In European society, video games are important both as a cultural and commercial industry and as an important aspect of people's daily lives. When compared to other economic sectors, the EU's video game market exhibits a rapid growth rate and makes up one-third of the total market value. The overall aim of the i-Game project is to create an accessible open-source game development platform that will facilitate the co-creation of games by diverse actors within different ecosystems of cultural and creative sectors and industries (CCSI), to enhance innovation and to bring positive impact on social cohesion and sustainability. More specifically, i-Game aspires: 1) To engage video game stakeholders of different abilities, expertise, and disciplines, to contribute, learn, share and tap into new innovative and economic opportunities; 2) To provide a collaborative platform with the tools to co-create mobile and virtual reality games by engaging different users, from different backgrounds and sectors; 3) To develop an ethical-design culture in the video game industry; 4) To monitor, assess and manage the impact that the video games have on different sectors, especially targeting culture/museums, creative industries and fashion/textile; 5) To help understand why and how are online games positively impacting people, culture and society and help extract the ingredients necessary for developing a new generation of games targeted to improve people’s well-being. The i-Game partnership, composed by organisations with diversified backgrounds and expertise, reassures the interdisciplinary approach required to address the complex topic of the games’ impact on innovation, sustainability, social cohesion and economic growth. This multi-sectorial and inclusive cooperation shall stimulate an innovative and productive work and inspire cross-fertilisation across perspectives, disciplines and countries, under common European values.

<< Background >>Representing 99% of all businesses in the EU, SMEs are the backbone of Europe's economy. SMEs are very diverse in terms of business models, size, age, and entrepreneurs’ profiles. They range from liberal professions and microenterprises in the services sector to middle-range industrial companies, from traditional crafts to high-tech start-ups.The transformative impact for SMEs to embrace and drive sustainable development is on the rise. This shift is associated with long-term economic growth and minimal ecological damage. SMEs should carefully consider the social and environmental risks and threats to their long-term existence. The idea that SMEs play a relevant role in addressing the world’s complex social and environmental problems is widely recognized. Although the environmental footprint of individual SMEs may be low, their aggregate impact is significant.Following the assumption that organizations can be a force for positive change, the project aims to create a network of organizations interested in tackling sustainability issues and help SMEs in the green transition. Since all SMEs can play a key role in contributing to the SDGs, regardless of their size, shape and field of interest, they have to be supported in acting responsibly and pursue opportunities to solve social challenges through organizational innovation. SMEs are deeply woven into Europe’s economic and social fabric. They provide two out of three jobs, bring training opportunities across regions and sectors, including for low-skilled workers, and support society’s welfare, including in remote and rural areas.Competitive sustainability is Europe’s guiding principle for the future. Achieving a climate neutral, resource efficient economy requires the full mobilisation of SMEs. For this, tailor-made measures are a prerequisite to develop a thriving SME layer of economy as well as to give opportunities for growth to those SMEs that wish to scale up. Project partners observed a lack of concrete, clear and tailored tools for supporting SMEs and BSOs when it comes to environmental sustainability. Too often the environmental sustainability of business is only taken into account when observing corporate business and large companies. On the contrary, in line with the EU “SMEs strategy for a sustainable and digital Europe”, it is essential to support SMEs in this process and equip them with instruments to understand environmental risks and mitigate those covering specific sectors.Considering the profiles of project partners, the Business 2030 proposal will help partner organizations acquire the necessary skills and knowledge for supporting SMEs and BSOs by innovating the continuing VET educational offer. The synergies with BSOs and SMEs will help the partner organizations understand the needs of the stakeholders and in turn adapt the way their support and training is delivered to them. We believe this approach will be the most effective way to reduce the gap between training and the changes in the labour market. The creation of a framework for effective SMEs involvement (Project result 4) will be the crucial tool for achieving the project objectives with a mutual benefit for partner organizations and SMEs involved.Business2030 aims to provide organizations across Europe with tools useful to facilitate the understanding of the transformations to sustainability and assess the changes needed to meet environmental and social targets. A third of SMEs report that they face complex issues when trying to make their business more resource efficient (“An SME Strategy for a sustainable and digital Europe”). Yet, as awareness of risks related to climate and other environmental pressures increases this transition to sustainable business practices and conduct is key for SMEs’ continued competitiveness and growth. It is vital to support SMEs in this process and equip them with instruments to understand environmental risks.<< Objectives >>Considering the background of this proposal, the general objective of the project is to develop simple to use and effective tools aimed at upskilling staff members of BSOs and SMEs so that in turn they will actively engage in the sustainable transition. By tackling environmental sustainability from different perspectives (energy efficiency, mobility, management efficiency, circular economy, waste management, etc.) the proposal intends to address current gaps in the staff members of BSO and SMEs in order to successfully manage labour market transitions. To this end, the role of VET institutions is pivotal. The Business2030 project sets the following specific objective (SO):SO1: To develop professional skills of the staff of SMEs and of the organizations providing support to SMEs (BSOs), with a special focus on environmental sustainability;SO2: To support SMEs and BSOs in self-assessing their needs with regards to environmental sustainability and take action to reduce their impact;SO3: To increase capacity building of SMEs and BSOs and better address their staff needs and synergies with VET providers;SO4: To develop structured guidelines for involvement of SMEs and all stakeholders in their sustainability transition;SO5: To develop guidelines to support VET providers’ ecosystems and the way they engage with stakeholders and in particular the labour market actors;SO6: To create aware, sustainable and connected learning and working communities able to generate educational and business value and local growth through sustainable strategies.