Project Code: UID/Multi/04019/2013Funder Contribution: 60,000 EURHorizon 2020 identifies three priorities: programmes that promote “Scientific Excellence,” the creation of industrial leadership, and the creation of projects that meet societal challenges. Thus, the Programme is aimed at promoting the mutual integration of knowledge produced in the Research Units, and the surrounding social structures. All research should be applied, or applicable in practice, since it is not practical to invest in proposals that dissociate themselves from the social-economical context of the present. Research should be thought of along with and in order to serve society. The final report presented to the European Parliament on the Horizon 2020 underlines the importance of two areas, that should be privileged as far as Portugal is specifically concerned: the Sea, and the Cultural Legacy. Considering these priorities, according to the report, “will foster an increase in the participation of Portugal in the decisions and policies for Horizon 2020, and allow for the greatest benefits enclosed therein.” The report further highlights the relevance of Humanities and of Social Sciences as necessary pillars of the integration of society in the field of research, and of research within society. The world tendency for renovation of the interest in Human and Social Sciences reaffirms the work we have developed since the creation of the CIAC, in 2008. In our understanding, research has always been used in the spreading of knowledge, whether through advanced training supported by the Centre, or through the many platforms that promote the recovery, archive, and dissemination of the Cultural Legacy and of Science. The naming of the Centre reflects our lines of action – Arts and Communication: the arts, in their manifold aspects and applications, and communication, which necessarily implies literacies and the links between the Centre, the University, and the local, national, and international communities. In the field of advanced training, the PhD in Communication, Culture and Arts was created, to welcome artists and researchers from different parts of the country, and, more recently, from Brazil and other countries of Latin America. We furthermore support the creation of the PhD in Digital Media-Arte, through an agreement between Algarve University and Universidade Aberta (Open University). This course brought us new researchers developing their work in the fields of applications and computer programmes. Researchers in the CIAC also link the Centre to the PhD in Legacy of Portuguese Influence (Coimbra University). In the field of artistic creation, several members of the CIAC are renowned artists in the visual and/or performative arts, and some of the projects of the Centre contemplate the fusion of research with artistic practices. One of the projects developed in the logic of knowledge diffusion, a partnership between the Centre and EDP Foundation, aims at creating a platform to fill a serious lack in the diffusion of the artistic legacy of the last 30 years, inside and outside Portugal, through the identification, cataloguing, and publication of this legacy. EDP Foundation is greatly supportive of this project, and accepted to act as consulting, and to make all their material, as well as specialised technicians, available to follow up the project head start. At a second stage, the Foundation will supply financial support to produce audio-visual material to be included in the platform. The project developed with the sponsorship of Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian is in the same line of knowledge diffusion – to build a platform for dissemination of the largest Portuguese archive of the “Romanceiro” (Literatures of Oral Tradition). The “Archive of the ‘Romanceiro’ of Modern Oral Tradition” was donated to the CIAC; through the above mentioned project, it will be available in the Crossmedia Platform, a cornerstone of the Centre itself. Traditional literature is a part of Humanity’s Immaterial Legacy. Narratives in prose and in verse sum up the ethics and the aesthetics of a civilisation punctuated by a number of constant features. These texts evince a form of expression of the natural rights of peoples, their habits and regulations, their principles, rights, and duties; frontiers between what is said and what should go unsaid, as well as a vast set of social practices mirror themselves in these literary creations – it is our civic to keep and to spread them. These two examples, as all other projects of the CIAC, share a common axis: to bring technology and science together with the arts and the spreading of knowledge, in order to give back to society what it once, and even now produces. One other fundamental fulcrum in the strategy of the CIAC is the link to other Centres, in other areas of knowledge, in Portugal (CIMA, DINAMIA, CHAIA, CLP, CIEO, IELT) and in other countries, such as Brazil, Spain, France, Belgium, Colombia, Mozambique, and Cape Verde, through international projects, and agreements. General Objectives describes on-going projects, through which the tendency can be verified, to always operate in the search for the confluence between research, training, and creation, among different areas within research, and among research lines in the Centre. The CIAC is organised in three branches; the