Recent global movements indicate a rapidly growing awareness and eagerness of the European youth to actively engage with securing a sustainable future for all. Even though the need for a holistic, interdisciplinary and cross-sector approach to sustainability has been increasingly recognised on research and policy levels, the trickle-down to higher education has been slow. Active8-Planet builds a knowledge alliance jointly developing, implementing and assessing the impact of a new Active8-Planet learning model based on 4 principles of planet-centred development: (1) Interdisciplinary & Intergenerational Co-creation, (2) People-centred Design, (3) University-Business Collaboration, (4) Environmental Ambition and Action. In “7+1 Team Projects”, students, teachers/researchers, and company professionals will be applying and refining the collaborative approach to co-create practice-based interventions in the areas of sustainable mobility, circularity in built environment, and health & wellbeing. Bridging between sectors, disciplines and generations, the project will provide a platform for transforming the isolated and discipline-specific knowledge into collaborative climate and sustainability actions. As a result of learning activities, the project will raise the first cohorts of dedicated, risk-taking young individuals (the “Planeteers”) becoming ambassadors of the Active8-Planet principles and active co-creators of their sustainable future. By adopting a robust and elaborate dissemination and exploitation strategy, the impact of the project’s activities, results and partnership will be sustained beyond its lifetime, in particular by: institutionalising the learning model in existing courses using ECTS system; developing an agenda to cultivate new 7+1 Team Projects; and transferring the collaborative approach into research, development, and innovation projects.

Lack of active citizenship, fragile democracies, outdated educational systems, religious agendas and high youth unemployment rates are some of the main concerns in MENA region. Young people are left on the margins of the job market, often lacking the employability skills, facing gaps in terms of usage of innovation and technology and not rarely being part of political and religious agendas. Although the social entrepreneurship (SE) has become a “mantra” for solving these issues in the MENA region after the Arab Spring, simple analyses of the local realities show lack of social entrepreneurship infrastructure as well as lack of sustainability of the social businesses. The lack of sustainability, does not only refer to the lack of resources for sustaining the business, but also to the format in which the SE is being practiced and how it is positioned in the socio-economic system. We believe that using innovation and digital learning are the main assets to maximize the potentials of SE and to provide tools that can contribute to its sustainability.Social innovation as such should not be only perceived from the perspective of newly born startups, but should be seen as an opportunity for further growth and development of already successfully operating businesses, even more for capacity-building of impact-making CSOs operating in the regions. In addition, the digital learning serves to provide exploitation of the social innovation through usage of newest technologies and to guarantee its durability and expansion over time. Therefore, through SOciaL Innovation and Digital learning Platform (SOLID project) we would like to empower youngsters and youth organizations to exploit innovation and technologies for social impact, thereby, making their mission durable and sustainable. SOLID will be a unique opportunity for exchange of know-how, replicating good practices, networking and capacity enhancement in intercultural communication and intercontinental project management. The project activities will be expand over 15 months and will include: kick-off meeting, methodology workshop and pinpointing and research on social innovators, social innovation voyage to Tunisia, training course: Digital Tools for Social Innovation Sustainability, Local promotional events: Go Digital! Advancing and Inspiring Social Innovation in Community as well as online evaluation meeting. Through the project we will create a network and community of min. 50 innovators, they will be pinpointed on a map in Europe and MENA and will be presented using unique youth friendly narrative. In addition, we will develop a brochure on digital tools for social innovation in MENA and Europe. We expect at least 2000 youth from participating countries will have their awareness raised on social innovation and/or will get empowered to start own initiatives through the project activities, the platform and/or the brochure on digital tools for social innovation.

