Its main objective is to establish a worldwide collaborative effort for the sharing, development and dissemination of best practices regarding smart and resilient buildings as an answer to climate change and resulting global issues (e.g. heat waves, increased occurrence of pandemics). This project aims at: 1) Creating a network of highly qualified multidisciplinary researchers which strengthens the collaboration among researchers from EU and third countries ; 2) Carrying out a global assessment and cross-country comparison of building stocks using databases/labels/and performance metrics ; 3) Improving innovative diagnosis methods for building energy retrofit and assess them in multi-climatic conditions ; 4) Evaluating resilient and smart ventilation and derive national ventilation strategies for improved Indoor Air Quality/Health and handling of airborne infectious diseases ; 5) Improving solutions for Building Energy Retrofit for increased building resiliency and comfort in extreme temperatures ; 6) Leading to the update of national regulations with impacts in terms of improved well-being, resilience and reductions in energy use and greenhouse gas emissions ; 7) Training young researchers and Master students through dedicated summer schools and cross-country collaborative projects ; 8) Disseminating the results through workshops, conferences, newsletters and social media, oriented towards the Scientific community, Industrial actors and stakeholders, Facility managers, Policy Makers and the General Public. Through these actions, SmartBREATH will contribute to answer the current global challenges humanity is facing in terms of climate change and scarcity of energy resources, and to increase the well-being, health, comfort and resilience for occupants in new and existing buildings worldwide.
