Passenger and freight transport must be addressed together so that policies, infrastructure (physical and digital), vehicles and energy sources serve both. These will be tackled in an integrated and coherent way in six urban nodes: from policy definition, to planning and implementation in the cities cooperating in MOVE21. The tested and integrated approach will then be disseminated across Europe. This integrated approach ensures that potential negative effects from applying zero emission solutions in one domain are not transferred to other domains, but are instead mitigated. It also ensures that European transport systems will become more resilient. Central to the integrated approach of MOVE21 are three Living Labs in Oslo, Gothenburg and Hamburg and three replicator cities: Munich, Bologna and Rome. In these, different types of mobility hubs and associated innovations are tested, and means to overcome barriers for clean and smart mobility are deployed. The Living Labs are based on an open innovation model with quadruple helix partners. The co-creation processes are supported by coherent policy measures and by increasing innovation capacity in city governments and local ecosystems. The proposed solutions will deliver new, close to market ready solutions that have been proven to work in different regulatory and governance settings. The Living Labs are designed to outlast MOVE21 by applying a self-sustaining partnership model that builds on already existing, strong partnerships for zero emission solutions. MOVE21 comprises 24 partners (six public authorities, two public transport companies owned by municipalities, six industry partners (two of which are SMEs), six research organisations and four network organisations) from seven different European countries.

However, most SMEs and SME support organisations consider the inability to manage innovation processes efficiently and effectively as one of the most important barriers to create European economic impact (competitiveness, growth and jobs) from innovation activities in SMEs. The objective of this project proposal is to address these problems by providing services enhancing the innovation management capacity of SMEs wishing to develop innovation projects with a strong European or international potential. All three partners active in this proposal are partners in Enterprise Europe Network under COSME (SweNet) to assure fully integrated services and a true one-stop-shop for business and innovation support to SMEs. Consequently, synergies with COSME activities are easily identified. All innovation experts will also have a role as both KAM and EIMC providers and synergies will be handled effectively. Each client specific needs will be prioritised during the client journey ensuring that we will make the best use of our resources, including the local, national and EU ecosystem.

The objective of this project proposal is to address these problems by providing services enhancing the innovation management capacity of SMEs. Four partners in the Swedish Enterprise Europe Network (SweNet) took part in the 2014 pilot action IS/KAM where 25 Swedish SMEs were coached. The target for this project is to deliver 105 7-day service packages to two SME target groups: 1) SME beneficiaries of the SME Instrument in Horizon 2020 – to be supported by Key Account Managers (KAM), and 2) SMEs with significant innovation activities and a high potential for internationalisation – to be supported by innovation specialists (IS). The specific objectives related to the first target group of 42 SMEs are to identify weaknesses in their innovation capacities, to identify suitable business coaches for them, and to accompany them through Phase 2 of the SME instrument project. The specific objectives related for the second target group of 63 SMEs are to carry out diagnostic audits of selected SMEs, to set up action plans to address bottlenecks, and to implement the action plans. The partner IVF, Acreo, Centek and SP will cover all of Sweden (all three Nuts 1 regions). The coordinator, The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth will not be involved in any service activities. The tools to be used to assess the innovation management capacity will be IMP3rove and Innovation Health Check.

Demonstrator case studies have been selected among European regions – Gothenburg, (SE); Karlsruhe, Baden-Wurttember (Ge), Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna (IT), North West England (UK) and Vorarlberg and Syria, Austria. Those have set up renewable wood waste-based systems at different stages of the waste wood value chain including different wood waste source, pre-sorting, sorting, collection, recycling and wood waste treatment (to materials, biochemicals or biofuels) as well as the different gradings and regional wood waste composition in each country. 3 recipient regions were selected for this project in regards to their unused waste wood potential: Normandy (France), Lublin (Poland), Andalucia (Spain). The BioReg platform will function on two levels. On the EU level: best practices in terms of strategies and technologies as well as implementing mechanisms will be shared with the beneficiary recipient regions on the project and disseminated to many other potential regions in the EU (EUBIA). The platform will will encourage the collaboration of members and stakeholders on the European level. On the regional level: the best practices will be replicated in the three beneficiary regions. The proposal offers collaboration with regional existing clusters, constructive dialogue with regional authorities and policy makers, industrial and RTD establishments in the recipient regions. It will mobilize the recipient regions to develop the existing potential for industrial innovative projects and build bio-based ecosystems. Industries, regions and investors will be brought together to establish an efficient dialogue so that demand and supply can be aligned and large impact projects can be realized. The project proposes mechanisms to engage the stakeholders in collaboration also after the EU funding on BioReg is over.
