The project’s principal aim is the development of UniServer: a universal system architecture and software ecosystem for servers. UniServer will facilitate the evolution of the Internet from an infrastructure where data is aggregated to centralized data-centres to an infrastructure where data are handled in a distributed and localized manner close to the data sources. UniServer will realize its bold goal by greatly improving the energy efficiency, performance, dependability and security of the current state-of-the-art micro-servers, while reinforcing the supported system software. UniServer will develop effective means to expose the intrinsic hardware heterogeneity caused by process variations, harness it and use it to its advantage for improving energy efficiency or performance. Lightweight, only software, mechanisms will be embedded for exposing to the system software the pessimistic voltage/frequency margins currently adopted in commercial processor and memory, which will be enhanced with new margin/fault-aware runtime and resource management policies. The UniServer technology will be ported on the world-first 64-bit ARM based Server-on-Chip and evaluated using smart emerging applications deployed in classical cloud business data-centres as well as in new environments closer to the data sources. UniServer aspires to deliver a unique fully working prototype that will turn the opportunities in the emerging Big Data and IoT markets into real, smarter products that can improve the everyday life and lead to a substantial financial and employment growth. The unique blend of expertise of UniServer’s consortium consisting of world leading low-power processor and Server-on-Chip suppliers (ARM, APM) as well as system software developer (IBM), and a set of emerging application drivers and established research organisations guarantees the successful realization of the ambitious goals, while reinforcing Europe’s strong position in traditional and new multi-billion euro market.

Within IP4 more than 10 projects have created a wide array of technologies that tackles carious aspects of traveller experience. Those technologies tackle the interoperability of Transport Service Providers’ (TSPs) services, travel shopping, booking & ticketing, trip tracking, travel companion technologies and business analytics. Various tools have been tested in various locations around Europe retrieved user feedback and improved upon the feedback. Today, IP4 has a large toolset of proven technologies that need to go to the next level; become ready to be implemented in large scale products. IP4MaaS will assist IP4 projects to demonstrate the technologies at an unprecedented level: 6 different locations in Europe including more than 10 transport operators (Public Transport and Mobility-as-a-Service), authorities and agencies. IP4MaaS will develop the scenarios for the demonstrations and a thorough assessment strategy for the demonstrations that tackles both the performance of the demonstrations as well as the impact of the technologies on users and the environment in urban and suburban setups. IP4MaaS will create strategic plans for the demonstrations that will be updated in two iterations leading to two demonstration phases. Furthermore, the project will provide recommendations regarding the promotion and transferability of the technologies to other locations in Europe. IP4MaaS will organise and monitor one of the largest demonstrations of technologies in European project’s history and expects its findings to be used as a baseline for future demonstrations and testing that involves a diverse group of demo partners.

The objective of the SOMATCH is to improve the competitiveness of EU SMEs in Textile and Clothing (T&C) and design focused sectors by the collection, definition and visualization by ad hoc interfaces of fashion trends. SOMATCH will provide creative designers with detailed and reliable trends estimations and forecasts of user acceptance. Its goal will be achieved by the creation of an innovative tool for the mining and visualization of large sets of unstructured data, related to the use and preferences of fashion products by consumers, supporting T&C companies quick reaction to the market dynamics and better adaptation of design to real consumers’ demand. SOMATCH faces this complex and challenging deal by the combined development and application of SoA advanced image analysis technology, unexploited and innovative in clothing and fashion, combined with social network analysis. Its results will be presented to interested end users by dedicated interfaces and instruments: mobile devices as well as ad hoc visualization tools will be explored for this purpose. The visualisation of the generated data will be performed from off-line statistics, generated after data processing, and by new real-time instruments for image collection and evaluation of designs. They will be targeted also by the integration of the systems with new SoA mobile and wearable (for ex. Google Glass) devices to collect information and to visualise trend interpretation. This approach will open a vast field of new approaches for the fashion designers, supporting final users involvement into the whole trend evaluation and a close interaction with them. To reach this purpose Somatch consortium includes research centres expert in image and content analysis (TUM, UPC), software providers experts in data management, platform development and fashion tools (Holonix. Sparsity, Ideal), end users from SME textile industry and retail (DENA) and social networking and e-commerce (Weblogs, NJAL).
