Erasmus+ KA2 Project - ”First Things First” - Health and well-being in Hairdressing and Beauty care http://www.firstthingsfirst.eu Aim of the project Health and wellbeing is a topic that is becoming more and more important in the fields of hairdressing and beauty care. Self-employment and entrepreneurship are important skills in these fields. A working environment in which attention is paid to health, wellbeing and work safety will enable longer careers. Occupational diseases caused by exposure to chemicals, poor ergonomics and other reasons are commonplace. Chemical exposure is commonplace because health and safety regulations are neglected at work places. Indifference towards health and safety regulations is commonplace. This is a global issue. The aim of this project was to raise awareness on health and well-being in the fields of hairdressing and beauty care. The information that was compiled and produced in this project supports both companies and education providers operating in the aforementioned fields. The increased knowledge will reduce occupational diseases and hazards and will enable longer careers in beauty care and hairdressing. This will, in turn, go hand in hand with entrepreneurship skills and lifelong learning. The aim is to improve working conditions by addressing commonplace practical problems. Products of the Project (Intellectual Outputs) Participants of the project had the opportunity to produce and compile materials that are connected to health and wellbeing. The materials were in various formats: video, text, online clips, audio etc. all compiled into a coherent information package that is freely available at the project website: https://firstthingsfirst.eu/ . The material package can be used by companies and education providers when the issues of work well being and occupational safety are addressed. The digital material package can be integrated into either vocational studies or core skills studies e.g. entrepreneurship, physical education, health education, work safety education and chemistry. Also a digital work wellbeing test was made in the project in the form of a game that is available in Google Play Store for Android. Learning, Teaching and Training events The project covered the span of two years. Altogether 4 Learning, Teaching and Training events were held, one in each participating country. Each meeting focused on specific aspects of health and well-being: work safety, allergies and work related diseases, ergonomics and work well being. Also chemical and cosmetic legislation and microbiology were covered by these events. Avisits to local companies and lectures and training by stakeholders took place. The project's final dissemination event was organized in Porvoo, Finland. The outcomes and products of the project were launched in this event. Partners The project partnership represented 5 different European countries • Careeria (coordinator), Kouvola Region Vocational College and company partner Pikku Reata OY (specialises in hairdressing and beauty care study materials) • 4 partners from overseas - VET education providers: Leeds City College (UK), Albeda College (The Netherlands), Tartu Vocational Training Centre (Estonia), IES Francesc de Borja Moll (Spain) • Working life silent partners: Hairdressing and Beauty Care companies: o M Room (international hairdressing franchise chain) o Sim Finland OY (A Finnish cosmetics factory) Additionally information, materials and consultation were provided by several silent partners.

CONTEXT/BACKGROUND: The development of technology causes that the future society and labour market in Europe are changing very fast. Because of the globalization, employees of the future will work in a more diverse environment. Looking at these trends, 21st Century skills are gaining in importance. With the Skills Agenda (2016) the European Commission invites stakeholders to work together to: Improve the quality and relevance of skills formation - Make skills more visible and comparable - Improve skills intelligence and information. Critical thinking, entrepreneurship, problem solving or digital competences are just some of the competences enshrined. In the changing labour market, VET organisations need to have attention for the 21st century skills to prepare students for the future. Research shows the implementation of the 21st century skills in VET is not sufficient within the Business educational programmes. Occupations in the Business sector are changing (think of e-commerce/e-services) and organisations need to develop modern and future-oriented Business educational programmes. To be able to do this it is necessary to find out the real competence needs that companies sets to to future work. OBJECTIVE: With the results of this project partners have the overall desire to improve the employability of VET students in the Business sector or as entrepreneurs in Europe. Therefore, the project has the objective to develop future-oriented and innovative modules for business educational VET programmes. PARTICIPANTS: In this project 6 partners work together to achive the common objective of the project: 5 VET organisations and 1 company in the business sector. Partners have promised to stimulate the exchange of/between teachers who want to develop international education and teaching with others from abroad. Together they will stimulate the use of new technical development in learning and teaching. After research the partners concluded it is important to investigate the 21st century skills employees need in the Business sector so that future-oriented innovative modules can be developed in VET. Additionally, teachers of the VET organisations need skills (mainly digital and communication) and tools to design and teach the modules. The close collaboration between teachers, students and companies in this project is very unique. ACTIVITIES AND RESULTS European framework of 21st century skills for the business sector: VET organisations, students and companies create a common understanding for which 21st skills employees of the future need in the Business sector. Beside that they will also create a common understanding for which 21st skills teachers in business educational VET programmes need to be able to prepare students successfully for their future. A European Framework with competences will be developed. Blended learning modules and OER: With the help of the mentioned framework, teachers and other professionals teachers are able to design future-oriented innovative modules. The modules will be based on blended learning and it will be possible to integrate them into the VET qualification standard, they will be available in a free open education resource (OER - e.g. Moodle). Teacher training activities and programme: With the help of the mentioned framework, teachers will be trained to develop their skills so that they will be able to design and teach the modules as a part of their programme. A custom made teacher training programme will be developed and executed. METHODOLOGY In this project the participants will work project-based, structured towards the formulated objectives and results. The project period will be divided in consecutive phases (preparation, exploration, training part 1, development, training part 2, testing and adjusting, evaluation and disseminatio). Every phase knows it's own activities and results. IMPACT AND LONGER TERM BENEFIT The project will have a positive impact on the participating organisations and their teachers/professionals and VET students. The employability of VET students in the Business sector or as entrepreneurs in Europe will be improved. The results will have posItive impact on companies in the business sector and policy makers (ministries of educations) too. Companies will be supported in communicating their needs and describe and compare key competences and related skills, in the (future) work area and practical learning settings environments. They will be able to find future proof employers. The results will have an impact on national policy makers of the partner countries, integration of the framework and modules into the local qualification standards is a desired impact and will be explored.

