The purpose of B-SHAPES is to refocus on the role of borders in shaping perceptions of European societies in the 21st century, confronted with the challenge of re-borderings in Europe. Borders play a key role in shaping our perceptions of societies, culture, heritage and be-longing. B-SHAPES results will open for a reconfiguration of heritage policies, replacing national approaches with cross-border, European approaches to heritage, empowering citizens and economic sectors to contribute to the creation of a more inclusive vision of cultures and values. Scrutinizing the idea of a socially and culturally coherent Europe addressed in the call B-SHAPES will use a people’s perspective to focus on re-bordering as a European crisis with a negative impact on the quality of life in border regions. Border regions are living labs of European integration. The border closures of March 2020, induced by the pandemic, have severely disrupted previous attempts to develop more cross-border, inclusive, European perceptions of heritage and culture. Borders have continued to be a decisive factor shaping perceptions of ‘us’ and ‘them’, of culture, identity and belonging. Therefore, it is necessary to refocus on the central role of borders for the European integration project, for how they influence people’s perceptions of Europe’s historical and cultural past, of heritage, culture, identity and belonging. B-SHAPES will apply different participatory and ethnographic methods of Citizen Science, focusing especially on youth and minorities, to collect data in different European border regions to scrutinize this challenge with the aim to develop strategies and innovative policies using more inclusive approaches to cultivate joint natural, cultural, and historic heritage.

CO-SECUR aims to build knowledge and a suite of tools, including a Societal Development Plan (SDP) to foster and accelerate the adoption of social innovations and responsible innovation principles that contribute to successful, more effective, and co-produced security solutions for public spaces (with special focus on massive events and crowded places), generating trust, acceptance, increasing security, security perception, and security behavior. For that, CO-SECUR will follow a methodology of 4 phases: 1) Literature review of evidence in security and security perception; 2) Security practices mapping and selection; 3) Descriptive analysis of 72-180 case studies from 9 European countries and critical synthesis of results; and 4) Co-writing and validation of the SDP and tools involving the Quintuple helix + media through participative activities (i.e. hybrid seminars, national working groups, national workshops, public consultation at EU level). As a result, the SDP will contain a depth description of Social Innovation on Security in Europe, a compendium of good practices, and a roadmap of actions. The suite of tools will provide additional supportive material in terms of best practices on fostering smart local communities; policy recommendations on how to orientate security solutions towards RRI and social innovation involving the Quintuple helix + media; benchmarking for industry; and a summary of the innovative, transferable, and scalable Security Technologies. Partners will continue to disseminate and communicate the project progress and outcomes and organize a final Security Perception Conference. At the Conference, a Memorandum of Understanding will be launched and opened to be signed by any city/region willing to promote social innovation and RRI in the security solutions implemented in public spaces.

<< Background >>Context:Recent research has depicted the linkage between environment-oriented activities and gender disparities. In fact, gender equality matters to environmental sustainability with women performing two thirds of global working hours and being more dependent on natural resources in comparison with men (Irish Aid, 2013). However, the agenda promoting the importance of gender equality for the ecosystem still remains unfinished despite all the initiatives taken towards the establishment of eco-friendly activities (UN women, 2014). Therefore, while there is still a high level of gender inequality, women act as half of the world’s resource managers, making their role crucial towards safeguarding the environment (Global Environment Facility, 2018). With clothing upcycling being the new trend for green fashion, there has been no concrete initiative promoting women’s active participation in upcycling practices, despite EU's endeavor towards environmental sustainability. Therefore, the need for VET trainers and textile professionals (manufacturers, designers, colorists, etc.) to engage in an open dialogue in order to support gender-based training towards buckling down environmental challenges through clothing upcycling activities constitutes a brand new initiative in alignment with EU goals for resource efficiency (Europe 2020 Strategy).Needs:Women are often impacted disproportionately by environmental challenges due to gender discrimination (Global Environment Activity, 2015). To demonstrate the significance of gender equality in environmental policies, the promotion of women’s participation in decision making processes should be established (European Institute for Gender Equality, 2020). On the other hand, waste management and recycling have become even more crucial especially within the context of the coronavirus crisis (European Commission, 2020). With women’s role being rapidly evolved in the recycling as well as waste management, the need to promote a gender-responsive environmental agenda becomes of utmost importance (Garcés-Sánchez et al., 2019). Provided that textile experts are considered essential stakeholders in the sustainability debate, they together with VET trainers can certainly promote a priceless prospect that policy makers might be unaware of. This prospect will become the main pillar of AR4ReClothing project under the prism of promoting environmental sustainability through the establishment of gender equality.<< Objectives >>In order to promote hands-on ecological actions that establish gender justice, the AR4ReClothing project recommends a training approach combining activity-based training addressing environmental challenges related to clothing upcycling through gender-based training methodology. The objective of the project is to engage textile professionals (manufacturers, converters, designers, stylists, fashion designers, textile industry students, etc.) to raise awareness about the environmental and social benefits of clothing upcycling through innovative training methods that better establish environmental sustainability utilizing the different role of women in eco-friendly activities. This will be facilitated with the support of a gamified learning approach through an Augmented Reality mobile application that will offer a long-lasting learning experience that can be established through skills retention activities.General objective:Raising awareness about the environmental and social benefits of clothing upcycling through innovative training methods that better establish environmental sustainability utilizing the different and yet significant role of women in ecological activities.Specific objectives:-Develop and test training material tailored to the real needs of the final beneficiaries in each partner country-Develop an AR mobile application that promotes clothing upcycling activities utilizing a gender-based methodology-Develop a solid certification and accreditation system for skills validation and recognition<< Implementation >>In pursuance of the above goals and to ensure that the initiative follows a list of shared European priorities, a series of specific activities aimed at promoting among textile experts a greener attitude that respects gender-equality principles will be organized and carried out: -The elaboration of a comparative report that justifies the 'as-is' situation in environmental practices implemented by participants and verifies the needs towards embracing a novel training methodology that promotes environmental activities and at the same time tackles gender disparity.