The overall vision of FORTESIE is to design, demonstrate, validate and replicate innovative renovation packages in the building industry with Smart Performance-Based guarantees and financing, aiming at Efficient, Sustainable and Inclusive Energy (ESIE) use to accelerate the Renovation Wave in Europe. The renovation packages will combine state-of-the-art construction materials and technologies components (prefabricated facades, BIPV, heat pumps, etc.), innovative digital technologies for measurement and verification, and attractive financing (e.g. contractual frameworks for smart performance guarantees, financing mechanisms, engagement techniques, green-euros, etc.), to raise the overall EPC value proposition. The renovation packages will be tailored to specific target groups needs and optimised to improve the ESIE performance considering energy, CO2 and comfort. Each package will be demonstrated and validated in real life use cases and customised for replication in all other partner countries for immediate market take-up. Methodologies from Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) will be adopted for: a. the creation of collaborative business models that boost the Renovation Wave by considering all stakeholders’ value and revenue streams, b. novel incentivisation and behavioural change models that aim to stimulate long term engagement with focused interactions to adopt green behaviour c. the incorporation of a digital currency, green-euro, (€G) for financing, rewarding and creating an inclusive /collective narrative in the fight against climate change d. the collection of feedback for recommendations to policy and business stakeholders, e. Mapping and understanding the complex interplay between the different stakeholders to deliver an engagement strategy across the value chain. These demonstrations will potentially constitute the green-euro as a retail Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), hence revolutionising the financing of renovation approaches. An online marketplace, will be offering first level advice, directing consumers through the value chain of stakeholders and facilitating access to these “packaged” renovation services.

BENEFFICE’s strategic objective is to reduce wasted energy by incentivising various consumer types in the wide energy consumer market. A novel ecosystem will be developed which enables and incentivises long-term energy consumption savings. BENEFFICE ecosystem leverages novel IoT enabled, low-cost, “plug-and-play-and-forget” devices, energy disaggregation and an innovative empowerment and rewards approach based on an alternative monetary currency so as to change consumers’ energy consumption behaviour. The “plug-and-play-and-forget” devices will accurately capture energy use patterns at the level of each electrical appliance and at the level of each individual user. An energy behaviour model will be used to correlate these patterns with optimal, personalised comfort levels, social profiles and characteristics (including social, economic, geographic and energy use contexts) in order to determine optimal energy use behaviour to reduce wastage of energy and to increase the use of renewable resources in the energy mix. BENEFICE will design personalized, real-time motivational paths to deliver sustained reductions in energy consumption. Customers will be incentivized to follow these paths voluntarily, through the application of novel business models that provide monetary rewards in return for progress along each personalized pathway and help build an online community of like-minded actors. These business models will be based on an innovative digital CO2 currency - CO2 Credits are awarded to actors for proven, sustained reduction in fossil fuel use. Business models that stimulate the supply of, and demand for, CO2 Credits, will be designed, tested and validated. These business models will leverage partnerships with established businesses -third party market catalysts- that recognize the potential offered by CO2 Credits both to promote reduced consumption of fossil fuels and to extend their market share by offering a new service to their clients with clear social added value.

450 is the SME operating and promoting a digital platform for the management of the CO2 digital currency (CO2s) based on the CO2 reductions achieved by a CO2Account owner. A CO2Account is held in the platform to register the CO2 consumption, to calculate the yearly reduction, and to provide the relevant credit, expressed in units of CO2. CO2 is the alternative digital currency which rewards the account owner by the verified reduction of 1 kg of CO2 emissions through the reduced use of fossil fuel in heating and/or transport. CO2s can be credited to, and debited from (notably with CO2Cards -payment card, or with a mobile App) the account. The CO2/€ exchange rate prices carbon.
