Moreover, current construction and renovation practices are huge raw material consumers and highly waste producers. Despite the efforts, on an EU scale, renovation rates are far below the minimum required, now only reaching around 1% of the building stock per year. These drawbacks bring forward the impact of rising material extraction, shrunk global circularity from to 7.2% in 2023. To facilitate closing this performance and design-to-market gap in the built environment, DeCO2 aims to address the compelling need for advancing innovative technological applications and solutions on the built environment, focusing on building elements, materials, products, and technologies. The project also aims to set up solid and long-lasting partnerships within the legal and regulatory framework and other stakeholders addressing the whole value chain for socio-economic innovation, facilitating to close the performance and design-to-market gap, including for historical and cultural heritage buildings. A well-segmented audience targeting developers, policymakers, and the construction industry will ensure effective market penetration, as DeCO2 is projected as an aligned solution to the EU's sustainability aspirations. Collaborative engagement, showcasing tangible benefits and dedicated digital presence will embrace the entire building-life cycle and all the relevant stakeholders involved in each innovation action stage of renovation projects, materials, and techniques (targeting TRL 8) that contribute to space users overall health and wellbeing, comfort and inclusivity.

ACCOMPLISH will deliver a novel AI-based compliance and certification framework cross-cutting the regulatory/legal, environmental, cybersecurity and business/industry-specific compliance perspectives to modernise, automate and trace the compliance and certification processes with the help of open-source, well-defined and extensible compliance policy models while always ensuring a human-in-the-loop (HITL) approach explaining the compliance requirements and results, as well as proactively alerting about any potential risks/violations. Through the ACCOMPLISH Compliance Digital Passport, the previously static compliance and certification assessments will be transformed into up-to-date compliance proof that effectively promotes transparency and accountability for any interested stakeholder. ACCOMPLISH shall also deliver inherently-compliant data economy enablers for Data/AI operations, as reliable mechanisms to design, execute, and trace/observe the data and AI/ML pipelines, as well as to monitor/control their outputs (in terms of datasets, ML/DL models, analytics results). In order to demonstrate the actual innovation and added value that can be derived through the ACCOMPLISH advancements, the ACCOMPLISH results will be validated: I. Through their actual application to address real-life problems in four representative industries that are characterised by a varying maturity level of data/AI operations and compliance: (a) Energy, (b) Automotive, (c) Robotics & Manufacturing, and (d) Aviation; II. Through their integration in different digital solutions, either open source or commercial, to showcase their application within the established data spaces and/or AI market landscape.

Decarbonizing industrial process heating through electrification and increased energy efficiency is a key measure for reaching the climate targets in 2030, reducing the dependency on fossil fuels, strengthening the exploitation of local renewable energy sources and increasing the competitiveness of the European industry. While there are highly efficient technologies, such as industrial heat pumps, available for temperatures below 150 °C, there is a clear demand for novel technologies for processes with heat demands at higher temperatures. EEETHOS will fill this technology gap by developing key-enabling technologies for energy efficient, flexible and decarbonized process heating, and demonstrating them in five installations at industrial end-users at a TRL of 7. The technologies comprise among others, two high-temperature heat pump solutions for steam supply at up to 200 °C, a reversed Brayton heat pump with supply temperatures up to 300 °C, an innovative technology for heat pump-based drying and heating of minerals, a highly integrated steam compression-based solution for superheated steam drying and a heat capturing device for radiative waste heat recovery. These key-enabling technologies will be demonstrated in 5 demonstrators at industrial end-users representing EUs energy intensive process industries: asphalt, ceramics, pulp & paper, bricks and steel. These technologies are scalable for plant-wide implementation, allow a complete decarbonization at energy savings between 43 % to 86 %, based on local renewable energy sources. The development, implementation, operation and scaling of these technologies is optimized by use of digital twin-based solutions. The project will be a cornerstone for enabling a decarbonized, efficient and competitive European industry, by developing and demonstrating key-enabling technologies at large scale.
