In 2012, an estimated 6.7 million new cases of cancer were diagnosed in adults aged 65 years and older, representing 47.5% of the total number of new cancer cases worldwide while 8% of the world population in that time was aged 65 years and older. On the other side, increasing age and comorbidities are often associated with a discriminant lower use of aggressive cancer therapies, as well as a higher neglection for their preferences in health‐related quality of life (HRQOL) care support. To address the above, LifeChamps delivers a novel, context-aware and large-scale analytics framework capable of delivering multi-dimensional Quality of Life (QOL) support to all the different cancer life champions during and after their treatments. LifeChamps is providing support to middle aged and older (pre-frail and frail) cancer patients, as well as their caregivers and healthcare professionals, with an integrated Big Data-driven solution capable to improve their QOL via a timely and more accurate clinical decision support at the point of care. Its Artificial Intelligence (AI) and analytics engine, running both at the cloud and at the mobile edge, can determine accurately which factors affect the oncological patients’ QOL the most, during and after their treatment. Furthermore, complemented by a health recommender system LifeChamps offers personalized healthcare services (i.e., symptom monitoring, treatment and rehabilitation) to these patients and their caregivers. The LifeChamps platform will be validated in four multi-national pilot use case scenarios aimed at demonstrating its applicability and validity for all the requirements of the SC1-DTH01-2019 Call (prediction, care, advice).

The development of SHIFT tools will be carried out in close consultation with the stakeholder communities represented in the project. The two CH networks (BMN, ANBPR) will launch open consultation to aggregate views from their members, while together with the cultural heritage institutions (SOMKL, SMB) and heritage professionals (Heritage Management), will provide requirements based on the cultural assets being maintained within each organisation. The diversity of digital media transformation and the semantic formalisation of the cultural assets will be individually demonstrated across each museum and library. Additionally, the inclusion by design principles adopted within the project, will be evaluated by CH networks and vulnerable group partner (DBSV), who will engage with the various tools developed in the project. In complementary to the stakeholders and end-users, the SHIFT project also brings together leading industrial (SIMAVI) and academic institutions (FORTH, UAU, QMUL). The consortium is complemented by SMEs (MDS, AUD) with high-tech product development teams and ethical expertise (ERC). Collectively, the project will release 12 technology solutions clustered into five thematic areas (computer vision, audio, text-to-speech, haptics, semantics and linguistics) that support accessibility and inclusion by design to overcome the shortcomings and limitations of CCI sector to enable growth and stimulation.

Although the global educational sector has attempted to react promptly to such new situation, it is widely accepted that existing solutions have introduced a number of security and privacy concerns, as remote delivery increases the chances for sensitive student and teaching staff data to be exposed to cyber threats. Moreover, digitilizing and not only digitising the education implies adjusting the pedagogical models of the respective courses, to enhance interaction and minimize passive learning, which in turns introduces further challenges in terms of security and privacy.INCIDENCE aims to address those challenges at two levels. On the educational level, by developing and delivering a novel cyber hygiene framework, tailored to the requirements and characteristics of HEI distance learning and teaching, and on the infrastructure level by offering a safe to use eLearning toolkit reflecting on modern eLearning pedagogies and state of the art cybersecurity and privacy advances. Such solutions will empower both teaching staff and students with knowledge on maintaining a high level of cyber hygiene and new capabilities to respond to potential threats that may arise. To support the above, the project will produce four main outputs. A Gamification Cyber Hygiene Training framework, a Scenario Based Learning (SBL) eLearning toolkit, a MOOC course to disseminate, in a wide audience, the framework and toolkit derived from the previous outputs, and a set of best practices and techniques to improve the security of virtual rooms and learning management systems.

The platform will cater to the demands of efficient resource utilisation and provide protection against threats of wildfires encountered globally. The project will establish synergies between (i) environmental; (ii) technology and (iii) social science experts for enhancing the ability of regional and national authorities to monitor forest resources, evaluate biodiversity, generate more accurate fire risk indicators and promote safety regulations among citizens through awareness campaigns. The novelty of SILVANUS lies in the development and integration of advanced semantic technologies to systematically formalise the knowledge of forest administration and resource utilisation. Additionally, the platform will integrate a big-data processing framework capable of analysing heterogeneous data sources including earth observation resources, climate models and weather data, continuous on-board computation of multi-spectral video streams. Also, the project integrates a series of sensor and actuator technologies using innovative wireless communication infrastructure through the coordination of aerial vehicles and ground robots. The technological platform will be complemented with the integration of resilience models, and the results of environmental and ecological studies carried out for the assessment of fire risk indicators based on continuous surveys of forest regions. The surveys are designed to take into consideration the expertise and experience of frontline fire fighter organisations who collectively provide support for 47,504x104 sq. meters of forest area within Europe and across international communities. The project innovation will be validated through 11 pilot demonstrations across Europe and internationally using a two sprint cycle.