headquarters, at Algarve University, has worked in a number of projects with municipalities and various other associations. The CIAC will continue to grow within the previsions at its inception, in 2008; meanwhile, it has harboured new forces, distributed along three joining lines, which gather all our production: Archive and Memory, Production of Digital Artefacts, and Literacies. These strategic lines are aimed at corresponding to the initial, guiding purpose of the CIAC: to innovate research in the field of the arts and of communication, promoting authentic literacies through training, and through the production and distribution of materials. O Programa-Quadro Horizonte 2020 identifica 3 prioridades: programas que promovam a “Excelência Científica”, a criação de liderança industrial e a criação de projetos que respondam aos desafios societais. O Programa pretende, assim, promover a integração entre os saberes produzidos nas Unidades I&D e o tecido social envolvente. Toda a investigação deverá ser aplicada ou aplicável, pois não é viável investir em propostas dissociadas do atual quadro socioeconómico. A investigação deve ser pensada com e para a sociedade. Deste modo o relatório final apresentado ao Parlamento Europeu sobre o Horizonte 2020 ressalta a importância de duas áreas que devem ser privilegiadas no que diz respeito, especificamente, a Portugal: o Mar e a Herança Cultural. A inclusão destas prioridades, conforme a relatora, “permitirá aumentar a participação de Portugal no Horizonte 2020 e tirar deste programa os benefícios que ele encerra". O relatório sublinha ainda a importância da área das Humanidades e Ciências Sociais, pois estas são o suporte necessário para a integração da sociedade no campo da investigação e da investigação no seio da sociedade. A tendência mundial de renovado interesse pelas Ciências Humanas e Sociais servem para reafirmar o trabalho que vimos a desenvolver desde a criação do CIAC em 2008. Para nós a investigação sempre foi aplicada à distribuição do conhecimento, seja através da formação avançada, suportada pelo Centro, seja através das diversas plataformas que promovem a recuperação, o arquivo e a disseminação da Herança Cultural e das Ciências. A escolha do nome do Centro reflete o nosso programa de ação – Artes e Comunicação: as artes nas suas diversas vertentes e aplicações e a comunicação que implica, necessariamente, as literacias e a criação de pontes entre o Centro, a Universidade e as comunidades regionais, nacionais e internacionais. No campo da formação avançada criámos o Doutoramento em Comunicação, Cultura e Artes que tem recebido artistas e investigadores de diversas partes do país e, mais recentemente, diversos investigadores do Brasil e da América Latina em geral. Além deste doutoramento, apoiámos a criação, através de um Protocolo entre a Universidade do Algarve e a Universidade Aberta, do Doutoramento em Media-Arte Digital. Este curso trouxe ao CIAC novos investigadores que estão a desenvolver pesquisa na área das aplicações e programas. O CIAC, através de seus investigadores, está ligado ainda ao Doutoramento em Património de Influência Portuguesa, da Universidade de Coimbra. No campo da criação artística, vários dos membros do CIAC são artistas reconhecidos nas artes visuais e/ou performativas e alguns dos projetos do Centro contemplam a fusão da investigação e das práticas artísticas. Na lógica da difusão do conhecimento, um dos projetos desenvolvidos pelo Centro, em parceria com a Fundação EDP, pretende criar uma plataforma que vai responder a uma falha grave na difusão do património artístico dos últimos 30 anos, dentro e fora do país, através da identificação, catalogação e divulgação desta memória cultural. A Fundação EDP apoia-nos vivamente e aceitou ser nossa consultora e disponibilizar todo o seu material, bem como pessoal técnico especializado para acompanhar o arranque do projeto. Numa segunda fase a Fundação vai dar-nos apoio financeiro, para a produção do material audiovisual que ficará patente na plataforma. Outro trabalho, na mesma linha de difusão de conhecimento, é o projeto que está a ser desenvolvido, com o apoio da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian - a construção de uma plataforma para a disseminação do maior arquivo que existe no país sobre o Romanceiro (Literaturas de Tradição Oral). O Arquivo do Romanceiro de Tradição Oral Moderna foi doado ao CIAC e, através do projeto supramencionado, tornar-se-á acessível à comunidade na Plataforma Crossmedia, um dos projetos bases do próprio centro. A literatura tradicional, que faz parte do património imaterial da humanidade, através das narrativas, tanto em verso como em prosa, sintetiza a ética e a estética de uma civilização marcada por uma série de constantes. Transparece nestes textos uma forma de expressão do direito natural dos seus povos, dos seus costumes e regras, princípios, direitos e deveres; os limites entre dito e o interdito, bem como um vastíssimo conjunto de práticas sociais vêem-se refletidas nestas criações literárias que temos, por dever cívico, preservar e difundir. Estes são apenas 2 exemplos de projetos que, como todos os projetos do CIAC, partilham um eixo: unir as tecnologias e a ciência, às artes e à difusão do conhecimento para devolvermos à sociedade, aquilo que ela outrora, ou ainda hoje, produz. Outro ponto fundamental na