"<< Background >>Beach handball is a growing sport where players and coaches are also tournament organizers and volunteers. Due to the high demands of the tournaments and the many tasks involved, there is a great need for specialized volunteers, separated from sport staff.<< Objectives >>The main objective of this project was to improve the volunteer policy and increase volunteer satisfaction at beach handball tournaments in such a way that would simultaneously develop our current volunteers, increase the number of new volunteers, and extend the duration of volunteering for both. It was important to find the greatest motivation for volunteers and develop a strategy to gather beach handball tournament organizers and volunteers in one place.<< Implementation >>Eight live meetings were held where partners discussed how to improve (create) the volunteer system in beach handball. Some of the meetings took place during tournaments, which helped partners see the situation ""on the field."" The partners conducted a survey and received valuable results, both from them and from the volunteers through informal conversations. A volunteer application website was set up (beachvolunteers.com), where the results of the project can also be found.<< Results >>Survey distributed among volunteers revealed that the greatest motivation for all of them to return was appreciation and usefulness. Before volunteering began, different goals were set for different age groups by themselves - younger volunteers mainly want to make new friends and gain experience that could be useful to them, while people over 30 volunteer because they can do something for a cause they care about. Those information will help organizers to to improve the quality of their event."

The overall objectives of the project are awarenes-raising about sport in higher education, opening university sport to the general population, with emphasis on inclusion and equal opportunities. A particular focus will be the preparation and implementation of European Universities Games 2018 and the inclusion of women, disabled people and people from disadvantaged backgrounds. We find that university sport in Slovenia and other European countries at present unfortunately still does not take sufficient account of the diversity of its users and does not do enough to encourage their active participation. Through participation in the project, EVS volunteers will assist in achieving greater organizational capacity of organizations working in the field of university sport, opening and diversifying recreational and competitive sports activities among students, finding good practices taking into account cultural, socio-economic and other characteristics. The project foresees the 8-month mobility and participation of two volunteers, a man and a woman from different countries. One volunteer will work more in the field of communications and education, while the other in the organization and development of sports programs and activities associated with them, on inclusion of wider spectrum of participants, especially female and people with disabilities. During the project volunteers will learn about the structure of university sport on a local level and in a broader European context and actively participated in the planning, organization and execution of several events; especially: - Seminar for European university organizations in Ljubljana; - EUSA General Assembly and Gala in Madrid; - European Universities Games in Coimbra; - smaller events by local partners in Ljubljana and other places in Slovenia. The project aims to open university sport and increase the number of participants from disadvantaged backgrounds, women and people with disabilities. The effect will be visible through the promotion activities as well as statistics of the participants at the events, particularly at the European Universities Games.

For the additional value, some of meetings will take place during national and regional university sport competitions - participants will be able to learn not only through the theoretical exchange of practice but also practical one. First phase of the project will revolve around meetings and discussion over particular topics. The outcomes of those meetings will be put together and will create the final product of the project - a guidebook. Second phase of the Uni4S project in 2022 will be dedicated to evaluation of the guidebook, gathering feedback through a series of various activities and finalizing the ultimate version of the guidebook. That material will be translated into Dutch and Polish language. This way, the impact of the project is expected not only to concern directly the participants but also local university sport clubs in the Netherlands and Poland, where the results will be shared. The project does not hold down to its timeframes. Its outcomes aim to be used after 2022 and be a gold standard for organizing university sport tournaments.
