„Global Education Learning Platform“ is a joint project of five non-governmental organisations from Benin, Czech Republic, France, Ireland and one university from South Africa, organisations with extensive experience in implementing non-formal and formal global education programmes and activities. The project aimed at engaging these organisations in a co-created learning process, during a round of study visits, to share and critique global education practice with a view to improving individual and collective methodology, quality and impact of the training offers. The project had a special focus to exchange between the European and non-European perspectives, enriching each other. Furthermore, the project 1) explored the options how to effectively include young people with fewer opportunities (less privileged geographical backgrounds), 2) special attention was be given to exchange the practical concepts, methods and tools and their connection to their European and African identities with a result to 3) foster cooperation in youth training as well as development cooperation among the participating organisations. The proposed activities comprised a thorough preparation phase including promotion of the project's objectives at national level, engaging wider public, using an innovative ICT tool as well as dissemination of concrete results of the project. A series of four study visits on 4 specific topics in Benin (Global education), France (Migration), Czech Republic (Deconstructing stereotypes) and South Africa (Global citizenship) were carried out and evaluated with the aim for the key actors of each organization to gain practical experience and deeper understanding of the different methodologies and aspects of working on global education. The study visits enabled 48 youth trainers and 6 project coordinators to multiply the gained knowledge after each study visits in their local environment through 24 national multiplying events. These reached approx. 720 participants with at least 200 participants with fewer opportunities. Throughout the project 4 online discussions among 100 young people were held. As one of the intellectual outputs of the project, a publication on the best practices in global education from the respective countries was published and launched in all of the participating countries in order to have an impact on the global education discourse at the national, regional and international level. In total the global education learning platform directly targeted more than 1000 young people that were involved in activities, multiplying events and online discussions.

Help to Transform Society was 12 months long term project in Ukraine coordinated by INEX-SDA in partnership with hosting organization Epokha. This project was focused on youth work. EPOKHA or epoch means “a period of time in history or a person’s life, typically one marked by notable events or particular characteristics.” Epokha wants to see youth in Ukraine changed by the local communities. They know that youth has the power to transform society and we want to invest time, our energy in them. Our organization was enriched in the area of cooperation. One of the project’s aims was to give to the local communities valuable experience that will help them streamline their volunteer activities during the school year. Volunteer’s work gave opportunities to the youngsters to help them to accept different culture and also show them some possibilities for their life. Their horizons about non-formal education were opened up. Youth work, non-formal learning activities and volunteering can significantly contribute to addressing the needs of teenagers from the socially disadvantaged environment (as incomplete families or parents addicted to some addictive substance, kids from orphanages, etc.).Volunteer involved in the project was one 26 years old girl who spent 12 months in Lviv. She has already been in Ukraine before and also she has worked as a volunteer. She showed interest in non-formal education as well as about the work of organization Epokha. Moreover, she became a member of the local community and organization that is visible on the fact that after her EVS she will come back to Ukraine and Epokha and she will try to work there. The volunteer’s activities consisted of two main types of activities: Local community activities – The first part of volunteer’s activities with the local community was helping in the youth clubs and clubs in schools. This means a much deeper relationship with the local young people on a weekly basis via after-school clubs, social ethics programs, educational training, etc., so she prepared various didactical games or other activities. The second part with the local community was teaching the Czech language. And at last, she helped with the preparation of the international floorball tourney. European camps – Young people come to Ukraine in the summer and help local communities to do camps for teenagers. The volunteer became a part of the camp team and helped with the preparation of these summer camps, standardization of them, translating documents into the Czech language (from English), etc.The project has various impacts. The volunteer stepped out of her zone of comfort and became a member of the local community and she had a great insight into the different cultures of Ukraine. She learned to communicate effectively with people from different cultural and personal backgrounds. The project contributed to spreading out of idea of multilingualism by volunteer’s own experience with foreign languages (English and Ukraine languages) and also thanks to her teaching Czech language in local community. The volunteer got to know deeply a different culture and establish new relationships and partnerships across countries which led her to be more culturally sensitive. Through intensive team work, work with local communities and youngster she improved communication skills, her public expression, increase self-esteem, etc. The presence of volunteer itself gave the children the opportunity to see how (international) volunteering works. Thanks to both types of activities she could spread out her experiences and results from international volunteering among the youngsters and on the other hand, her experiences from volunteering in Ukraine among the short-term international volunteers.
