94% of ammonia (NH3) emissions in Europe stem from agriculture. Thus, EU has created a Directive, forcing exploitations to assume important costs for properly manage the excretions generated as a daily basis. The market opportunity for Biogas Plants, to apply local innovative business models with a low-cost affordable solution, to biogas digestate, reducing environmental risks transforming it into Ammonia Sulphate (NH4)2SO4. This is an expensive product nowadays, that could be monetized through fertilizers manufacturers, thus generating a second business opportunity while boosting a circular economy. AMBIENCE consists of a low-cost close-loop physical system based on a novel and highly efficient technology of permeable membranes that capture the ammonia in between 70% - 80%, from the emissions (liquid and gas) generated by animal waste and pig farms, and biogas plants’ digestants. AMBIENCE delivers a processed ammonia (NH3) turned into Ammonia Sulphate (NH4)2SO4, prepared to be easily treated by fertilizers manufacturers reducing farmers’ operational costs by means of both savings and new incomes achieved (+60%) by applying this innovative revalorisation business model. If all the farming and stock sectors would apply AMBIENCE solution more than 65% of ammonia worldwide emissions would be avoided. Phase 1 objectives is to accelerate the market adoption and international penetration of AMBIENCE focus on preparing ourselves for the commercialization of at the international level (including route-tomarket, marketing strategy, growth strategy, etc.) by evolving the product from TRL6 to TRL9 stage As a result of this project, AMBIENCE will grow considerably, generating 35 new qualified jobs by five years after the project ending and generating incomes of 46.8 M€ and a EBITDA of 21 M€ approx by 2024.

On average, each European citizen produces approximately 200 kg of municipal biowaste per year, representing between 118 and 138 million tonnes of biowaste annually arising in the EU. The main municipal biowaste management systems currently existing in Europe represent one-way flow systems in which materials and resources are underused, limiting its potential recovery into high-value products. VALUEWASTE proposes an integrated approach in urban biowaste upcycling for the production of high-value biobased products, developing the first complete solution to fully valorise biowaste that can be replicated across Europe. We will implement three new value chains that will use urban biowaste as raw material for its valorisation into high-value end products in a cascading process, generating economic, social and environmental benefits: food & feed proteins and other ingredients, and biobased fertiliser. VALUEWASTE will be developed at two very different European locations, Murcia (ES) and Kalundborg (DK) with the purpose of finding a solution both technical and socially adapted to the different socio-economic contexts exiting across Europe. Social initiatives will be created to increase consumer awareness and acceptance of urban biowaste-derived products. End-user products applications and new market opportunities will be demonstrated. Outcomes of the project will contribute to new standardisation, and will be useful information for EU policy makers in terms of waste management and in the adoption of new policies.

ECOLOOP project develops and demonstrates a set of solutions to optimise the combination of different energy distributed sources (biogas, biomass, agri-PV, geothermal), meeting the local needs for electricity, heating, cooling, transport and waste and land management in rural areas, fostering regional development and creating benefits for farmers and foresters. The project solutions will focus on promoting the reduction of carbon footprint in rural areas by means of the higher penetration of distributed renewable energy sources, self-consumption and an optimal agricultural/forest waste management, while creating positive effects in biodiversity and soil health and reducing the risk on groundwater contamination. Following this approach, ECOLOOP objectives are: • To optimise the production of biogas from agriculture and forestry wastes in situ. • To combine in an efficient and sustainable way different distributed renewable energy sources (biogas, biomass, agri-PV, geothermal), meeting the local needs for electricity, heating, cooling, transport and waste and land management in rural areas. • To develop innovative renewable-based agricultural protocols and advance bioproducts to increase sustainability and circularity while creating positive effects on biodiversity and soil health and groundwater pollution. • To foster regional development in rural areas. ECOLOOP project will move towards a circular economy in rural areas, focusing on agriculture and forestry sectors, contributing to job creation, gender equality, biodiversity and climate resilience and adaptation. All the benefits provided by ECOLOOP solutions will be demonstrated in 4 pilot sites in Spain, Estonia, Bulgaria and Slovenia, involving different forest and agriculture natural conditions (climate, soils), size and types of crops trees, management techniques, degree of mechanisation, geographic location and socio-economic factors, and considering the interaction of different types of energy sources.
