NOVA is one of the national Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that sends and receives most mobility students (648 outgoing, 940 incoming), which makes the Erasmus+ Program as the key facilitator for mobility at NOVA.Through this project, NOVA aims to continue promoting and improving the quality of students’ mobility, teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as strengthen cooperation between HEIs and between HEIs and enterprises; supporting the growth of contents and services, bringing closer HEIs and companies; contributing to the success of students and improving the quality of the courses and the teaching standards. The profile of the participants is mainly 1st and 2nd cycle students (incoming and outgoing), with mobility periods of one semester. The candidates apply more for curricular studies mobility than for placement mobility. The selection of the mobility institution is based on academic excellence, teaching and research capacity, geographical importance, cultural diversity, as well as the degree of complementarity with their own pedagogical interests.Regarding the staff mobility for teaching and for training, those modalities have been strongly improved and the number of mobilities has increased considerably, with an average duration of five days. Those mobilities are acclaimed as an opportunity to contact the Partner Higher Education Institutions, to understand how they are organized, to strengthen the ties, to establish new partnerships, to give lectures and to adopt new teaching and managing methods, to give the participants an opportunity for personal and professional development.Globally, the results have been pretty positives: more than 94% of the outgoing students have reported to be very satisfied with their mobility experience. The incoming participants are satisfied with the conditions of the offered accommodation and how they have been equally treated in relation to their colleagues, both in the academic contest as other daily situations. There is gratification with the academic and administrative monitoring. At the level of non-teaching staff, it is important to underline the high levels of self-recognition improvements in job satisfaction, as well as in cultural skills, good practices, networking and contribution to the interinstitutional relations. The participation of NOVA in the various aspects of the Erasmus+ Program is very important for the internationalization strategy of the Institution. The impact is huge and clearly visible by the growing trend of incoming and outgoing mobilities reported. The great integration of the Erasmus+ participants and their shared experience is the main result of the program. It is irrefutable that the Erasmus+ Program has contributed to improve the quality of teaching and the quality of the academic offers which is testified by the academic and professional success of the participants. With regards to the strategy, the participation of NOVA in the Erasmus mobility programs approaches many of its main goals for the internationalization: English as the language of instruction; education and exposure to Portuguese language and culture for foreign students; students’ exposure to different cultures. The participation of students and staff in Erasmus + mobility programs is directly linked to the school's commitment for permanent and continuous improvement of the quality of teaching, learning and research. The feedback from outgoing participants on their experience is precious and provides a wide range of the best practices observed abroad. The program has also served to support the development of contents and services, specifically designed to meet the needs of the students, such as companies/ organizations specialized in finding accommodation, in the reception and integration and in the development of leisure activities. The cooperation with the Higher Education Institutions and other entities on a project of this kind is essential. On the other hand, the established collaborations have been extremely useful in launching partnerships for new projects, many of them under the Erasmus + Program.

This project complements the previous one (2015-1-PT01-KA107-012873) in order to strengthen NOVA's sphere of influence and impact in the Balkan region with a greater number of partnerships and a bigger impact at the regional level. In addition to the cooperation with the Partner HEIs in the Balkan region, which is part of NOVA's internationalisation strategy, the project is totally in line with the European Union's policy guidelines, in particular the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), which emphasises the European integration of the Balkan countries. The cooperation with the Balkan region is a convergence of objectives of the EU and our Institution. Its purpose and objectives, that have been described previously in the application form, are common, and the results achieved have confirmed and reinforced these aims: students and staff (developing skills to increase employment opportunities by promoting a better link between Higher Education and the labor market; acquisition of soft skills); HEIs (higher visibility; transfer of knowledge; sharing of good practices; cooperation and implementation of new projects); at local, regional, European and international level (contributing to strengthen the knowledge-based economy and society; creating jobs; strengthening the EU's overall competitiveness; reinforcing the importance of linguistic and cultural diversity in Europe; promoting development in the Balkans region). Through this project, NOVA intends to keep fostering and improving the quality of student and staff mobility, to contribute to the success of the students and to improve the quality of the courses and teaching provided, as well as to intensify the cooperation between the Partner HEIs. 73 mobilities (15 SMS and 58 STA/STT) have been implemented with a different number of mobilities initially approved by the National Agency for Erasmus + (NA), which was 38. The number of the granted mobilities was almost doubled and all the fundings allocated were used. Although there were changes of flows in relation to the contract, all of them were reported with an addendum (when necessary) to the AN, and the changes have been approved. Regarding the SMS mobilities, the students' interest in studying at NOVA was especially noted. The trend towards the mobility of studies was: incoming, 1st cycle, and especially in the area of communication technologies. Although the greatest interest was in this area, there were also some mobilities in the areas of social sciences and law. According to the statistics, 100% of the total SMS participants are satisfied or very satisfied with the experience. In the staff mobilities, a greater interest in the mobility for training purposes was evident. Although the incoming ones