<< Implementation >>The work plan and activities of the project are designed to ensure the effective achievement of the results and objectives and covers all activities necessary for this purpose: preparation, implementation, communication and dissemination, as well as cross-cutting activities related to management and quality.Phase 0: Preparation (prior to project submission)Before the submission of the project, a preliminary research was conducted to collect relevant information regarding the readiness of SMEs and BSOs in the field of environmental sustainability. All project partners were involved in the design phase (several online meetings were organized) to establish a common ground for working.Phase 1: Kick-off and collection of data (M1-M5) - R1During the preparation phase of the project, a research will be conducted in the 4 partner countries that will carry out the pilot activity and at European level in order to analyze the training gaps and identify the areas to be improved addressed by the Self-assessment tool. A desk and field research will be carried out in each country involving stakeholders and setting the basis (Joint report) for the next phase.Phase 2: Implementation - Elaboration of Business2030 Self-assessment Tool SO2-3 (M46-M10) - R1Based on the research report developed in the previous phase, the project partners will work together to produce the methodology and develop the content that will constitute the Business2030 Self-assessment Tool, which will then be translated into the 4 languages of the project partners. All partners will participate in the development of the Tool under the leadership of People 2050. The finalized tool will be administered to the SMEs and BSOs.Phase 3: Implementation - Production of the Toolkit and development of the platform SO1-3-4-6 (M11-M20) - R2&R3By analysing the results emerging from the Self-Assessment Tool, project partners will proceed with production of the toolkit in parallel with the development of the platform for the MOOC. The delivery of the first version is planned for M16. Following this, the platform will be integrated with the Self-Assessment Tool and the toolkit content. Then all partners will work on populating the platform and promoting the participation of learners (M15-M20). The full and operational version of the platform (second milestone) is planned for M20, and will host the training course based on R2 addressed to SMEs and BSOs staff.Phase 4: Implementation - Piloting of the MOOC SO1-6 (M21-M23) - R3In order to ensure the proper conduct of the training activities, we have planned the involvement of 2 tutors for each organization that will carry out the pilot action in support of learners: these will be trained on the use of the platform and toolkit during the LTTA scheduled in Marseille in M18. The pilot action will involve at least 10 participants in each partner country who will complete the MOOC.Phase 5: Implementation - Analysis of results, update and production of the Framework SO3-4-5 (M22-M28) R4Partners will analyse the results of the pilot action which will be the basis for the Framework thanks to a cross analysis with the results of the research and the Self-assessment Tool. An entry and exit questionnaire to the MOOC will be proposed to participants in order to collect qualitative and quantitative data. CCIFM will then coordinate the development of the framework, the guidelines and the policy recommendations. In this phase, if needed, the platform and the MOOC will be updated.Transversal phase A: Management and Quality Assurance (M1-M28)All partners will perform actions aimed at ensuring the proper management of the project and the quality of results (please see management and monitoring sections)Transversal phase B: Communication and promotion of project results (M1-M28)All partners will widely promote and exploit the results of the project among European stakeholders beyond the partnership.<< Results >>Business2030 aims to upskill both the staff of SMEs and of the organizations providing support and training and at giving them the necessary skills and tools for guiding the sustainable transformation. To support organizations and SMEs facing demanding challenges and helping them shape new sustainable development paths, the Project plans to implement 4 results aimed at accelerating the transition. In order to achieve the aforementioned objects the following specific results will be produced:R1 Business2030 Sustainability Self-Assessment ToolThe tool aims to help organizations determine their performance across the major areas of sustainability. It will be a tool for investigating SME sustainability performance (i.e., environmental stewardship, labor and management practices, product responsibility etc.) It will focus on the SME internal policies and practices and reveal where existing practices support sustainability and where improvement is needed. The creation of the Self-Assessment Tool will be based on an initial research needed to analyse the current specific needs of SMEs and BSOs in each context.Project result 1 will support the achievement of the project specific objectives 2 and 3.R2 Business2030 Online Toolkit for VET providersBased on the results emerging from the self-assessment tool, the partnership will select the most relevant areas to be developed and will design a toolkit aimed at providing VET providers and BSOs staff with efficient tools for supporting the green transitions of SMEs. The toolkit will include original and innovative material developed by the partnership as well as Open Educational Resources (OERs). The final toolkit will result in an open course for SMEs and BSO.Project result 2 will address the specific objectives 1, 3 and 4.R3 Business2030 MOOCBoth the Self-assessment tool and the toolkit will be integrated in an online platform that will serve for the delivering of the online course. The Business2030 MOOC will guarantee accessibility, sustainability and scalability of project results: the format of the course, online and self-paced, will allow for replicability of the course during the project and beyond its duration. Moreover, the open format will allow for integration and future updates making possible to deliver further courses to SMEs and BSOs staff.Project result 3 will support the specific objectives 1 and 6.R4 The Business 2030 VET Framework for business sustainabilityThe document will present a framework for making SMEs strategies effective for environmental sustainability. The framework will be the result of the consultations with SMEs and BSOs matched with the findings emerging from the research and the piloting of the course. R4 will have a two-folded aim:- facilitating the participation of SMEs and BSOs along the path for sustainability and green transition- supporting VET providers in bridging the gap between the educational offers and the labour market needs.Project result 4 will support the specific objectives 3, 4 and 5.In addition, the Business2030 project will produce the following outcomes:- at least 5 SMEs and BSOs external to the partnership in each country involved in the project activities (research and testing, consultation)- at least 10 SMEs and BSOs staff members trained through the MOOC in each country- realization of the project website and graphic identity- creation of promotional material (in English and national languages) for increasing the visibility of the project- organization of one multiplier event in each country for the direct involvement of stakeholders at local/regional/national level- creation of synergies at transnational level between several actors that might results in future collaboration and opportunities both in the educational and professional sector- at least 2 staff members per partner organizations taking part in a transnational training mobility aimed at acquiring skills to support SMEs and BSOs.
