New resistance mechanisms are emerging and spreading globally, threatening our ability to treat common infectious diseases. A project commissioned by the British government has released estimates of the near-future global toll of antibiotic resistance: 10 million deaths per year, more than cancer, and at least 124 trillion euros in sacrificed gross national product. Without urgent prevention and risk management actions, we are heading for a post-antibiotic era, in which common infections and minor injuries would kill. Following WHO Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance and the UN Heads of State political declaration on antimicrobial resistance, Indian and European policy makers has designed framework national plans fighting antibiotics resistance. PREVENT IT consortium has conducted a preliminary study that has highlight an alarming deficiency of academic modules on antibiotics prevention and risk management, and a total absence of awareness in the Indian society. As response, PREVENT IT plans to I) permanently introduce interdisciplinary curricula on antibiotics resistance - prevention and risk management – in per-existent studies programs – differentiating students’ target audience; II) Disseminate as open educational resource, a MOOC for students, health sciences experts, and civil society organizations working with health in rural communities; II) Conduct nine regional dissemination events; III) Involve new stakeholders with the organization - in different area of India - of sixteen workshops and one symposium; IV) Create social media campaign to increase awareness in Indian society; V) To ensure sustainability, Lab for regular training in projects’ proposals design. VI) During the last month of the funded period, to provide new impetus: establish the European-Indian Network for Antibiotics Resistance Prevention and Risk Management.

Many development cooperation interventions are related directly to ICT infrastructure (Digital India, for example) or to the provision of online course content. Few projects have addressed the need to support HEI to utilise ICT infrastructure and online course content, and to enable leadership and staff to do so, in a cross-instituional way (one of the purpose of strategies). Working on this issue in an international consortium of partners, in the context of Erasmus+, will help in shaping quality standards for Indian online course content and elearning approaches, innovate teaching and learning practices/pedagogy via e-learning and build capacity of teachers across partner institutions to use elearning and ICT tools. MIELES is thus designed to provide a collaborative platform to address a relevant issue for the development, reform, democratization and modernization of the higher education system in India and to reinforce Indian-EU higher education collaboration.

Technology has evolved to a point where humans from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences have an unprecedented ability to connect with each other. Yet technology does not in-and-by-itself provide support for developing and maintaining the social relationships that transcend geographical and cultural backgrounds. WeNet addresses this gap by providing a diversity-aware, machine-mediated paradigm of social relations. The goal is connecting people that can support each other, and the key is leveraging their diversity. The WeNet paradigm includes a family of computational diversity-aware models supporting human interaction. Learning models construct diversity profiles based on people's past behaviour and interactions. A diversity-aware search builds upon these profiles to connect the "right" people together. To support people’s interactions, a diversity alignment mechanism lifts communication barriers to ensure that messages between humans are interpreted correctly, and a diversity-aware incentive mechanism generates incentives to motivate people to support each other. The entire paradigm is developed taking into consideration ethical guidelines. The WeNet platform provides the technological infrastructure to set out a series of studies that will be carried within universities worldwide with diverse student populations, and with the final goal of improving students' quality of life inside and outside the academic environment. Beyond universities, WeNet's innovative paradigm impacts human interactions in general, especially those that may benefit from a collaborative approach (creative industries, medical diagnosis, ...). The WeNet consortium will develop a research infrastructure that will allow the exploitation of the project results and strengthen the European innovation eco-system in a worldwide perspective.
