Our shared objective is to enhance the energy sector by integrating intelligent Internet of Things (IoT) devices into vital energy infrastructure, including power plants, pipelines, and wind turbines. Through this collaboration, we aim to improve the efficiency and resilience of the Electrical Power and Energy System (EPES) while minimizing operational redundancies and errors. A key focus of our partnership is the establishment of a unified and sustainable OT/IT ecosystem. This entails effectively merging various datasets, energy consumption insights, and computing capabilities to support advanced analytics. This represents a significant step toward bridging the divide between Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT), resulting in a more robust energy system poised for efficiency gains. IPTO's contribution to this initiative is instrumental. As an experienced energy operator, they provide valuable insights and expertise, ensuring that the solutions developed within the GLACIATION project are not only theoretically sound but also practical and effective in real-world energy operations. In return, IPTO gains access to cutting-edge research and technology, aligning with their mission to advance smarter substations and data-driven energy management capabilities. In summary, the "GLACIPTO Hop-On" proposal signifies a joint commitment to improve the energy sector, fostering innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable energy management.

We believe that a solution incorporating the strengths of these two approaches will be able to overcome their individual limitations, namely lack of involvement of private actors, transparency and trust for “top-down” and lack of sustainability, accountability, and legitimacy for “bottom-up” initiatives. To enable this, INTERLINK will provide a set of digital building blocks, called “Interlinkers”, that implement the defined governance model and standardize the basic functionalities needed to enable private actors to co-operate in the delivery of a service (organization, communication, scheduling, monitoring, etc.). In this way, the new shared service will maintain the effectiveness of digital solutions adopted in grassroots initiatives to support self-organization and make collective decisions, and at the same time fulfill the technical and legal requirements necessary for adoption by Public Administrations (PAs). The INTERLINK multidisciplinary consortium will deliver the new governance model and Interlinkers within a technological framework and operational platform based on an open software system leveraging on mobile communications, facilitating the co-production of services between PAs and private stakeholders. The solution will be customised, deployed and evaluated on three use-cases within the partner PAs: the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Latvian Ministry of Regional Development, and the City of Zaragoza. Lessons learned in the three use-cases will be generalized to deliver a re-usable solution across Europe.

However, ensuring efficiency, speed and continuity in screening and detection tasks remains yet a challenge. Currently, custom, police and courier authorities involve a range of screening systems in place but there is still much to do in terms of detection efficacy and creation of intelligence towards risk and threat identification. On top of that, criminals or smugglers exploit the multitude of flows and easily spot security gaps that allow parcels or letters to be transported within or across EU with relative ease. To overcome these constraints, iFLOWS proposes a unique approach to assist customs, police and postal/courier services in preventing and detecting such crimes by improving operational readiness, enhancing situation awareness, reducing detection time, providing operational efficiency and achieving superior mission performance. iFLOWS will design, develop, integrate, test and validate a novel multi-tier synergistic Toolkit in enhancing intelligence extraction, screening and detection operations of illicit material and hazardous substances within courier and postal flows moving across and within EU borders. iFLOWS works upon these 3 building blocks to deliver a) a tailored to such operations C4I that boosts preparedness and cooperation be-tween police, customs and courier/postal services, b) enhanced Intelligence in terms of threats, risks and suspicious flows and c) novel detection technologies (i.e. THz Scanning system and UWB Scanner) featuring enhanced detection capabilities over a large span of illicit material and substances, which, coupled with advanced image-based feature extraction in combination to legacy systems (e.g. X-Ray and Raman) optimise the detection process without interrupting the postal/courier flows.
