Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health challenge with an estimated 67% increase in global deaths attributable to AMR by 2050. The European Partnership One Health AMR (EUP OHAMR) is aiming to reduce the burden of AMR with an integrated One Health (OH) approach, recognising that human, animal and plant health are interdependent and interlinked with the environment. The partnership will boost AMR research and innovation (R&I) addressing the current knowledge gaps with the aim to improve surveillance of resistant pathogens and provide better diagnostics and more effective treatments of drug-resistant infections. It will support implementation research on prevention measures reducing the use of antimicrobials and spread of AMR and launch an ambitious work programme of joint activities to coordinate R&I investments, facilitate the use and re-use of R&I data, strengthen AMR R&I capacities and facilitate both knowledge translation and uptake of research results and innovations by industry, society, and policy makers. The EUP OHAMR builds on the long-standing collaboration of the partners from the Joint Programme Initiative on AMR (JPIAMR) but with a bigger ambition and a broader scope. The partnership consists of 53 partners from 30 countries from the European Union (EU) and beyond. With active engagement of key stakeholders across the AMR landscape, the partnership will strengthen European and global synergies through alignment of research priorities, policies, and investments. Furthermore, EUP OHAMR will support multisectoral and multidisciplinary collaborations to break the existing silos in AMR research. It will result in increased knowledge and solutions and provide an evidence base for uptake into policy and practice to prevent and tackle AMR. Thus, the EUP OHAMR will deliver towards to the priorities set in the European One Health Action plan against AMR, thereby strengthening the European Research and Innovation Area ecosystem and contribute to making the EU a best-practice region on AMR.

ERA4Health Partnership Phase 2 is aimed to integrate new additional activities to the current ERA4Health Partnership. The main ambition of the partnership it is the contribution to the goal of Europe to be at the forefront of science and innovation in Health Research by 2050 and enhancing the biomedical research to provide a better health for citizens, not only in Europe but at international level. To be able to achieve this aim, ERA4Health Phase 2 will pursue the following specific objectives: SO1. Support relevant medical research including clinical fields and intervention areas (prevention, diagnosis, treatment) SO2. Improve the utilisation of existing health technologies in clinical practice SO3. Build capacity, in particular in conducting IICSs at European scale SO4. Implement and advance the practice of RRI across the breadth of the programme This Phase 2 of the Partnership will continue supporting relevant medical research and new knowledge generation in the research priority areas stablished in the ERA4Health long-term Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), with a particular focus devoted to support and fund multi-country Investigator-Initiated Clinical Studies (IICS). The research priority areas included in the SRIA are: nutrition and life-style related diseases, prevention and public health strategies, cardiovascular diseases, nano and advanced technologies for disease prevention, diagnostic and therapy. ERA4Health will fund non-commercial multi-country IICS to enhance this impactful and added value clinical research. The additional activities in ERA4Health Phase 2 will serve to provide support and building capacity in conducting multi-country IICSs and to overcome the identified challenges and obstacles in these type of IICSs.

BE READY NOW aims to implement the European Partnership for Pandemic Preparedness. This Partnership will gather 74 organisations from 24 countries, including public funding agencies, public health institutes, clinical networks, ministries and research infrastructures active in pandemic preparedness. This consortium is aligned around the vision of building a European research and innovation ecosystem optimally prepared for future health crises caused by infectious diseases, therefore contributing to the objectives of the European Research Area (ERA). To achieve its ambitious vision, BE READY NOW will align stakeholders in pandemic preparedness around shared research priorities to foster a coordinated and efficient research landscape, producing sustainable scientific, health, and socio-economic benefits. Through Joint Transnational Calls, BE READY NOW will help close critical research gaps covering the whole spectrum of pandemic preparedness research (including basic research, diagnostics, therapeutics, vaccines, and public health interventions), through an interdisciplinary approach. It will therefore directly address the goals of Horizon Europe’s Cluster 1 Health. Building on the infrastructures, projects and initiatives supported by the European Commission and Member States, BE READY NOW will establish and sustain an "ever-warm" research ecosystem, capable of pivoting swiftly in response to emerging health threats. This ecosystem will include an innovative, ever-warm EU-wide network of networks of clinical research sites. In the longer term, BE READY NOW will improve the EU's capacity in the areas of prevention, preparedness, surveillance, risk assessment and response to infectious diseases, ensuring the international visibility of the EU as a recognised actor for pandemic preparedness research and response, and providing resilience for citizens and health systems beyond the Partnership’s duration.
