"University Development Programme for the years 2014-2020, defines mission of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (UWM). The mission of UWM is to carry out diverse activities with the aim of educating highly qualified graduates and scientific staff, to carry out scientific research responding to the needs of the region’s economy and to enrich the national culture. One of the strategic goal is also the internationalization of the University in the areas of education and research. The program of actions, aiming to achieve this goal include, among others, promotion and popularization of national and international mobility programs for students and doctoral students, as well as participation in international educational projects, which include project ""Mobilność edukacyjna w sektorze szkolnictwa wyższego między krajami programu"" which University was the beneficiary. The main object of the project was to support students and staff international mobility. University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn has received funding for the realization of the project activities, in the amount of 376 835 EUR, to implement the following activities: mobility of students to study in the programme countries (97 mobile participants), mobility of students to do an internships in the programme countries (54 mobile participants), mobility of academics staff for the programme countries (41 mobile participants), staff mobility for training for the programme countries (20 mobile participants). Total planned mobility was 212, and the executed mobility was 225. Among the 95 students, who have been studied in the programme countries, 16 of them received zero funding from the Erasmus+ Programme, because their mobility was funded by the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development (PO WER) and among 68 students, who have taken part in Erasmus+ internships, 8 of them was funded by the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development (PO WER). A lot of students, like in the previous year, took part in internships under Erasmus+ Programme because it was possible to did an internship also for recent graduates. The total number of completed students internships was 68 (including 25 internships for recent graduates). The most popular destination, chosen by the students who wanted to continue their studies abroad was Germany (29 mobile participants) and Spain (27 mobile participants), while the most popular destination chosen by students who wanted to do an internship abroad was Germany (17 mobile participants) and Spain (13 mobile participants). The average length of stay was 6,5 months for study and 2,5 months for internship.62 mobility (including 20 for staff training) of 61 scheduled mobility have been done by employees of UWM in the academic year 2016/2017. Due to the relatively high travel expenses for some mobility, it was necessary to relocate funds from the category of organizational support in the amount of 290 EUR.The most popular destinations chosen by employees were: Spain (15 mobile participants) and Germany (10 mobile participants). The average length of stay was 3 days for academic teachers and 3,6 days for staff training.According to the guidelines, the largest group of employees who took part in Erasmus+ Programme were young researchers who took part in the Programme for the first time."

The COSMOS proposal aims to reduce Europe’s dependence on imported coconut and palm kernel oils and fatty acids and castor oil as sources for medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA, C10–C14) and medium-chain polymer building blocks. These are needed by the oleochemical industry for the production of plastics, surfactants, detergents, lubricants, plasticisers and other products. In COSMOS, camelina and crambe will be turned into profitable, sustainable, multipurpose, non-GMO European oil crops for the production of oleochemicals. Seed properties will be screened and optimised through genetic techniques aiming at high yield, low resource inputs, optimization of the value generated from vegetative tissues and fatty acid profiles adapted to industrial needs. Large-scale field trials will be performed at different locations in Europe to assess the potential of the crops in terms of cultivation practices, seed yield, oil content, ease of harvesting, and resource inputs. Extracted oils will be fractionated into various fatty acid types (monounsaturated versus polyunsaturated) by selective enzyme technologies and extraction processes. The monounsaturated long-chain fatty acids so obtained will be converted to MCFA and high-value building blocks for bio-plastics and flavour and fragrance ingredients through chemical and enzymatic chain cleavage processes. The ω3-rich PUFA fraction will be purified for use in food and feed ingredients. Vegetative tissues such as straw, leaves and press cake will be fed to insects producing high-value proteins, chitin and fats. Insect fats and proteins will be isolated and prepared for use in food and feed products. The overall economic, social and environmental sustainability as well as life cycle of the whole value chain will be assessed. The impact of the project for Europe will be assessed in terms of value chain potentials for value creation and number of jobs that can be created.
