovative pilots will be developed to test and demonstrate the innovation potential of the ARIADNEplus approach. Fostering innovation will be a key aspect of the project, with dedicated activities led by the project Innovation Manager.
more_vert assignment_turned_in ProjectPartners:CyI, CyICyI,CyIFunder: European Commission Project Code: 2018-1-CY01-KA103-046773Funder Contribution: 20,634 EUR•For 2018-2019, 11 mobilities and a budget of 21,010 euros was approved. CyI completed 12 mobilities (one mobility more than approved number) and within the budget 20,634 euros (470 euros less than the approved sum). This represents a 10% increase in mobility numbers and 17.5% of increase of budget, as compared to the statistics of 2017-2018. •The objective of the year was to keep on offering the mobility opportunity to more students and staff, who otherwise don't have the chance to go abroad for learning. . •The modality of the student mobility was confined to traineeships. CyI started for the first time a Master's course of 14-18 month duration, hence its students were unable to take advantage of the mobility during the limited study period. PhD students were eligible for the study mobility, but spending more than three months outside of their labs and workshops was difficult due to their involvement in research activities. •On the other hand, the student mobility for traineeship was carried out in four different countries: France (2), Italy (1), UK (1). •For the staff mobility, there were eight participants - one combined teaching and training mobility and seven training mobility. All were carried out successfully. •All participants rated their mobility experience very highly and indicated that they had received an adequate support from all parties involved, especially from CyI. •The CyI Erasmus Committee took a more active role in screening and selecting applications, not just evaluating application forms, but also providing advice on how to fill in the form, weighting their training needs and identifying ideal host organizations. All committee members were also briefed by the Office of Graduate Studies whenever issues related to the monitoring and implementation arose and they provided their comments and recommendations. •CyI had the Erasmus Spot-check on 23 July, 2019. It is noted that the program operates in adherence to the EC regulations. The visit team provided very useful guidelines and insights on how to improve some procedural weaknesses. •CyI applied for KA107 call in February 2019 and secured one project with the American University of Beirut.

More than a driving process, the collaborative work on planning and making NBS functional might stimulate a more concerted response towards environmental and climate crises, increasing the commitment of different stakeholders and upscaling their own spheres of action. TRANS-lighthouses adopts a non-linear perspective and opens up space for the adoption of a fluid and organic position that is able to integrate the diversity of subjects, institutions, knowledge(s), practices and values. TRANS-lighthouses’ ambition is to become a European reference on socio-political challenges for supporting NBS projects and solutions. The socio-politics dimension will be part of the public agenda for NBS towards SYSTEMIC CHANGE. This ambition will be achieved by assessing the benefits and limitations of NBS co-creation that have already been implemented and designed, tested and disseminated economically and socially fairer guidelines for NBS implementation. For this purpose, the project will conduct a thorough assessment, grounded on a transdisciplinary approach and critical analysis. Constituting a well-oiled network of citizens, local governments, scientific institutions and civil society-based partners which acts across borders, disciplines and sectors, TRANS-lighthouses will lead research on activities aiming to implement socioeconomic and political changes capable of enabling pathways for a socially and ecologically just implementation of NBS. TRANS-lighthouses integrates a network of NBS lighthouses for urban, rural, coastal and forested areas in 10 EU countries and 6 non-EU.
