With a history of more than 55 years of activity in higher education, the University of Pitesti is currently an institution that plays an important role in the local economic, social and cultural life and at the level of the South-Muntenia Region, ensuring free access to a modern education, in line with the realities of the European socio-economic environment. For the University of Pitesti, the internationalization of its activity is a strategic priority assumed by certain objectives included in the Strategic Plan, such as: increasing the number of beneficiaries of internationalized studies, developing strategic international partnerships, increasing the number of agreements and the participation of university staff in academic and international mobilities. The actions carried out by project no. 2016-2-RO01-KA107-035269, Erasmus + project, Key Action 1 (learning mobility of individuals) also subscribed to this purpose. Within this project, with a 16-month duration and 2 partners from participating countries (Romania, Egypt), there have been performed 1 student mobility actions for studies, 8 staff mobility actions for teaching purposes (incoming), 2 staff mobility actions for teaching purposes (outgoing). The project aimed to promote the European dimension in higher education at quality standards, through the mobility of students and university staff, the improvement of study programs and the collaboration between institutions. By implementing the mobility provided in the project, the university has considered the following priorities:- a unitary approach to the internationalization of its activity;- identification of the areas of study with potential for internationalization;- formation/development of the staff’s and students’ communication skills in an international language by participating in specific training programs;- cooperation in all areas of university activity;- increasing the number of mobility in correlation with the absorption of the allocated funds.Throughout the project, actions to promote the benefits of mobility were carried out, appropriate partnerships were strengthened, developing exchanges of best practice. The most important results focused on the identification of common research topics, the compatibility of the unbridled curriculum, the innovation of teaching-learning-evaluation practices and methodologies. The University of Pitesti has clear institutional mechanisms for disseminating the results of the project by highlighting them on its own web platforms, through the Social Media pages, through the regular organization of the Erasmus International Weeks where all the mobility participants from all partner countries meet. There is also an online magazine which aims to promote international events held in the university. The University of Pitesti organized a series of dissemination and promotion activities throughout the project. Among these, Erasmus + Open Doors (Erasmus + Weeks) is the most important one. International Relations Office visited each department of the university, having meetings with teachers and students. Dissemination and promotion materials for the project were shared, discussing on the objectives and results of the project. These activities were followed by a testimonial session. In addition, the activities aimed at getting suggestions for the development of the project activity and the international relations, as the participants the potential participants’ wishes, desires and proposals are very important for us.During the project, actions to promote the benefits of mobility were carried out, and the appropriate partnerships for the institutional structure of the participating universities were strengthened. The participants' selection was meant to ensure transparency and fair treatment, counselling activities were carried out beforehand, during the mobility and after its completion, the periods of mobility were recognized and the results were disseminated. Project impact assessment activities were carried out in order to substantiate future decisions from the point of view of ensuring the quality and improvement of the university's activities based on the knowledge of its functioning. Evaluation was a tool that provided feedback on the impact on participants (from personal and professional development perspectives), on their strengths and weaknesses to ensure diagnostic value and the adoption of improvement decisions.

    Funder Contribution: 318,120 EUR

University of Pitesti is a multidisciplinary university that integrates academic areas with such profiles as engineering, socio-human, sports, exact sciences, artistic and medical. The strategic goal of the University of Pitesti consists of the continued growth of institutional management performance, of the educational and scientific research processes, in view of an integration in the European region of higher education. The pursuit of the 17-year tradition of international cooperation through mobility programs at the University of Pitesti is to be found within the Erasmus+ program, Key Action 1 (learning mobility of individuals), project no. 2014-1-RO01-KA103-000245. Within this project with a 16-month duration, in which there were involved 37 partners in countries participating in the program (France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria, Turkey), there have been implemented 72 student learning mobilities, 30 student traineeship mobilities (work placements), 42 staff teaching mobilities and 30 staff mobility actions for training purposes. The project aimed to contribute to the development of competences and vocational insertion capacity by providing opportunities for education and training at quality standards. For this purpose, and in accordance with the principles of the Erasmus University Charter, the University of Pitesti took into account the following objectives:- maintaining, developing and diversifying the relations of collaboration with partner universities;- promoting the image of the university at the international level;- establishing new study programs in international languages;- internationalizing the current curriculum, improving the study programs;- using the Erasmus+ activities for developing the educational offer;- increasing the number of mobility in correlation with funds absorption;- encouraging mobility for master and doctorate cycles;- strengthening the relevance of the Erasmus+ activities in the quality evaluation of the university. All activities carried out in the project were aimed at the best possible organization and performance of mobilities (promotion of the program and of the university identity, accessible information in connection with opportunities for mobility, assurance of partnerships appropriate to the institutional character of the university, a selection which ensured equal opportunities and transparency, preparation of the participants, tutoring and monitoring during the entire mobility and after its completion, academic recognition and validation of the periods of study and/or training, dissemination of the results obtained, assessment with demonstration of the impact on the participants, the value added to their evolution). To ensure the diagnostic value of the project, the assessment was targeted both at the effects on the participants (the contribution to the personal and professional development) and at the way in which the program functions in the university, with the identification of strengths and weaknesses. For example, the impact of the implementation of the Regulation concerning the recognition of periods of study and/or placement carried out by students in the Erasmus+ mobility was positively reflected in the increase of transparency and compatibility between the programs of studies and professional qualifications and in facilitating attractiveness and accessibility to mobility, which has led to an increase in the number of participants. As a result of an extensive process of consultation with the academic community as a whole and in accordance with the national strategy, there have been placed the bases of the institutional strategy for internationalisation, which proposes concrete actions to increase the sustainability of the results of the Erasmus+ mobility within the university. The sustainability of the project results from the expertise gained in maintaining lasting partnerships on performance areas in the university (engineering, sport, medical care). The participation rate has been an indicator of success, the program has had continuity in university for 17 years, from the time of its deployment in Romania and the number of participants in mobility has increased from year to year. Transferability of the project results has been visible as participants have transposed in their training or professional work the acquisitions from the period of mobility. Thus, participants in mobility actions for studies have been integrated on their return in didactic and administrative activities within the university, or the quality criterion of participation in international mobility has been included in institutional evaluation. With enhanced performance, as a result of the experience gained and of the results obtained during the implementation of the project, to each call for proposals for projects, the University of Pitesti will apply primarily for mobility projects.