were in greater numbers (36), the excellent number of outgoing mobilities (22) is remarkable. The great majority of mobilities took place at the level of international relations, namely between the offices of NOVA and the Partner Universities (PU). The main objectives of these mobilities were to monitor the project and obtain PU feedback, as well as participation in Staff Weeks, dissemination of new Erasmus + opportunities and the analysis of future cooperation possibilities. The staff mobilities are also an opportunity for personal and professional growing. According to the European University of Tirana (EUT), “This mobility project is highly relevant to the internationalisation strategy of the European University of Tirana (EUT): the fields of study for this mobility project (…) are of high interest and relevance to the curricula development of EUT; the project fits perfectly with the EUT attempts to encourage and support staff and student mobility in the region and EU; it offers the possibility to improve the university’s practices for internationalisation, networking and partnership development.”NOVA's participation in Erasmus mobility programs is in line with its internationalisation strategy: use of English as teaching language; teaching and exposure to the Portuguese language and culture for foreign students; exposure of students to different cultures. The participation of students and staff in Erasmus+ mobility programs promotes a permanent and continuous improvement in the quality of teaching, learning and research, for the development of future cooperation projects and the alignment with European values and community identity.

With the opening of the Call Erasmus+ 2015, NOVA saw in the Action KA107 - International Credit Mobility (ICM) the opportunity to use the previous cooperation networks with the HEIs described- either through formalised cooperation protocols or through the single relations carried out by the professors - and to present mobility proposals with the following objectives: to know the profile of the student, researcher and teacher / employee of the HEIs involved with the purpose to obtain and provide qualifications at the host HEI, in the case of students (SMS), staff mobility for training (STT ), and staff mobility for teaching (STA); to promote the cooperation and mobility of the Partner HEIs involved, contributing to the development of the human resources and the capacity for international cooperation; to promote innovation, creativity, competitiveness, employability; to support projects that could contribute for the development of the Information Communication Technologies (ICT); to promote the best use of innovative results, products and processes; to encourage the exchange of know-how, teaching methods and academic recognition, always based on the principles of equal opportunities and non-discrimination; to contribute to the mutual enrichment of societies and the development of professional qualifications, to the opening of mindsets and cultural exchange. There was a convergence of objectives, which have followed the EU guidelines and for which NOVA and the Partner HEIs have been focused to achieve through the realisation of the mobilities, the continuos communication and through the commitment of the HEIs involved to follow the principles of ECHE and the inter institutional agreements individually signed by the parts involved in the project. There were changes in the number of flows compared to the ones first indicated in the initial contract; the mobility numbers were modified through specific addenda and communicated on time to the National Agency in order to be approved. Thus, 187 mobility grants were executed, of which 65 were for SMS mobilities and 122 for Staff (23 STA / 99 STT). Although the execution of SMS mobilities was lower than expected, the staff mobilities have surpassed and exceeded the expectations. This can be explained by NOVA's commitment to organise staff weeks, to receive STA and STT from the Partners HEIs and to send monitoring teams to them. The staff weeks organised at NOVA have showed our country and culture and have contributed to spread the information about the Erasmus+ Program in order to encourage the creation of new partnerships in different actions. The monitoring teams sent to the Partner HEIs have further developed contacts and knowledge with the representatives of the HEIs, namely in the management of the mobilities, in their direct impact and in the process of studies’ recognition. Regarding the type and the profile of the participants, the IN/OUT students were mostly from the 1st and 2nd cycle of studies and they have attended curricular units in the following thematic areas: Social Sciences, Management, Administration and Law; Mathematics and Computer Science; Engineering and Technology; Communication and Information Sciences. The period of mobility was on average of 5 months. For the staff mobilities (STA/STT), the great participation of STT, IN and OUT, at the level of the international relations offices, has been significative. This participation, as previously mentioned, was due to the organisation of staff weeks for the IN participants at NOVA and the creation of monitoring teams sent to control the implementation of the activities related to the project. As for the STA IN/OUT participation, these were important for understanding and disseminating the European teaching methods and for sharing knowledge on similar topics at the Partner HEIs. The staff mobilities (STA/STT) IN and OUT had a duration of 5 working days, plus 2 days for travel. In terms of the results and impact of the mobilities we have received the feedback from some partner HEIs that the financial support provided was essential for the participation of students in the international mobility programs. It has also been reported that these programs have a major impact on students, making them more independent, developing their social and language skills. The STA and STT mobilities have shown great satisfaction with the international experience, both in terms of academic excellence, cultural and professional valorisation. It was also highlighted by the Partner HEIs that these mobilities are boosting their social and local development as well as their International presence by the participation and submission of applications in joint projects. Given the wide range of competencies in the area of LDS, the fundamental approach of the LL2DS project is to exploit the specific expertise in research and teaching in both linguistics and data science provided by all the partners involved. This will also increase the competitiveness of Linguistics as a discipline by firmly linking it to the shifting demands of the academic and professional job market, specifically the growing need for accurate, accessible, and inspiring engagement with the possibilities of Data Science.