estratégia do CIAC é a ponte que tem sido estabelecida com Centros de outras áreas de conhecimento em Portugal (CIMA, DINAMIA, CHAIA, CLP, CIEO, IELT) e noutros países, como o Brasil, Espanha, França, Bélgica, Colômbia, Moçambique e Cabo Verde, através de projetos internacionais e de protocolos. Nos Objetivos Gerais estão descritos os projetos em curso, através dos quais poderá ser comprovada esta tendência de trabalhar na confluência entre investigação, formação e criação, entre áreas diversas dentro da investigação e entre as linhas de investigação do próprio centro. Estamos organizados em 3 polos, e a sede do centro, localizada na UALg, tem investido numa série de projetos com câmaras municipais e associações diversas integradas no tecido regional circundante. O CIAC vai continuar a desenvolver-se dentro daquilo que foi previsto aquando da sua criação em 2008 e acolheu novas valências que serão distribuídas em 2 linhas agregadoras de toda a nossa produção: "Teatro e Performance" e "Artes e Humanidades Digitais". Estas linhas estratégicas pretendem responder ao propósito inicial que orientou a formação do CIAC: inovar a investigação no campo das artes e da comunicação, promovendo, através da formação, produção e difusão de materiais, autênticas literacias.

It is consistent with the values our educa-tional project relies on :- Create the conditions for success;- Guarantee equal opportunities;- Develop the culture of exchange and of speech.To succeed, we rely on an intermediary partner (a training center of the same field) that helps us to identify host companies.The host company appoints a referee who integrates, trains and assesses the student. It also proposes tasks that are related to the reference document of the diploma.We select and prepare young people. A teacher settles the student in the company and assesses him/her at the end of the stay.We are doing everything possible to maintain our project over time:• High school board commitment ;• Administrative and financial organization;• Staff training;• Management tools;• Partnership with companies and professional sectors;• Communication.Quantitative assessmentWe allowed 85 learners to have a work experience abroad. We realized 99% of the convention.Quality assessmentWhen they came back, students shared their impressions:- Personal construction and learning of autonomy;- Cultural and professional discovery;- Friendly meetings- Unforgettable experience and adaptation;- Overcoming apprehensions and confronting professional practices;- Enhancement of French savoir-faire;- Desire to move again.For the learners, mobility has allowed them to look at their job from a different perspective. Learners discov-ered themselves in a reputed job respected abroad. They came back with a fresh look at their course choice. They became aware of the meaning of European citizenship. Moreover, we note that at the end of their training, some of them do a series of missions in foreign countries. Beyond the technical skills, human relations have developed. They have kept links with young people from the host countries and are ready to receive them back. This experience thus reinforces their employability at the end of the training.These elements can be found in the analysis of the participants’ reports.The most important part of the certification of the vocational baccalaureate or BTEC consisted in taking the Europasss and the mobility exam . The Europass were given during an official ceremony in the presence of our partners.At the linguistic level, the learners have become familiar with the vocabulary that is specific to the job. They have improved their English very much. For some of them, who had a low level of English, this experience made them realize the importance of mastering this language to consolidate their integration.Project impacts on the environmentParents noticed their children’s new confidence and changing behaviour (more open-minded and more mature).Advantages have emerged. Employers who had agreed to let their apprentices leave are also surprised by the changes. In the field of the hotel trade and restaurant industry, for example, apprentices know how to highlight French gastronomy and French savoir-faire.To succeed, we established relationships with training centers from the same business sector. We chose com-plementary countries in terms of culture, history and economy.Our partners perfectly met our expectations:• Look for companies with the capacity to receive one or two young students for 3 weeks;• Suggest solutions for accommodation;• Suggest cultural activities for the days off;• Welcome a lecturer at the beginning and at the end of the 3 weeks;• help the learner to build relationships;• Be a representative on-site in case of difficulties.ConclusionThe diversity of countries encourages a greater sense of adaptation at the level of the organization but their complementarity remains the strength of our project.Our project is a collective project that allows us to adapt to the constant changing of trades and to new teach-ing methods in a globalized economy. It brings a dynamic into a teaching team; it also enlists learners who do not leave and widens our relations with employers.We are fully part of a sectorial, local, regional and national context. Communication on this project strengthens our image and adds value to our training offer.