The Capacity Building Project mYouth 2.0 (Mobile, Young, Opportunities, Unity, Technology and Help) was build upon the results, network and experience gained from the first edition of mYouth implemented in 2016, where more than 200 young people were directly engaged and empowered, and 10 mobile apps were developed and participated at the European Youth Award and the World Youth Summit Award as internationally recognized competitions in the field of digital technologies. The new edition of mYouth 2.0 project mainly focused on providing new entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to young people already in the field of new technologies about the potential of mobile apps to become small business and start-ups, as well as the importance of social entrepreneurship as a solution to solve complex societal issues and a way to increase their employability and self-employability of young people. Additionally, the project offered opportunities to participants to enhance their digital and coding skills in line with the EU’s Europe 2020 Growth Strategy and the EU Youth Policy Cooperation as “skills of the future”, but also as continuation of the main priorities of the first mYouth edition and Mladiinfo International. The mYouth 2.0 included 13 partner organizations from 13 countries on three continents from the regions of East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), Western Africa (Senegal and Ghana), Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Singapore and Philippines), East Asia (Hong Kong), and Europe (Germany, North Macedonia, Austria, Poland, and Romania). The larger and more experienced network, opened the doors for new learning possibilities of youth in the partner countries and beyond, yet also helped in building new partnerships, exchange know-how and practices, and new learning ideas in the field of coding, digital skills, social entrepreneurship and e-Learning. The mYouth 2.0 project expended beyond the achievements of the first edition and introduced several novelties and practices which enriched the intercontinental learning and educational experience of the participants and partner organizations. The project integrated new learning models in mobile app development having more structured and professional guidance and increased the capacities of more than 300 direct participants in new mobile technologies, through more than 30 national events, continental and intercontinental programmes such as online courses, professional business training, online mentoring, hackathons, mobile app camps, pitching practices, boot camps, OER etc. During the project, more than 150 mobile applications were upgraded/developed, mostly available online and 12 teams mentored and trained on business development for tech entrepreneurs. Additionally, the project offered an experienced international network of organizations and professionals from Europe, Asia and Africa, and contributed to the creation of transnational youth initiatives which through development of mobile apps will help to solve local and community problems, and in the same time will create products that will be market oriented and business sustainable.

95 percent of the global population is living in an area covered by at least a basic 2G mobile-cellular network. Mobile learning is the front-runner of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, based on the digital and connected economy, linked products and services are being further advanced using the benefits of the internet of things (IoT), robotics, automatization and artificial intelligence (AI). Consequently, the World Economic Forum predicts that the greatest job growth will be concentrated in industries such as engineering, programming and finance. Yet not only the ICT skills will be enough to find the dream job, the half full glass should be filled in with the so-called job skills of the future, counting communication, empathy, social intelligence and creativity. The community resilience has never been more depended on the technology than it is now.The Europe 2020 strategy acknowledges that a fundamental transformation of education and training is needed to address the new skills and competences for Europe to remain competitive and open to new opportunities . The new EU Youth Strategy recognizes the potential of youth and awards this generation of youngsters as the best educated ever and among the most creative in using ICT and social media. Thus, the European Commission through the Digital Education Action Plan identifies the development of relevant digital skills and competences for the digital transformation as its priority. Therefore, youth organizations should play a pivotal role in educating and training young citizens for the digital living. “mPreneur: Youth Mobile Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Future” stimulates capacity-building of youth and youth CSOs for usage of apps coding and ICT as vital skills for youth employability as well as for strengthening community resilience, developing innovative mobile solutions to the persisting community challenges. Social mobile entrepreneurship is recognized as a special concept uniting the purpose-driven component of the businesses and the mobile technology used. mPreneur does not only stimulates skills sharing among youngsters, but strengthens the quality of youth work by building CSOs capacities for digital learning and usage of ICT for youth empowerment and employability, while gamifying the process through mobile app business competitions. Wrapping up the achievements from the previous CBY projects mYouth where we impacted lives of more than 100,000 youth globally (only during mYouth 2.0. we have organized: 32 events on 3 continents and developed 150 mobile apps), this edition is devoted to the sustainability behind the process, intergrating it into the youth work practices, assuring durability both of the mobile apps developed, but also strategically embedding use of technology for good in the program development of the organizations.
