Landspítali provides practical training for most students in health care education and is a such an educational institution. The hospital works closely with universities and secondary schools to make the students' training effective and a positive experience for students and facilitators alike. Approximately 1700 students have their practical training at the hospital each year, from different schools and are at various levels in their education. Students from other European countries training at Landspitali are a growing number. All experienced professional staff have a role as facilitators for successful education. The purpose of the project is for students and staff at the University Hospital to experience successful learning and continuous development work, both to learn and facilitate others. Objectives of the project are for University Hospital employees have the opportunity to increase their knowledge about teaching role at the level of vocational training, train as facilitator in simulation training and actively participate in practice development. This way Landspitali's educational role will be promoted. It is important that participants have the opportunity to acquire ways to meet the needs for training in hospitals where hospitalized patients are fewer and weaker than before. Less traditional educational opportunities call for a different kind of teaching provided by the instructors. The project is focused on sending 19 participants, who are already facilitators at the hospital, abroad to acquire additional knowledge and experience in recognized educational institutions, participate as teaching assistants with experienced supervisors, learn about programs for newly graduated staff and participate in workshops of interdisciplinary groups focusing on practice development. The participants will visit in groups of two to four persons to job shadow experienced tutors, be assistants to facilitators or attend workshops or courses focused on specific learning methods. Participants are expected to return inspired in their role as facilitators, attend to their students and newly recruited better than before, be an impressive role model to other staff facilitators and have ideas of new pedagogical approaches. The participants are expected to take on new projects they have learned about during the visit and add to their CV. The educational role of Landspitali will hopefully be more visible and recognized. Students and staff will be enthusiastic in their vocational training at the hospital under the guidance of instructors who are capable and satisfied at their work. Newly graduated among the staff will receive additional support in their future work.

The project is an integrated part of the EUC Syd internationalization strategy whose primary objectives are based on the EU s great ideas on freedom of movement so that participants in mobilities get a realization of the European labor market as their future labor market and not only the national labor market. Mobilities will give participants an opportunity to develop their personal and professional skills and allow them to become more aware of other cultures and their impact on a unified Europe and yet very different Europe.EUC Syd focuses on being able to provide participants with international experience , professional and personal challenge and the opportunity to further the common, cultural and language skills in an authentic environment . The needs that are met through the project is both EUC Syd strategic objectives , but equally pupils often very specific desire to have the opportunity to take part of their education abroad, and teachers desire to acquire new knowledge in an international context. The target group of the project , 81 participants, VET and HTX teachers at EUC Syd and basic and main courses students and SKP students at EUC Syd .The project is expected to run over a 2 - year period, starting in August 2014 and allow participants to stay both at VET-schools and in companies in Europe .

Qualified biomarkers help to optimize drug development and patient safety, yet for the regulatory acceptance of safety biomarkers substantial sample sizes are needed to ensure adequate case and control numbers, and robust evidence sufficient for qualification. To address this challenge, a consortium of leading European research institutions and SMEs has been established. The consortium will generate exploratory and confirmatory data enabling regulatory qualification of new safety biomarkers for application in drug development; establish robust datasets on the DILI, DIKI, DIPI, DIVI and DINI biomarkers to enhance diagnosis of disease; develop and validate assays for new safety biomarkers; implement profiles of circulating miRNAs as tissue and mechanism specific diagnostic tool; have key safety biomarkers accepted as qualified drug development tools by EMA, FDA, and PMDA. Given the significant expertise available across the consortium, the group will be able to tackle the key challenges related to successful biomarker qualification. A key driving principle of the consortium is cross-linking via existing networks of top profile research institutions, as well as capitalizing on existing data and resources. The Consortium is embedded into a network of international research collaborations such as the Pro-Euro-DILI-registry, TransQST, eTRANSAFE, the i2b2 tranSMART Foundation, the CIOMS DILI working group, EPoS, LITMUS, and BBMRI. To optimize regulatory interaction, we intend to continue our successful collaboration with non-European consortia such as PSTC, the FNIH Biomarkers Consortium, and US DILIN. A key expected result of the consortium will be a “Safety Biomarker Factory”, regularly qualifying new markers, with an associated “Safety Biomarker Warehouse”, providing to the scientific community, industry, and patients detailed data and information, and knowledge across a large spectrum of advanced safety biomarkers.
