Iniciativas para la Economía Social y SolidariaFunder: European Commission Project Code: 2014-1-RO01-KA200-002745Funder Contribution: 115,959 EURThrough this project Association Pro Refugiu intended alongside its partners to address a series of actual problems regarding the assistance for victims of human trafficking. Improve the child/youth victims assistance is linked in having a human resources of professionals able to use in their daily work with the target group, a victim centered approach, new and better methods with long term results regarding the rehabilitation process. As in general professionals use conservative, standard methods, it was considered important to familiarize them as well with methods used with good results on other vulnerable groups affected by similar trauma (methods as coaching, peer to peer, child friendly techniques). It was important to create a pool of professionals able to transmit further the knowledge to other colleagues in their areas of expertise (as social and psychological)Objectives: strengthening professionals knowledge by teaching them how to use support programs in their daily work activity with children and youth victims of human trafficking; enhance cross-border cooperation among professionals from origin-transit-destination countries when children /youth are subjected to exploitation; improve reintegration process for victims of human trafficking as result of receiving support from professionals using an improved assistance as result of new support programs.Activities: transnational project meetings, developing of intellectual outputs, joint staff training events and seminars as multiplier events in Romania, Czech Republic and Spain.Results: -Improved professionals (social workers, psychologists) knowledge on new support methods, friendly approach / victims centered approach that need to be applied when dealing with such vulnerable target group.- An enhanced transnational cooperation of specialists from origin-destination countries, necessary due to the fact that from countries as Romania originate victims of human trafficking exploited in Czech Republic and Spain and a collaboration is needed especially as victims require support in the destination state as well as in the origin one after her/his return back home. A collaboration, communication among specialists - on victims’ needs, type of necessary assistance, type of methods that can lead to positive results and speed the healing process – is more than useful, it is beneficial for the victims.- An improved support provided by professionals to victims (child, youth) as part of their rehabilitation process, by learning on the positive results that techniques as coaching and peer to peer can have towards their clients.

The project addressed several problems, among which the delivery of insufficient support from well-skilled social/legal/health professionals that should play an important role in guiding refugees through the complex process of integration. The project’s objectives consisted in: -To equip social/legal/health professionals with knowledge on how to provide support, assistance to refugees, in a cultural sensitive manner. -To transfer / exchange information on practices that are used in Romania, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Sweden, to implement integration programs for refugees.- To develop cooperation, dialogue among professionals from the countries involved in the project. The project involved 5 organizations that have expertise in refugees’ issues (assistance services, training for professionals, monitoring the migration phenomenon and developing studies on such topics). The organizations involved were: Association Pro Refugiu Romania (applicant), Passage Germany (partner), Association Trabe Iniciativas para la Economia Social y Solidaria Spain (partner), Caritas International Belgium (partner), Scandinavian Human Rights Lawyers Sweden (partner). The main activities consisted in: -Management and coordination of the project. -Develop project’s website and used it as dissemination tool for relevant information, materials obtained as result of project’s implementation. -Develop publications (intellectual outputs): Study report on the integration of refugees in Romania, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Sweden. Handbook for social/legal/health professionals supporting the refugees’ integration.- Implement Joint staff training events in Hamburg Germany and in Brussels Belgium at which attended professionals from 5 countries (Romania, Germany, Belgium, Spain and Sweden). - Organize seminars (as multiplier events) in Romania, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Sweden. Events at which attended social, legal, health professionals that learned more about the project’s results and received information on the right approaches to be used when assisting refugees. The project results / achievements consisted in: A consolidation of legal/social/health knowledge, skills of professionals using a refugee centered-approach, based on their cultural background. An upgrading of skills (social, communication ones) in order to provide better assistance to refugees. A transnational exchange of information on each country practices to integrate refugees in the countries where they obtained an international form of protection. A better awareness on the needs to improve the integration process of refugees on EU territory. Professionals improved their understanding upon the causes and barriers the refugees have to overpass, avoid misconceptions when assisting refugees. The project increased also the partners’ organizations capacity to work in a transnational manner as result of project preparation, implementation, management.
