In this project we'll host 10 volunteers from Romania, Spain, Austria, Italy and Luxemburg and send one volunteer from Finland to Slovenia. With this project we want to bring young people from different countries and cultures to work with children and young people in our area. In small towns and rural areas the inhabitants do not have many possibilities for intercultural dialoque and to gain international contacts, so trough the voluntary worker they can get these experiences in their own living environment. We hope that this way multuiculturality would become a natural part of children and young peopels everyday life. The volunteers are young people aged 18-30 who are intrested to gain new experiences and skills trough voluntary work. When choosing the volunteers, we favor volunteers who does not have so many possibilities to participate in international programmes for en example because of unemployment, lack of language skills, or they suffer from financial or social problems. This project responds to the priorities of Erasmus+ programme since we work with young people with fewer opportunities to offer them chances to participate in international activities and self-development. We encourage young people for active citizenship and to take responsibility for themselves, people nearby and the nature. EVS is a good tool to support young people to become independent, to help them to develop their skills and to broaden their picture of the world as well to help to understand and respect different cultures. We want to make multiculturality a natural part of peoples everyday life."

Apart from that the volunteers learnt how NGOs work, how to organize various events and cooperate in the international team. During project we wanted to show different forms of voluntary service office work at NGO, working with children and youth, etc. During the project we used the methods, which activated the participants (eg. workshops, meetings, treasure hunts, etc.). The main objectives of the organisation can be put into three very distinctive groups:The first area is personality development. A very good example of such a program is The Gombaszög summer camp´s program, where we offer presentations by well-known presenters, small group activities, outdoor activities, labyrinth meditation, individual counselling and psychodrama workshops. EVS volunteers had a chance to be part of this program, which offers one of the most colourful experiences in Slovakia. The second area is organization and community development. A good example of such activities is our long cooperation with Diákhálózat (Student network), where the main aim of our cooperation is developing in the following topics: leadership coaching, strategic planning, project management, future planning and team building. As part of this cooperation we have organized a training ont he topic of project management and community building, where EVS volunteers have participated as participants, so they could use the new know-how once they arrive home. The third area is career guidance and counselling. In this area we offer individual counselling, group activities and future planning trainings for high school students, career planning seminar for university students. One of our innovative programmes in this area is our whole day festival-like career guidance program, called Mesterségem CíMERRE. This program won the award for the best service in the area of career guidance competition „National price for career guidance 2013“ which is organised by Euroguidance Slovakia. Members of the organisation TANDEM n.o. presented the programme also in Prague and on international conference in Zagreb. During the EVS project period one of these programmes was organised, where EVS volunteers have participated as a key part of the trainer team. The objectives of the project were:* Contributing to the learning experience of young people through direct participation in various youth-related programmes in this part of Europe, with different levels of involvement from the side of volunteers. See previously mentioned programmes.* Giving the opportunity for young people for understanding the special situations and relations within a multicultural community through the interaction of the Slovak majority and the Hungarian minority from Komárno. This was partially fulfilled as in Komarno it is easier to meet the Hungarian minority. However, thanks to TANDEM’s projects which are located all over Slovakia, participants could be part of the Slovak majorities life. This helped them gain awareness related to the European multicultural context.*Promoting volunteering, the European Voluntary Service, Youthpass and the local and national initiatives of the recognition of volunteering as working experience. This was fulfilled through a complex EVS workshop at the Gombaszog summer camp, where some of our previous EVS volunteers as well as current volunteers have taken part and told stories about their EVS experience.HOW WE WORKED: We involved our volunteers in the activities mentioned in the first part. This was decided upon their arrival, when we set up an individual learning plan, where each of the volunteers could choose their own project elements according to their development goals. This was then followed-up by a supervisory and mentoring system, where senior trainers, and senior project coordinators of our organization have guided the EVS volunteers in their work. Thanks to TANDEM’s wide range of target group, our volunteers had the opportunity to interact with a variety of people, who they got to know and care for for different reasons, thus enabling them to develop not just friendships, but their own communicational skills. Furthermore, they had the opportunity to gain skills and competences in seven key categories defined by Youthpass.IMPACTTANDEM continued in its work to make EVS more familiar within the youth sector from our city in order to facilitate the access of European volunteers to Komárno and its close region. Our project was an instrument for promoting this European volunteering mechanism.EUROPEAN INTEGRATION: through this project we contributed to the European integration processes of Slovakia and Komárno. Through the dissemination of this project we got into contact with a wider range of young people, who are interested in volunteering, and with other organizations from our region who already have accreditation for hosting and sending volunteers.