- The configuration of a knowledge & competences framework thoroughly describing the learning outcomes of the training and define the professionals' profile.- The creation of a solid training methodology incorporating gender-based practices to promote environmental consciousness among textile specialists and in the long-run among other industries affected by the project target group.- The development and implementation of an inclusive training handbook tailored to textile professionals not only for raising awareness but also to provide guidance on how to implement the recommended activities and train others to embrace them as well.- The deployment of a hands-on interactive platform based on micro-e-learning principles and personal preferences training in order to engage participants into the learning process and stimulate further participation with a view to sustain the project results.- The design and development of a mobile application facilitated by Augmented libraries and storyboard allowing users to put their knowledge into action and retain their skills through a gamified approach.- The development and implementation of a unified certification and accreditation ecosystem for skills validation and recognition at a European level.- The creation of a framework (AR4ReClothing Club) that can facilitate the development of synergies of practice among project practitioners and stakeholders under the prism of influencing policy makers. In addition to the above activities, other tasks that will run in parallel with the development and implementation of the project results comprise:-Project Quality Plan, Sharing, Promotion, Validation and Use of the Project Results plans easing the wheels of the project horizontal activities with a view to establish its impact and long-term sustainability providing top quality results and engaging a wide network of end-users-Non-stop monitoring of the project horizontal and vertical activities in order to ensure the quality of the results, establish on-time/budget deliverables and keep participants engaged to the implementation process-The planning and efficient execution of Sharing & Promotion activities from the very beginning of the project implementation and after its completion involving participants, associate partners and key stakeholders to increase visibility and achieve a higher impact-The establishment of an agreement for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) to ensure the use of the project results after the funded period-The organization and execution of 6 raising-awareness multiplier events and of a final conference to promote the user of the project results.<< Results >>The project addresses innovative training tactics focusing on gender-based education in order to promote environmental activities related to clothing upcycling among textile professionals. To that end, the project methodology will exploit the benefits of a hands-on guide along with digital applications (interactive platform to freely access the guide and an AR application) to provide flexibility to the target group and supplying autonomy throughout the learning process. The main tangible results of the project that will be available upon its completion are:-An action-based guide for textile experts towards embracing gender-oriented training strategies in order to establish environmental sustainability pinpointing the importance of women's role in the field-An online platform acting as a complete training package for participants including motivational workflows that enhance learners' performance towards their engagement in the learning process-An Augmented Reality mobile application functioning as an assessment tool utilizing gamified learning techniques towards the retention of newly acquired knowledge and skills through the promotion of real-life scenarios-A certification and accreditation scheme for skills validation and recognitionOf course, those results will be accomplished through a series of activities to be delivered during the project implementation. Those comprise:-A comparative report of the current situation revealing the training needs of textile experts for environmental consciousness in order to identify the main pillars of the training materials-The definition of learning objectives and the elaboration of a common framework based on the needs of the project target group-The composition of a concrete training methodology to efficiently deliver training among participants including the definition of interactive learning objects, micro-e-learning techniques and gamified learning strategies-The development of a hands-on guide for textile professionals (stylists, manufacturers, designers, colorists, etc.) with also useful guidelines on how to adopt and train others upon the implementation of gender-based educational strategies to properly promote clothing upcycling-The configuration of an online environment that will include a full training curriculum for participants facilitated by interactive learning objects that will support the implementation of all aspects that promote environmental activities and in particular clothing upcycling while establishing the role of women in such activities-The design of an AR gamification schema and the development of an AR mobile app that supports the learning process and establishes knowledge retention towards lifelong learning-The elaboration of a strong network and the formulation of synergies through an online community for all the project practitioners-Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) agreements among all partners comprising succession patterns for all the exploitable results of the project towards its sustainability past its funding periodThe intangible results that will insure the project sustainability after its completion include:-Generating awareness about the current state of play regarding similar learning opportunities and initiatives within European countries-Promotion of innovative training methods for the adoption of gender-based education towards establishing the role of women in environmental sustainability along with the confrontation of gender inequality-Enhancement of ICT-enabled education and e-learning strategies within the context of embracing online learning due to pandemic confinement-Incorporation of open educational resources (OERs) and open software in the learning process facilitated by engaging online learning activities-Creation of a wide network of stakeholders providing the opportunity to open a dialogue among industry communities-Influencing policies related to environmental initiatives and gender equality across the EU