"Developing assessment and guidance through European peer support - project description ""Developing assessment and guidance through European peer support"" is a mobility project for the staff members of Testipiste consortium and its member organisations. The member organisations of our consortium are IUKKY/Edupoli (Coordinator), Ami-säätiö/Amiedu, Eira high school for adults and Axxell Utbildning AB. This project is related to Adult Migrants' Language Assessment and Testing and 13 language teachers and language testers participate in this project. Testipiste is a leading provider of Finnish as a second language assessment and testing considering adult migrants in Finland. We offer the placement testing service in the region of Uusimaa and standardise and develop the assessment of language proficiency by offering a final test for the Finnish studies in integration training and by offering assessment training for teachers. The aim of the project is the development of the staff members' skills in many areas. Due to the changes in the educational field of adult migrants the staff needs to strenghten their skills in guiding the test takers in a suitable training programme with appropriate methods. This project will also enhance personnel's test development skills and strengthen their knowledge of the assessment for learning. We can learn from other countries' good practices. This two-year project consists of 18 mobilities all to conferences and courses of language assessment and testing within Europe. The project also includes study visits to European test development organisations and schools and meetings and interviews with experts in the field of test development. We expect the major impact of the project to be the improved placement testing and guiding practices, as well as more reliable testing and assessment for learning within the member organisations. The results of the project will be shared widely through assessment training for teachers all around the country and through a blog we maintain. Through the extensive network of language testing contacts the impact is expected to be on a national scale."

DIGIVET4ALL - Developing digital vocational education and training to suit different learner types and vocational disciplinesCoordinated by Careeria, Porvoo, Finland Main contact: International Coordinator Ville Vierimaa, ville.vierimaa@careeria.fi, +358405378367 Partner group: Careeria, Mediamaisteri (Finnish E-learning solutions provider company), Galway Technical Institute, Tartu Vocational Education Centre, Berufsbildendeschulen RotenburgThe project is about: -Finding the answers to questions that most VET teachers have about digital pedagogy but dare not ask -Developing digital VET approaches for different learner types and finding solutions to common challenges that teachers have about digital pedagogy and compiling a freely accessible resource online-Providing a tangible model for teachers to put into use in their own organizations ie. a set of instructions on how to make the most of Moodle in VET -Mapping best practices for Moodle System specialists for supporting the use of digital pedagogy in VET organizations Here are some questions that DIGIVET4ALL seeks to explore and answer. What are the best practices for modern use of Moodle? How do I create a course on Moodle that is more than just a material bank? How do I design a pedagogically sound Moodle course? How does the structure of the course and different exercise types on it support or hinder learning? How can I help students from different language backgrounds? How do I address both adult learners and younger learners who are on the same Moodle course? Can digital pedagogy be used to reduce learning material costs? How can Moodle support learning that takes place at the workplace? How can Moodle support learning that takes place at a workplace abroad? Can the same Moodle course be used for both distance and blended learning? What is the best way of using other platforms with Moodle? What about different media formats? What is the best organization strategy for Moodle? How do we make sure that Moodle knowledge is spread nicely and evenly around the college? How to ensure that the staff members make the most out of Moodle? How to ensure that the staff members get the right kind of support at the right moment? What are the best practices of promoting Moodle in my organization? The DIGIVET4ALL is about improving the quality of digital vocational education and training by supporting teachers. The three products of the project are all closely connected to Moodle support. The first product is a questionnaire that can be used by any organisation wishing to map what kind of support the staff members feel they should have what comes to using Moodle. By making use of this product the organisation can direct the Moodle support more precisely. Furthermore, the content of Moodle support can also be adjusted to address the correct things by making use of the questionnaire. The second product of the project is a tangible, hands-on instruction package for teachers who use Moodle. Some of the teachers may be beginners and some may be more advanced users but all the same the product aims to address both types of teachers by offering them a set of hints and advice on how to make the most of Moodle. Product no 2 consists of exercise templates, hints and instructions how Moodle can be used to a) address different learner types b) enable learning in various different environmentsc) make life easier by reducing study material costs and reducing the workload of teachersProduct number 3 is a set of best practices for Moodle support, management and promotion in VET providing organizations. This case example compilation is the result of discussions and comparisons by European Moodle system specialists during DIGIVET4ALL project. All of these products are compiled by VET and core skills teachers who meet are trained on the topic on Learning, Teaching and Training activities in Finland, Estonia, Germany and Ireland throughout the project period of 2019-2021. The products of the project will be made freely available on a project website.