The impact is clear and it is very important for NOVA's internationalization strategy.Since few years already, the key-action 107 has exceeded the limits of mobility designed just inside the European territory, providing to the participants opportunities for study, teaching and training in the partner countries. The development of the cooperation relations between NOVA and the Partner Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) allowed the creation of this project, based on the priorities defined by the European Union (EU) regarding the lots of the different countries involved. The ICM NOVA 2017-2019 has enabled the mobility of participants from Portugal to other parts of the world and vice-versa, supporting student mobility and the mobility of academic and administrative staff from and to 22 Partner countries outside Europe. The key tools for a successful cooperation with the partner HEIs were: maximizing the knowledge about the student or staff profiles; valuing the recognition of the qualifications obtained by the scholarship holders at the host HEI, as in the case of students (SMS), staff for training (STT) and staff for teaching (STA); promoting the cooperation and the mobility actors involved, both at NOVA and at the partner HEIs; contributing to the development of human resources by increasing the capacitive sensitivity of international cooperation and cultural syncretism; fostering innovation, creativity, employability and competitiveness; encouraging a better use of innovative results, products and processes, allowing the increment of the project support, which is essential for the growth of new collaborations and the strengthening of old ones; promoting the results and encouraging the exchange of good practice regarding the teaching methods and academic recognition, based on the principles of equality and non-discrimination; promoting the enrichment of societies through the sharing of values and cultural diversity, which have contributed to the exchange, openness of minds and the development of a society of the future based on cultural plurality. The purposes of the project aligned with the EU guidelines and they were achieved through mobilization and qualitative communication between the parties involved and through the commitment of the HEIs to strictly follow the ECHE principles, as well as the indications contained in the inter-institutional agreements. The number of the approved flows in the financial contract has slightly changed due to the difficulties encountered at the time of implementation, justified on one hand by the weak participation of the Partner HEIs in the beginning of the project and, on the other hand, explained by the little interest of the OUT students towards some destinations: in the latter case, the scholarships were reused to allow more IN mobilities or to approve requests for mobility's extension. With the average mobility period being just under 5 months, the balances were reused to finance more staff IN or OUT. In total, 182 mobility grants were executed of which 50 for SMS and 132 for Staff. The interest expressed by the incoming students and the excellence achieved during the entire mobility period showed the impact that this program had on them, making the students more independent and contributing to the development of their social and linguistic skills. Regarding the type and profile of the participants, the SMS IN/OUT were mostly from the 1st and 2nd cycle of studies and in the following major thematic areas: Social Sciences; Languages and Literatures; Law; Economics and Management; Communication and Information Science; Engineering; Chemistry; Information technology. The staff mobility had a strong adherence of STT OUT mobilities from NOVA's international relations offices, focusing both on monitoring project implementation activities and observing/sharing best practices abroad. The feedback received from the mobilities was essential to take actions in project implementation. The importance of STA IN / OUT staff mobilities is based on the mutual sharing of methodologies and the dissemination of the European teaching model; the mobilities had an average duration of 5 working days plus 2 travelling days.Overall, this project promoted the internationalization of the various HEIs involved and it has contributed to the consolidation of the European model of higher education.
